Chapter 29 The Three Ninjas Gather
Chapter 29 The Three Ninjas Gather
Frontline of the Land of Rain, Konoha Headquarters, Medical Logistics Zone.
The moment his consciousness returned to his body, Nishikawa Tetsu felt a burning pain in his chest, a consequence of broken ribs and damaged internal organs.
He struggled to open his eyes and found himself lying on a makeshift cot, surrounded by the strong smell of disinfectant and the suppressed groans of wounded soldiers.
"...Nonsense! Absolutely nonsense!"
Outside the tent, an angry female voice pierced through the rain and clearly reached Nishikawa Tetsu's ears.
Immediately following was a cold, hoarse male voice, tinged with sarcasm:
"Tsunade is right, Jiraiya. For the sake of three brats, you launched a full-scale offensive without any preparation? Do you know how much pressure this put on the western and central fronts?"
Nishikawa Tetsuya's heart stirred.
This is... Tsunade and Orochimaru?
He endured the pain, turned his head slightly, and looked out through the gap in the tent flap.
In the dim camplight, three figures exuding powerful auras stood facing each other in the rain.
Jiraiya was soaked to the bone, his red coat covered in mud and gunpowder, looking extremely disheveled.
Opposite him stood Orochimaru with his arms crossed and a gloomy expression, and Tsunade with her hands on her hips and an angry face.
"That's not 'three little devils'."
Jiraiya's voice was weary, but unusually firm: "Those were my subordinates, the hope for Konoha's future. In that situation, if I hadn't created chaos to distract Hanzo, all three of them would have been dead."
"hope?"
Orochimaru sneered, a cold, rational glint in his golden snake eyes. "To save your so-called hope, you disrupted the entire battle plan. Do you know the consequences?"
Orochimaru pointed to the distant defensive line engulfed in flames:
"Because of your sudden attack, that old guy Hanzo has completely gone mad. His armory was bombed, his personal guard was wiped out, and now he's like a viper whose tail has been stepped on, launching a frenzied counterattack at any cost."
"Just now, our front-line positions were forced to retreat 25 kilometers, and the number of casualties is rising sharply."
Tsunade chimed in, her tone stern: "Jiraiya, you are the commander-in-chief of the Eastern Front, not a babysitter. You are completely disregarding the overall situation! If the defense line collapses, the deaths will not be as simple as just three people."
Inside the tent, Nishikawa Tetsu listened to the argument outside, but felt no guilt; instead, he remained calm.
This is game theory.
They traded the turmoil on the front lines and the casualties of ordinary ninjas for the future Fourth Hokage Minato Namikaze, the powerful Uchiha Fugaku who awakened the Mangekyou Sharingan, and incidentally, their own survival.
From a utilitarian perspective, Konoha actually profited from this deal, but they didn't know that Minato would become the future Hokage; that's another story.
"So what?"
Outside the tent, Jiraiya suddenly shouted, interrupting the two men's accusations.
"The bigger picture? If you can't even protect your own disciples, what are you talking about protecting the village?"
Jiraiya took a deep breath, lowered his voice, and his tone became unusually serious:
"They did it. Hanzo's armory was completely destroyed, and his supply lines were cut off. Hanzo's current frantic counterattack is just the last gasp. As long as we can hold out against this wave, Amegakure will collapse due to logistical exhaustion."
Upon hearing this, Orochimaru and Tsunade both fell silent for a moment.
Indeed, being able to blow up an armory right under Hanzo's nose and return alive is a feat that can offset some of his mistakes.
"And..." Jiraiya's voice lowered, carrying a hint of gravity that only the Sannin could understand, "That brat Fugaku... his eyes are messed up. If he dies there, or his body falls into Hanzo's hands, that would be a real disaster for Konoha."
"Eyes?" Orochimaru licked his lips, a hint of inquiry flashing in his eyes. "Uchiha? Interesting."
"Alright, enough with the nonsense."
Jiraiya seemed unwilling to elaborate. He turned around, looked at the tent where the three were, and softened his tone, adding a hint of pleading:
"Tsunade, please help. The three of them are seriously injured, especially Fugaku and Minato. Ordinary medical ninjas can't handle them; only you can save them."
Tsunade frowned, glanced at Jiraiya's pleading expression, and finally sighed.
"I really owe you one."
She tossed her long, golden hair and strode towards the tent. "Get out of the way! If they die, it'll be your fault!"
The curtain was suddenly flung open.
Before Nishikawa Tetsu could close his eyes and pretend to be asleep, he met Tsunade's gaze as she walked in.
The legendary ninja didn't seem to be in a good mood at the moment, but when she saw the penetrating wound on Nishikawa Tetsu's chest that was still bleeding, her professionalism instantly put her into action.
"Don't move around once you're awake."
Tsunade walked to the bedside, her hands glowing with emerald green chakra, and placed them on Nishikawa Tetsu's chest.
"Three broken ribs, a perforated lung, and excessive blood loss. You're incredibly lucky, kid, you haven't even gone into shock yet."
Warm chakra surged into his body, and the excruciating pain quickly subsided.
"Thank you, Lady Tsunade," Nishikawa Tetsu said weakly.
"Stop talking nonsense and save your energy."
While treating the patient, Tsunade glanced at the two beds next to her.
Minato was still unconscious, and the wound on his right shoulder was charred black.
Fugaku's eyes were covered with gauze, and even in his unconscious state, his brows were furrowed, clearly indicating that he was enduring immense pain.
"A lightning-style penetrating wound, and this is..."
Tsunade walked to Fugaku's bedside and reached out to remove the gauze to examine his eyes.
"Don't touch his eyes."
Jiraiya and Orochimaru also walked in.
Jiraiya quickly grabbed Tsunade's hand, shaking his head solemnly. "Treate the external injuries and poison first. We'll deal with the eye problem when we get back to the village."
Tsunade was a smart person and immediately understood what was going on.
She gave Fugaku a deep look, then withdrew her hand.
"Understood."
At that moment, Orochimaru, who had been standing silently at the back, suddenly walked to Nishikawa Tetsu's bedside.
Those golden, vertical pupils stared down at Nishikawa Tetsuya, as if examining a fine work of art.
"Is this the kid who came up with the idea of dust explosions and gas warfare?"
Orochimaru's voice was hoarse and magnetic, carrying a chilling undertone. "Jiraiya said you wanted to combine my ninjutsu with science? And you rejected his recommendation?"
Nishikawa Tetsuya's heart tightened.
Being targeted by this venomous snake is not a good thing.
"Cough cough... Lord Orochimaru, you flatter me." Nishikawa Tetsu said with a forced smile, "I'm just... a little afraid of death, so I think about things a bit more."
"Being afraid of death is a good thing."
Orochimaru's lips curled into a playful smile. "Only those who are afraid of death will desperately explore the true meaning of life. I'm becoming more and more interested in you."
Jiraiya shoved Orochimaru aside and stood in front of Nishikawa Tetsuya, saying, "Hey! Don't scare my men! Go, go, go! We need you to hold off Hanzo's pressure at the front!"
"snort."
Orochimaru snorted coldly, turned and walked out. "Jiraiya, this is what you owe us. As for that Uchiha brat, I advise you to keep a close eye on him."
Orochimaru left, and Tsunade, after stabilizing the injuries of the three, also rushed to the front line to treat the wounded.
Only Jiraiya and the three people lying on the bed remained in the tent.
Jiraiya moved a stool and sat in the middle, looking at his weak disciples, and sighed deeply.
"Teacher..." Nishikawa Tetsu looked at Jiraiya, whose face was full of exhaustion.
"Don't talk, just rest."
Jiraiya patted Nishikawa Tetsu on the shoulder.
"You don't need to worry about what's happening outside. Although Hanzo has gone mad, he's at his last gasp. Your mission is complete, and you've done it perfectly."
Jiraiya stared at the top of the tent, his gaze somewhat unfocused.
"After you've recovered a bit, go back to the village. The war here no longer requires you to risk your lives."
Nishikawa Tetsu closed his eyes, feeling the life force gradually returning to his body.
He knew that Jiraiya was in a hurry to send them back to the village not because the war was about to end, but because of Fugaku's eyes.
The Mangekyou Sharingan has appeared in the world.
The higher-ups in Konoha are definitely not sitting still. After all, the current leadership is made up of the group left behind by the Second Hokage. I can't say for sure about other things, but their fear of the Uchiha clan is definitely a legacy.
