Before going to bed last night, Su Tong asked Xie Chengjing again, "Second Young Master Xie, do you really keep your word?"

Xie Chengjing first asked her, "If it doesn't count, what can you do about it?" Seeing that Su Tong's expression remained unchanged, but her eyes flickered slightly, he then said very firmly, "I swear on the peace of my deceased mother in the afterlife, it counts."

Su Tong was almost frozen in place by his earnest gaze. His eyes, devoid of their usual sharp and intimidating intensity, held a steely resolve that made anyone feel he was trustworthy. Su Tong realized then that Xie Chengjing's deceased mother must have been a very important person to him. And such a soldier, who loved animals and held his mother in the most important place in his heart, though seemingly cold and hard, was surely someone worthy of trust.

But then, what exactly is the reason he's been helping me all this time...?

Humans are naturally inclined to seek advantage and avoid harm. Su Tong subconsciously decided not to think about the problem any further and just decided to take it one step at a time. Thinking that it would be better to get up early the next day to prepare breakfast, she sent a text message to the nanny telling her not to come. However, when she got up and finished washing up, Xie Chengjing had already done his physical training and came back with Xie Er'er and Kongkong running behind him, wearing only a vest. Su Tong had no choice but to order takeout for the two of them to eat.

This was the first time she had seen Xie Chengjing in form-fitting clothes. He was already tall, and his muscles were smooth and well-defined, making him a physique comparable to a top male model. Although he didn't look muscular at all, he exuded a powerful beauty. At first glance, Su Tong found that the cold Xie Chengjing was actually quite masculine.

Breakfast had just been served when the doorbell rang. Looking through the security camera at the door, it was Wang Hai. Su Tong asked Xie Chengjing for permission and invited him in to have breakfast together.

When Wang Hai entered the living room and saw Xie Chengjing, the slight romantic feelings he had just developed for Su Tong were instantly frozen away by Xie Chengjing's icy face. Su Tong, on the other hand, smiled and quickly brought him bowls and chopsticks. The breakfast laid out on the table was just a simple breakfast of small steamed buns, pork rolls, and fried dough sticks, but it looked very appetizing. Su Tong even placed a cushion next to him and sat on the floor, eating while playing with Kongkong. However, under Xie Chengjing's icy gaze, which seemed to melt away the ice crystals that had frozen him, Wang Hai ate with great difficulty.

What sets Lin Lili's film apart from many other films depicting the difficult period from the early 20th century to the founding of the People's Republic of China is that the story's backdrop is not China struggling to find a way out, but rather a rapidly developing country, beginning to rise to the forefront of the world, and eagerly craving more land and resources. Against this backdrop, the film tells the story of a group of Chinese people, led by Fang Xinli (played by Lin Lili), who are concerned about the precarious state of China but are bound by reality and struggle with their lives.

The protagonist, Fang Xinli, immigrated to country A with his grandparents' generation. Both his parents were accomplished scientists, and he grew up immersed in the new ideas of country A. He was exceptionally talented from a young age, yet inevitably suffered discrimination and insults from white people. In his youth, he attended the most prestigious university in country A, engaging in scientific research. Following China's defeat in the First Sino-Japanese War, a series of upheavals occurred, turning China into a weak and vulnerable nation easily trampled upon. Fang Xinli, an outstanding young scientist played by Lin Zhen, the son of a Chinese businessman from country A played by An Jing, the daughter of a Chinese painter played by Lin Shanshan, and Chinese students studying abroad played by Zhang Feng and Qin Jing, all come together because of a shared goal.

Su Tong plays Li Roujia, a stunningly beautiful daughter of a former Qing dynasty official. At this time, her far-sighted family sends her to Country A to escape the chaos. Her beauty and breathtaking dance skills make her highly sought after by Country A's upper class, and she holds a significant position in Luocheng. Fang Xinli intends to invite her to contribute to the country's affairs, but despite her beautiful face, she is arrogant, disdainful, and only cares about her own pleasure. Even when Lin Xinli deliberately mentions her family left behind in our dynasty, he cannot sway her in the slightest. Her cold-heartedness, however, only strengthens the bond between the others.

This arrogant woman repeatedly came to their aid at crucial moments in their actions. However, this mysterious woman, whom no one understood, secluded herself at home and died in the third year after the founding of the Republic of China, upon receiving news of the deaths of her family members.

This character has a small role and dies young, yet she is absolutely captivating to any viewer. Her stunning beauty and resolute death have a significant impact on the thoughts and fates of all the important characters in the film, leading them from naivety to maturity and teaching them how to effectively support the domestic revolution in Country A. In his later years, after the founding of the People's Republic of China, the male protagonist is invited to return to China with his wife, played by Petty Bright, to attend the ceremony. He also brings back a small bottle of ashes taken from the ruins of Li Roujia's residence in Country A.

The characters in the film are all based in country A. They can only learn about their home country from news reports and other Chinese people who have come to country A. However, the Treaty of Shimonoseki, the Hundred Days' Reform, the Boxer Rebellion, the Eight-Nation Alliance invasion of China, and the Boxer Protocol brought them together out of concern for the country and its people. They believed that the Wuchang Uprising and the establishment of the Republic of China would save the country. Even though it was later declared that it had no effect on the weakened country, which dealt them a heavy blow, the tragic fate of Li Roujia and others made Fang Xinli pessimistic and sad, but it also gave the remaining Fang Xinli and others strength. They were able to care about and support their home country from World War I and World War II to the War of Resistance against Japan and the Chinese Civil War.

Throughout the story, although all the Chinese characters are busy and hardworking for our country, even the protagonist, Fang Xinli, is not the kind of traditional patriot who would give up everything for the Celestial Empire. They care about our country, but they were born and raised in country A. Their friends, partners, and even lovers are all from country A. These people from country A are not only not ferocious and terrifying, but live vividly and warmly around them and have real feelings for them. The story is pushed forward step by step by the wheels of history in such extreme contradictions, and finally comes to a conclusion.

Due to confidentiality regulations, Su Tong only received the part of the script that she was to act in. However, while watching others begin to portray the joys and sorrows of that story from the corner, and silently pondering the life of that woman, Su Tong could almost see how that woman was different from her, full of pride and spirit, yet ultimately unable to change anyone's fate.

The film was shot in China for some of the scenes with domestic actors, and then the rest of the film was shot and edited and had music composed in other countries. Most of Su Tong's scenes were shot in China.

Director Lin Lili considered that Su Tong was a newcomer, so for the first few days, he filmed scenes featuring Lin Zhen as the main character Fang Xinli, as well as An Jing, Lin Shanshan, Zhang Feng, Qin Jing, and others.

This new film, directed by Lin and requiring many domestic actors, has sparked fierce competition among celebrities for various roles as soon as news of its start of filming broke. The role of the female student studying abroad, Qin Jing, was originally auditioned for by another actress, Yao Xiao. However, Yao Xiao was recently embroiled in an affair scandal with a married male star in the industry and had to suspend all her acting work, so Qin Jing was cast instead.

In the past, she always appeared glamorous and alluring, but now, for this role, she sports a simple straight fringe and short haircut. When she appears on camera, she looks fresh, energetic, and vibrant. Off-camera, she is beautiful, straightforward, and gets along well with others. Previously, there were rumors in the crew that Qin Jing had schemed to ruin Yao Xiao in order to get the role, but now everyone thinks she is very suitable.

Su Tong already has two acquaintances in the crew: Lin Shanshan, an admirer of Xie Ershao, and Qin Jing, whom she didn't quite understand back in the city. Compared to Qin Jing, although Su Tong is usually all smiles, most of the actors and staff in the crew are polite but not close to her, as if they are deliberately keeping their distance from her. After Su Tong officially joined the crew, Wang Hai found two more assistants for her: one named Zhang Lin and the other Yang Huan, Yang Yue's cousin.

Lin Zhen plays Fang Xinli, the main character who appears throughout the film. During the few days that Su Tong observed and learned from him, she was almost learning from him. His acting skills are outstanding. He is clearly a person whose smile makes people feel beautiful and distant, but when he puts on a tailored suit from that era and wears glasses, he is like a completely different person. He transforms into Fang Xinli, who appears refined and gentle from afar but has a heart full of passion.

Once, Su Tong was sitting there reading the script by herself, quietly reciting her lines to simulate a scene. She was reading the scene where Fang Xinli met Li Roujia for the second time at Li Roujia's dance performance and tried to persuade Li Roujia to join them and work together for the future of our dynasty.

After Fang Xinli's impassioned and reasonable mobilization speech, Li Roujia, who had just come off the stage in her dance costume, coldly and disdainfully rejected him. Su Tong recited Li Roujia's lines: "Ha, my parents sent me to Country A only hoping that I would live a peaceful life. Now I live a rich and comfortable life with no worries about food or clothing. What do you mean by all this?"

As soon as she finished reading, Lin Zhen quietly walked over. Then Su Tong read Fang Xinli's lines from the script, her face showing the anger on her face as Li Roujia poured cold water on Fang Xinli's passionate enthusiasm. "Judging from your appearance and temperament, I thought you must be a loyal and righteous person worth befriending. We are both descendants of Yan and Huang. You are safe and sound, but not to mention the tens of millions of compatriots suffering in the country, you don't even care about your own parents and brothers? I am truly ashamed of you."

Su Tong was stunned for a moment before standing up. She was clearly half a head shorter than Lin Zhen and was usually gentle and didn't like to argue with others. But now she was acting exactly as the script described, looking down at him as if she were on a pedestal, and said, "This only shows that the famous Mr. Fang is nothing more than a superficial person who judges people by their appearance."

As soon as Su Tong finished reciting her lines, Lin Zhen chuckled softly, removed his glasses, and the air of Fang Xinli that had been hanging over him vanished instantly. He was once again the gentle and approachable award-winning actor Lin Zhen, praising, "Su Tong, you acted well." (166 Reading Network)
