Chapter 1362: Cornering Shadow
Chapter 1362: Cornering Shadow
Fenrik was forced to turn to a direction every time a rustling sound echoed.
He turned—when the branches behind him swayed, he turned—when the ground beside him was peeled, he turned when a rough breath caressed his neck. No matter how fast he turned Shadow was nowhere to be seen.
It felt like he was fighting something intangible, Shadow’s presence merged with the forest.
Other than this chilling feeling that he was being watched, Shadow’s presence was hidden.
Slash!
A groan exploded from Fenrik’s mouth as his chest bled, he was scratched.
Recovering from his reverie, Mavok came to his aid.
Both of them pushed their backs together, covering their six.
"What happened to Valkis and the rest?"
"I don’t know but I’m sure they’re fine—the Royal Black Prince’s clone is there. I think Shadow is targeting us because we’re separated, we need to get out of here. Follow me!"
Managing to crack the flaw in the dominion, Mavok could lead them out of this place.
Both of them need to reunite and find a way to counter Shadow’s invisibility.
However, it was easier said than done, Shadow was constantly attacking them—but none of the attacks, were lethal. Shadow was toying with them, its minions excel in stealth, so it was not surprising that Shadow had this kind of ability and playing tricks on them.
Just like intelligent beings, animals also felt the thrill of getting stronger.
From the reports, Shadow was cramped here as it was fearful of Ruler-class Order Beasts.
So once playthings were entering its dominion, it was bound to have fun.
Unfortunately, its way of having fun was through this.
Mavok and Fenrik were riddled with small cuts—their regeneration closed them up, but more cuts replaced them. Knowing that none of the two could sense Shadow, they tried trusting in their instincts.
Each time they felt Shadow was about to attack, they swiped their claws.
So far, the two cornered Alpha Primes hits nothing but air.
As this goes on, Shadow became more cocky, it flashed its face before striking them both.
It tried to give both hints of where it was but it was still futile.
Shadow was completely untouchable, it was too hard to track it with its invisibility active.
Gritting his teeth—as none of their attempts worked, Mavok charged his claws with a torrent of kingly energy—and punched the ground hard. His punch exploded the ground, debris flew before he and Fenrik used that momentum to dash away.
Both of them came out of the smoke like bullets, heading in a direction.
Movak led the way, his eyes were fixed on the dark stones on the ground.
Even then, even though their movements were fast, reading each other’s minds on what they were going to do without saying it, the sound of rushed footsteps could be heard—from right behind them—Shadow was also showing that it was faster.
Glancing over his shoulder, Fenrik saw something approaching quickly.
It was Shadow, the layer of dust stuck to its figure, making it somewhat feasible to see.
Crash!
Shadow struck with its massive paw but Fenrik was able to dodge its attack for the first time.
But Shadow realized what was happening too quickly.
It was intelligent.
Realizing that Fenrik realized the flaw of its invisibility ability, the fact that it was still—quite a tangible being, Shadow didn’t waste time to end them. Other toys were around, there was no need for it to stick to playing with these ones.
Shadow wasn’t picky, it had no favorite toy.
At the exact moment, it realized that—Shadow suddenly exploded with more speed.
It went underground, turning into an independent shadow, and headed to Fenrik.
Faster than the blink of an eye, it reached Fenrik and emerged behind him.
Despite its speed, Fenrik’s body could react but his eyes widened when his eyes were forced to witness the sight of his heart being clawed out viciously. But it was not real, it was nothing but an induced vision of mortality that ate up his reaction time.
Splash!
Growl!
Unable to react in time, Fenrik’s entire left shoulder was bitten from behind.
Mavok glanced to the side and saw a massive blazing serpent snaking past him.
It moved incredibly fast and instantly coiled around Shadow’s legs.
Roar!!
An echoing roar resounded and Adhara came crashing from the sky like a meteor, she was in starvation for a good battle, the slaves she met across the way couldn’t satisfy her hunger. It barely suffices as an appetizer for the main battle.
Making a violent intrusion, she clawed Shadow from above and joined the battle.
It was now two-on-one, their clash becoming more destructive.
Observing the battle from the side, Mavok and Fenrik saw that Adhara was akin to Gistella.
She also found Shadow’s invisibility to be no problem.
But unlike Gistella, Mavok noticed that her eyes weren’t looking at Shadow directly, she was only moving, and striking once Shadow made a move. It seemed she couldn’t see Shadow if not with the help of her serpent spirit, but she could feel it.
Amidst the confusion, Flunra landed nearby.
He was completely fine, his eyes were clear.
Mavok and Fenrik sensed that he must already handle the Demon Moon’s blessing.
"Gistella has death energy inside of her, her black heart was still pumping with it as she was once an Undead—before she was turned," Flunra explained, gazing ahead at the battle. "On the other hand, Adhara has absorbed so much of the Demon Moon’s blessing, that all of her senses became stronger, allowing her to sense Shadow’s invisibility"
"How did you get here?" Mavok asked.
Considering that they were targeted, he reckoned that they were isolated in this place.
Even Valkis and the rest haven’t come to them so they were obviously isolated.
So Mavok was wondering how Adhara, Gistella, and Flunra were here.
"Of course, this is only possible because the Alpha’s clone was here..." Flunra replied.
Upon hearing this, Mavok and Fenrik exchanged a look.
It seemed even without his actual flesh being here, Rex was still a very great help.
"Should we also let our Iron Fang take over so we could sense it too?" Fenrik asked.
Flunra shook his head, "No need, I’ll handle it"
Cracking his neck, Flunra took a couple of steps towards the battle’s direction.
He closed his eyes for a second, before opening his eyes again, staring at the Demon Moon above. Nodding his head lightly—his entire body suddenly exploded with moonlight energy, as well as activating his Banished Dark Moon Herald Mark.
Under the sheer weight of his aura, the ground cracked.
Making a quick maneuver, Flunra coated his claws with moonlight energy before he made a circular arc. He blasted a circular energy slash—that expanded rapidly, forcing both Mavok, and Fenrik to duck down.
In addition, Shadow, Adhara, and Gistella also leaped to avoid the energy slash.
None of them were hurt but the energy slash flattened the trees in the area.
Flunra created a makeshift glade that allowed the moonlight to shine down on them better.
Not stopping at that, he pointed his fist forward, igniting an ancient rune beneath Shadow.
Its fiery script seared into existence with a blaze of power.
Shadow’s eyes darted downward, sensing the energy, but it was too late. A surging torrent of energy erupted from below, engulfing it, in a devastating blast. Despite how it looked—it didn’t hurt Shadow but the runic energy from it stuck to its body like glue.
Despite its invisibility skill, the runic energy made the curves and edges of its body glow.
Flurna rendered its invisibility out of the window with one simple rune.
Now even Mavok and Fenrik could see Shadow perfectly.
Rendering its invisibility skill inactive as it was useless now, Shadow emerged, and displayed its appearance for their eyes to see. A massive black lioness that was corrupted with unique characteristics from its death affinity.
Roar!!
Shadow roared, summoning hundreds of slaves from the ground.
Seeing this, Flunra leaped to the other side.
Mavok and Fenrik also did the same, all of them took on a spot with Shadow at the center.
Even for an Order Beast of Shadow’s caliber, this line-up was worrying.
"Now, let’s start the hunt properly..."
