Kazzir turned away and chuckled, he found what Rex and Iris asked, laughable.
Meeting someone in power has never been so simple.
A request to meet with Master Serevan, or Mistress Serevia needs to go through the proper path. It needs to go through multiple lower-ranking nobles to even reach the top—and even then, there's a chance that it would be declined if it's deemed unimportant.
Asking blatantly like this without a prior appointment and standing wouldn't work.
But in the next second, Kazzir was stunned.
He turned to look at Iris and then back to Rex, blinking his eyes multiple times in shock.
"Eh...? He's who now?" Kazzir blurted, his eyes rounding as he spoke.
Iris gestured to Rex and repeated, "He's Rex Silverstar, I'm sure you've heard of him"
Confirming that his ears were working properly, Kazzir sucked in a cold breath—a mixture of shock and disbelief cross his countenance. More importantly, recalling that he basically took Rex's elixir, a shiver ran down his spine.
Laughing awkwardly, Kazzir stood up from his seat, "Do you have proof for this claim?"
Upon hearing this, Rex's body steamed and transformed back into his Human form.
Only when he reverted back to this form, did Kazzir believe, his spine instantly became as upright as an arrow. Nobody on the continent was oblivious to who Rex Silverstar was, his name was legendary.
"Your Majesty," Kazzir immediately became formal. "an ambush like this is bad for business"
"I'm not ambushing anybody," Rex shook his head and crossed his arms. "as you might have known already—people in power are always busy. I happened to only have the time to make the acquaintance of your kingdom now"
Seeing that Iris was looking at him from the side, Rex stepped forward.
He offered his hand to Kazzir, palm facing upward.
It was a cultural custom amongst the Tabaxi race, a gesture of goodwill and peace.
Naturally, seeing Rex giving him a gesture eased the tension in the air a bit, and Kazzir could stand more comfortably, "I understand," He said, placing his hand above Rex's hand with the claws retracted. "there's no helping it with the current state of the world"
Pulling back his hand, Kazzir went around his desk and gestured towards the door.
"I'll guide you to them," He said, changing his behavior completely. "fortunately, both of them are here. I'm sure Master Serevan—and Mistress Serevia would be happy to see the Emperor visiting them"
Rex nodded and followed Kazzir outside.
Moments later, Rex and Iris walked along the street while Kazzir explained their structure.
Basically, the Zahara Consortium is built with the Saltura Bridge as the center.
Since they needed to protect both sides of the bridge, the kingdom was split into two parts, one being the main market that wheeled the kingdom's economy called the Green Edge and the other part was more focused on military and housing called the Golden Edge.
Due to this separation, there were separations of power.
Master Serevan governed the Green Edge while Mistress Serevia governed the Golden Edge.
However, at the moment, Mistess Serevia is on the Golden Edge to meet her brother.
Soon enough, Rex and Iris arrived at the edge of the Green Edge.
Barricading between them and the deep cliff where the Gravitational Rift was located was only an invisible barrier. It could only be seen when someone touched it—and immediately alerted the authorities.
From Kazzir, Rex learned that this barrier protected the Green Edge and also its sides.
About three miles long to either side of the Green Edge was covered by this.
Nobody would accidentally be pulled and fall along the length.
"What are we doing here?" Rex asked with his eyebrows raised.
He was through an underground door near the edge, entering quite a lavish chamber with a direct view of the abyssal depth—located beneath, the Saltura Bridge. Despite being a little bit suspicious, Kazzir shouldn't be trying anything funny.
He stepped on the edge and looked down.
Anyone who was afraid of height would have cold feet at the sight.
It was a drop that stretched on for miles into the crust of the earth—the end of it couldn't be seen even from up here, and coupled with the fact that the bottom of the cliff must be full of corpses made the sight even more terrifying.
Swish!
A cold chilling wind seeped through from the path.
It was a reminder that if the formation fails, death awaits anyone—perhaps even Rex.
Just then, the energy coalesced and became a cubic room.
Rex stepped on it with his right leg and found it was firm—exactly like stepping on land.
Seeing this, Kazzir also entered before Iris followed the last.
Like riding a horizontal elevator, the cubic room made entirely of energy began to move at a slow pace—slowly eating the distance, between one side of the cliff—and the other. Seeing this, Rex couldn't help but ask, "How long will this thing take us to the other side?"
"Around half an hour," Kazzir replied, enjoying the view.
Finding that it took quite some time, Rex glanced up at the Saltura Bridge.
On there, the other traders coming from the Golden Edge, to the Green Edge were crowding the bridge. Despite having to walk on an actual bridge, they were moving very slowly, a step at a time.
"How about those people on the bridge?" Rex asked in curiosity.
Upon hearing this, Kazzir spared them a glance, and answered, "Around six hours, but those above the eighth-rank realm could cut that time in half—and shorter for those stronger than that. Although our barrier helped reduce the pulling gravity, it was not perfect"
Rex nodded his head, he anticipated that answer.
It was safe to say that the Tabaxi—had quite a unique structure, but considering their weird geographical terrain, Rex expected no less from them. Nobody other than them, perhaps in the entire world has their kind of circumstance.
Having two sectors, the Green Edge and Golden Edge that were separated by a bridge that would need six hours to cross—that kind of lag has to be an extreme disadvantage—if they were being seige.
Large armies would have a hard time crossing.
And if the army did cross, they would be a sitting duck prone to being attacked.
Even though the Saltura Bridge could handle tens of thousands at one go, massive in size—length and width—it was still hard to cross. Six hours was not a small timeframe, and even if it was one hour, it was still a big gap of weakness.
Had any forces known their exact timing, it would've been over. Experience tales at empire
I can use this to trap the Dark Angels but that needs the help of the twin rulers.
If the Dark Angels were crossing and any forces intercepted them, it would've been over.
Just from this realization alone, learning more about the Saltura Bridge, Rex could now really understand how important—the Zahara Consortium was. Iris was right. As the absolute ruler of the bridge, they would play a huge role in the confrontation with the Dark Angels.
Having the Tabaxis on our side is a must. Should I bribe them? If Kazzir—the commander of the kingdom was greedy then the twin rulers must also be greedy. Subjects of the kingdom reflect the ruler.
As he contemplated, time flew by.
In the next moment, Rex realized that they had arrived on the other side.
He stepped into the chamber, that had a similar theme to the previous one, equipped with a waiting table and chairs—and found two Tabaxis awaiting him there. Compared to the other Tabaxis, these two were very human-like.
What made the difference were their tails, whiskers, and cat ears.
Other than that, they were Human through and through.
"Rex Silverstar?" One of them pointed at Rex and asked.
Upon hearing this, Iris stepped forward, "Please don't address His Majesty so lightly"
"This our territory," the female Tabaxi, a woman with jet-black hair and red cat ears said. "we will address him, however we want. Even the Dark Archangel who came here was addressed the same way"
Clenching her jaw, Iris stepped back although she was evidently displeased.
Rex, on the other hand, smirked.
They tried to agitate us and instantly mentioned the Dark Angels, interesting. I will see what you have to offer.
