Raising Legends in Roger's Shadow

Chapter 356: “Does Someone Want My Attention?”

Chapter 356: “Does Someone Want My Attention?”

Just as Rift had predicted, after a brief standoff and mutual staring, the atmosphere in the field suddenly changed. The foolish grin on Joy Boy's face gradually faded, replaced by something far more free and unrestrained.

Ah ha. Does someone want my attention?

White steam began to rise faintly from his body. His hair lifted upward like burning flames, turning completely white. Even his clothes seemed to be affected, shifting into a strange, cloud-like white texture.

His smile stretched wider than ever, his eyes curved into crescents. His entire presence became light, erratic, yet overflowing with an unimaginable vitality.

"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

No particular reason. Just laughing. I originally wanted to tone this down a bit, but when I saw my nephew getting completely hyped while reading this part, I figured maybe I'm just getting old.

"Nika…"

Rift murmured softly. A rare hint of seriousness flashed in his crimson eyes, along with a look that said, as expected.

You've only been out at sea for less than a year and you already have this level of strength. What are your peers supposed to do?

It's like everyone going on a journey, and you show up with a Gyarados. Level 20 and still calling it a baby.

Meanwhile, Gals on the other side finally stopped holding back.

A sharp eagle cry rang out. Black obsidian feathers instantly spread across his arms, his fingers transforming into razor-sharp talons. His pupils narrowed into the cold vertical eyes of a predator.

Even more shocking, a powerful and overwhelming force erupted from him, carrying a strict sense of justice and absolute conquest. Dark crimson Haki wrapped around his half-transformed body, standing in direct opposition to Joy Boy's liberated and joyful will.

Conqueror's Haki, coating.

I'm not even sure if this is officially a thing, so just treat it as layered Haki armor. If it exists later, then it exists. If not, consider it author laziness in naming things.

"HAHAHAHA! Here it comes! This is it!" Joy Boy laughed freely in his Nika form. His voice was airy, almost dreamlike, yet carried a strange, infectious power.

"Hmph." Gals snorted, his battle intent fully ignited.

In the next instant, both of them moved.

No ships were needed. Their figures vanished from the sea surface and reappeared high above the clouds, colliding violently in midair.

"Rubber Rubber, Giant God Spear!"

In Nika form, Joy Boy's attacks became even more surreal. A massive white rubber fist ignored distance itself, crashing down on Gals with a rhythm of laughter and overwhelming destructive force.

If you looked closely, even the sea below seemed to react to his ability. This was the true power of a Devil Fruit that had never been recorded in any official Devil Fruit encyclopedia.

"Black Hawk, Sky Rending Claw!"

Gals responded with sharp precision. His claw attacks, wrapped in Conqueror's Haki, tore through the air like blades that could split the sky itself, meeting the giant rubber fist head on.

BOOM. BOOM. BOOM.

Explosions of impact echoed like thunder across the sky. Each collision sent shockwaves rippling outward, violently compressing the ocean below.

The sea boiled.

Massive whirlpools formed out of nowhere. Towering waves stacked upon each other like a rising apocalypse. This is what happens when true monsters fight.

The two ships below were like leaves in a storm, about to be swallowed entirely.

Rift sighed.

Then his blood mist erupted.

"Move closer! Move closer!" a Marine officer shouted from the warship.

Almost instinctively, both sides shifted.

Thick crimson mist spread rapidly, forming two enormous protective barriers that wrapped around both the rubber ship and the Marine vessel. Outside, the ocean raged like the end of the world, but inside the mist, everything was perfectly still. Even the water in a cup did not tremble.

The Marines seemed completely used to this by now. Some of them even looked relieved.

"Now! Send it over!" a Marine commander ordered.

Several soldiers quickly carried large food containers across a wooden plank bridging the two ships. Inside were freshly grilled meat, fish, and fruit.

"Thanks," Rift said casually, waving a hand.

"It's our duty, Mr. Rift," the soldiers replied respectfully before retreating quickly. No matter how many times they saw the battle outside, it never stopped being terrifying.

This whole "meal delivery during a world-ending fight" tradition started back when Gals and Joy Boy fought for the first time. The Marines originally refused to enter the mist out of pride, even when their ship was about to capsize. In the end, Gals himself kicked Joy Boy's ship into the mist and calmly said, "Protect my side too, thanks."

Since then, it just became… normal.

Strangely enough, all of this worked because pirates at this stage were still relatively new. Joy Boy's crew and Rift's group were more like wandering adventurers than true criminals. Even Gals, for all his seriousness, had a surprisingly relaxed attitude about them.

Back on the deck, the children stared at the food, then at the apocalyptic scene outside. Their faces were still pale, but they understood something important now.

This level of battle was not something they could understand, let alone interfere with.

"Alright, stop looking," Rift said. "That level of fight is not good for you to watch right now. It'll shake your resolve. Eat first."

The two kids nodded quickly and sat down obediently, though their hands were still slightly stiff as they ate.

The girl sat quietly beside them. She was not scared, just quietly keeping them company. She occasionally picked up fruit and ate slowly, her ice-blue eyes occasionally glancing at the sky outside the mist, silently analyzing the unimaginable clash of power.

Rift, meanwhile, chewed on roasted meat while watching the battle unfold through the blood mist, his crimson eyes shifting with thought.

Inside the mist, the smell of food lingered.

And everything remained calm.
