Chapter 399 399:Worsening Situation

Evan's expression sharpened, his icy gaze piercing through the dimly lit room. His mind raced through the possibilities. "But this isn't over. If they want to arrest me," he said, his voice dripping with resolve, "It won't be easy."

Aurora nodded, her holographic figure straightening. [I'll prepare the countermeasures immediately.]

Evan's expression darkened further. "Let's rewrite the narrative, Aurora. This is far from the end."

Evan stood still in the dimly lit room, his thoughts racing as the echoes of the news reports haunted his mind. Aurora's holographic projection hovered beside him, her expression a mix of concern and determination. The weight of the accusations leveled against him was heavy, but his resolve remained unshaken.

"Aurora," Evan began, his voice cold and firm, "I want a full analysis of the current situation. I need to know where we stand and what it will take to turn this around."

Aurora nodded. [Understood, sir. Pulling up the latest intelligence now.]

The screens flickered back to life, displaying maps, intercepted communications, and news feeds. Aurora then began summarizing.

[The military forces of the USL and its allies have tightened their grip. They've set up surveillance networks and deployed specialized units to hunt you. Most of your known assets are under investigation or frozen. Companies tied to your name are being dismantled. Public opinion has turned fiercely against you, with protests erupting worldwide, denouncing VR technology. They've painted you as the architect of chaos—a threat to humanity.]

Evan's jaw tightened as he absorbed the information. "What about Daniel?"

Aurora hesitated. [They say that he is in hiding, but his movements are being tracked. The accusations against him are just as severe. They're portraying him as your shadow accomplice, saying that you are using his pharmaceutical ventures as a front for illegal activities.]

Evan's eyes narrowed, his voice colder. "And Walter?"

Aurora's projection shifted, displaying images of Walter's recent activities. [Walter is consolidating power, leveraging this situation to gain influence. He's been meeting with world leaders, rallying them under the guise of protecting global security. It seems a glimpse of Daniel's memories has given him the upper hand, and he's doing it masterfully.]

Evan slammed his fist onto the table, the force sending a jolt through the room. "That bastard," he muttered. "He has turned the world against us with lies and half-truths. What a way to seize power."

Aurora tilted her head. [Sir, anything you want to add to my countermeasure actions?]

The line disconnected, leaving Elyon to sit in contemplative silence. Walter turned his attention back to the monitors, his expression cold and calculating as he whispered to himself, "Evan may be a great mind, but even the brightest stars burn out."

_____

Meanwhile, at Walter's Headquarters

After ending the call Walter leaned back in his chair, a smug smile playing on his lips as he watched the chaos unfolding on numerous news channels. His team was tirelessly analyzing every possible move Evan could make.

"Sir," Adrian said, stepping into the room, "our surveillance indicates that Evan's forces are regrouping. He's moving his assets into the shadows."

Walter chuckled, shaking his head. "Of course he is. That's exactly what I'd expect from him. But it doesn't matter. We've already won the first battle. Now, we'll strike the final blow."

Adrian hesitated. "And if he retaliates?"

Walter's smile faded, replaced by a cold, calculating look. "Let him try. We've planned for every scenario. This time, there's no escape for him."

_____

Back at Evan's Base

Aurora's voice broke the silence and interrupted Evan's thoughts. [Sir, I've detected unusual activity near one of our hidden research facilities. It seems Walter's forces are moving in.]

Evan's expression darkened. "He's not wasting any time."

[What are your orders?] Aurora asked.

Evan straightened, his voice firm. "Prepare the defense systems. We'll give them a fight they won't forget. And Aurora," he added, turning to her, "deploy the Shadow Protocol. It's time we disappear into the shadows."

Aurora's digital eyes flickered with determination, mirroring Evan's resolve. [Understood. Activating Shadow Protocol now.]
