Chapter 43 Beautiful Legends of a Distant World
Chapter 43 Beautiful Legends of a Distant World
"I will take you out," Chu Sheng said earnestly.
Amber looked down at him, her fragrant breath gently lifting his bangs. The light in the blankets was dim, but her emerald-gold eyes shone brightly.
The atmosphere was ambiguous, and Chu Sheng regretted his words a little afterward.
Damn, that sounds just like something out of a movie.
Amber gently tapped his forehead with her fingertip.
"Don't say things like that," she said softly. "It sounds ominous."
"What's said can't be taken back." Chu Sheng stared at the silver ring on her wrist. "The key is in the third rattan cane on the right side of the bed, right?"
Amber's long ears twitched: "There are still people outside."
"I know." Chu Sheng slowly shrank back a little. "But she can't just stay pressed against the door eavesdropping forever, can she? That's so dedicated. Do elves even have labor laws?"
What is labor law?
"A beautiful legend from a distant world."
Amber was taken aback, not understanding.
Looking at the chain, Chu Sheng felt that if Ella wore it, she would probably chew the bedpost through on the very first day.
There was still no sound of footsteps leaving outside the door; the maid was still standing there.
Chu Sheng lay prone behind Amber, his body half-suspended in the air, his feet already subtly touching the ground. As soon as the maid left, he could begin his operation.
After a while, Amber suddenly raised her finger and wrote on the back of Chu Sheng's hand.
"wait."
Chu Sheng nodded. After a while, An Bowen continued writing.
"Walk."
Very light footsteps came from outside the door. But it wasn't leaving; instead, it was slowly walking around the outside of the palace.
Chu Sheng's heart immediately tightened. He had just entered through the window, and if the maid were to go around to the window now, she might discover some clues.
Amber seemed to have known this would happen, and continued writing on the back of his hand with her fingertips.
"Don't move."
The footsteps circled around to the windowsill and stopped.
Several ways to die after being captured flashed through Chu Sheng's mind in an instant.
The first type is being riddled with arrows by the elves and turned into a hedgehog.
The second scenario is that Estelle, with a smile, invites him to drink a sedative tea, and the next day he becomes a thriving ornamental plant in the royal court.
The third scenario is that Arthur rushes in to save them, and then they are all wiped out.
Just then, a shadow fell in through the window. Chu Sheng saw through Amber's long hair that the shadow stopped near the windowsill.
Chu Sheng felt a chill run down his spine as the maid was climbing onto the windowsill in an extremely bizarre posture!
Amber tensed up as well. This tension immediately pinned down Chu Sheng behind her.
Chu Sheng hissed in pain and gasped for breath, almost wanting to cut off his tail to save his life.
The shadow outside the window moved slightly, and a pale hand rested on the windowsill!
Upon seeing this, Amber coughed lightly, and the hand outside the window immediately withdrew.
Footsteps sounded again, quickly circling back to the doorway and stopping.
"Your Majesty," a maid's emotionless voice came from outside the door, "Should I come in?"
"No need!" Amber's voice carried a hint of anger. "I've already said that once."
"But your body..."
Do you want me to say it a second time?
There was a moment of silence outside the door, and this time the footsteps finally faded into the distance.
Chu Sheng held his breath for a minute before daring to whisper in Amber's ear, "Are you gone?"
Amber listened intently for a moment: "They've gone to the outer room."
"Outside?"
"The palace has three levels. This is the sleeping quarters, outside is the servants' hall, and outside that is the corridor. She is in the servants' hall."
"So you still haven't left?"
"At least she can't hear your voice now."
Chu Sheng glanced at the head of the bed, where a dozen thin vines hung down from the top of the bedposts, woven into something resembling a curtain. The third vine on the right was hidden at the very back, looking no different from ordinary vines.
"The third one," Ambermind reminded him, thinking he had forgotten.
Chu Sheng carefully moved out of the blanket. He had only moved a little when Amber's long hair slipped off his shoulder, the ends brushing against his neck, making him almost sneeze.
Hold back!
He slowly pulled Xiao Chusheng out from between the two full moons, supporting himself on the edge of the bed with his hands and hooking his toes on the ground, and slid out from behind Amber with difficulty.
Amber closed her eyes briefly, a faint blush rising to her cheeks.
After Chu Sheng stood by the bed, he immediately reached out and began counting the rattan: one, two, three. The third rattan felt a little harder than the others, and there was a very fine crack on its surface.
He gripped the seam with his fingernail and gently pried it outwards, but the vine didn't budge.
He tried a different angle and pried it open again, but it still wouldn't budge.
Chu Sheng's forehead was sweating. Could this thing be a fingerprint unlock?
Amber noticed his embarrassment and whispered, "Push it up."
Chu Sheng did as instructed, and the vine slid up a short distance, making a barely audible "click." The vine split open in the middle, revealing a silver-white key inside.
"Got it!"
He turned and walked back to the bedside. Amber raised her wrist slightly to make it easier for him to unlock the door.
Chu Sheng squatted down and inserted the key into the lock of the silver ring on his right hand. The moment the key went in, a line of silver runes appeared on the ring.
"Your Majesty, this thing is lighting up."
"Spin half a circle, stop, and wait for the runes to disappear."
As the key turned halfway through, a slight mechanical sound came from the lock ring, and Amber's fingers gripped the sheets tightly.
The runes were bright, and the silver chain tightened, almost breaking her wrist.
Chu Sheng muttered under his breath, "This lock even has anti-tamper features?"
"Don't stop." Amber said in a low voice, but her voice was still trembling slightly. "Stopping will hurt even more."
The rune lit up for three breaths, then the light went out. Chu Sheng turned the key again, and click! The silver ring on his right hand opened.
Amber's right hand finally slid out of the lock. Her wrist hung by the bedside, her fingertips trembling slightly, with a deep red mark around it.
With experience, the second silver ring was quickly opened as well.
Amber's hands were free, and she tried to sit up, supporting herself on the mattress, but the silver chains immediately started ringing.
The chain around her waist tightened, pulling her back onto the bed, and the silver chain around her ankles straightened as well.
Chu Sheng, unwilling to give up, compared the keys to the keyhole again, but finally frowned in frustration and asked, "Where are the other keys?"
Amber shook her head: "I don't know."
"you do not know?"
Amber exhaled softly, raised her right hand, and placed her palm on Chu Sheng's lower abdomen.
Chu Sheng instinctively shrank back: "Hey, what are you doing?"
"I'll cast an invisibility spell on you," Amber explained, both amused and exasperated by his behavior.
"You can cast spells?" Chu Sheng asked in surprise.
"As long as your hands can move, it's fine."
"Then why didn't you do it for yourself sooner?"
Amber looked at him like he was an idiot, and Chu Sheng immediately realized what was happening. Her waist and legs were locked; even if she became invisible, she couldn't escape.
Amber's palms were cool. When her fingertips touched Chu Sheng's skin, Chu Sheng immediately felt a cool, watery sensation envelop his entire body. He looked down at his hands; his fingers were gradually fading.
First his fingertips, then the back of his hands, then his cuffs, and finally even the clothes on his body faded away.
"Holy crap," Chu Sheng whispered, "this is even better than the amulets from the Gray Domain."
