Chapter 602 - 601- The problem and the solution
"Are you feeling any better now?" Sylvie asked as she and Olivia arrived at the infirmary after hearing about the spar. They both took a stool from nearby and sat before the bed.
The students were all talking about one of two things: the headmistress, who looked breathtaking this morning, or the damage Allen had inflicted on a certain senior during a spar.
Most regarded him as crazy for pushing things far enough to make Aries bleed.
"Not really," Allen replied. "It still feels strange."
His gaze remained fixed on his hand, the same hand that had wielded an ordinary sword he always uses. Yet what he had accomplished with it was anything but ordinary.
Olivia’s gentle voice broke through his thoughts.
"What exactly happened, Allen? You’re not someone who loses his temper during a simple spar. And it’s not as if your opponent was bullying you."
Aries might have a playful personality, but she never crossed the line. Olivia had watched their spars many times before and knew how much Allen respected her. For him to take such a drastic step made no sense.
"You two won’t believe me," Allen said, shaking his head as he lay back on the bed.
Using his arm, he covered his eyes and muttered, "Just leave me alone."
"Unfortunately, we can’t," Sylvie replied, while Olivia watched him with a worried expression.
The princess folded her arms and said, "You nearly killed someone today, Allen. I hope you understand the gravity of what that means."
Allen clenched his fist, his voice turning heavy.
"I am well aware, Sylvie. And I’m prepared to accept whatever punishment I deserve."
"Allen..." Olivia called softly, concern evident in her voice.
Unlike her, Sylvie’s frustration was beginning to show.
"Stop acting like a weakling and tell us what happened. I know you feel guilty, but we’ve known you long enough to know you wouldn’t hurt her on purpose."
The tension in Allen’s hand gradually eased.
He pressed his lips together for a moment before letting out a long breath.
Slowly, he sat up and faced the two girls. Well, not quite. His gaze remained fixed on the floor.
Gripping the edge of the blanket weakly, he said, "Someone led me to do it."
He paused before continuing.
"I know it sounds ridiculous, but at that moment, when Senior Aries was about to deliver the final blow, I saw someone. It was like a memory... a memory of a man with long black hair swinging his sword beneath the moon."
His voice grew distant, as though he were reliving that moment... and admiring it.
"I can’t explain the sensation. It was like watching an artist create the masterpiece of a lifetime. Every movement was flawless, every swing beautiful. I couldn’t stop myself from following his steps."
Confusion appeared on his face.
"And when I moved... I became that man. I wasn’t watching him anymore. I was inside his body, seeing through his eyes. It felt as if I had taken control of him... or maybe I had given control to him."
Sylvie frowned at his words, while Olivia stared at him with a mixture of concern and confusion.
Allen let out another weary sigh, his shoulders slumping.
"And when I came back to my senses... Senior Aries was lying there in a pool of her own blood."
Silence filled the room.
What Allen had described was anything but normal.
No wonder he thought they wouldn’t believe him.
Had he told anyone else, they would have dismissed him as a lunatic or accused him of inventing excuses to justify his actions.
But Sylvie and Olivia were different.
They had known Allen long enough to understand the kind of person he was. He wasn’t impulsive. He wasn’t the type to attack someone without reason, especially not a person he deeply respected.
"Allen... what you told us may not make sense to the administration or to Senior Aries’s parents." Sylvie chose practicality over emotion.
Right now, the most important thing was the explanation he would have to give soon.
Aries herself might hear the full story and choose not to make an issue out of it. But what about her parents? What about the Headmistress?
"They’ll see it as an excuse."
"Sylvie!" Olivia’s eyes widened. She didn’t want her friend to put it so bluntly and further crush Allen’s spirit.
But Sylvie remained firm.
"I trust him, Olivia. Just as much as you do. But other people won’t. Allen is at a critical stage in his life, and you know what could happen if he gets suspended for a term."
Olivia fell silent, her heart sinking.
While she had been focused on comforting Allen, Sylvie was already thinking about the consequences waiting for him beyond this room.
"Don’t I deserve it, though?" Allen asked quietly, his head lowered.
Sylvie clicked her tongue and rose from her seat.
"There you go again with that self-deprecating nonsense."
Olivia gripped the edge of her skirt and quickly spoke up.
"No, wait. Please don’t leave. I’m not smart enough to help him with this. Only you can, Sylvie."
Then she turned toward Allen.
"And Allen, please don’t blame yourself for something you never intended to do. If you convince yourself you’re a criminal, no one will be able to help you."
Allen pressed his lips together and remained silent.
The truth was, he still hadn’t gathered the courage to check on Aries.
The nurse had informed him earlier that she would recover soon, but even then...
The guilt and fear weighing on his chest were too much.
Sylvie stared down at him before asking, "Do you actually want to know whether you’re truly responsible for what happened? And if you’re not, do you want to know how to protect yourself from the consequences?"
Allen flinched and looked up.
"Can someone really tell me that?"
Sylvie nodded.
"We both know someone who always seems to have an answer for everything. Just as I trust him, you should trust him too. Tell him everything that happened."
Realization flashed across Allen’s face.
"But he’s always busy these days... would he even have time to listen to my problems?"
Sylvie let out a sigh.
"He’ll find out about this eventually anyway. So why not try your luck? Wait for him at one of the places he regularly visits."
Allen fell silent.
Yes... that might actually work.
Olivia glanced between the two of them, confusion evident on her face.
"Who are you two talking about?"
Sylvie rolled her eyes.
The person who should have recognized him first was somehow the last to figure it out. Even Allen had already understood who she meant.
Crossing her arms, she turned toward him.
"I have a feeling only Professor Adrian can solve your problem now."
Allen leaned his head back and stared at the ceiling.
Could Professor Adrian really figure out what was wrong with him and help find him a solution?
