Chapter 1123: Fate of the Human Forces

Chapter 1123: Fate of the Human Forces

Adhara gasped when she heard the words that came out of Rex's lips.

It stunned her for a moment—and even made her doubt whether her hearing was impaired.

However, seeing Rex's seriousness, she realized that she hadn't heard it wrong.

"Rex, you're kidding, right?" She mumbled in disbelief.

Not even coming out with a response—to Adhara's disbelief—Rex made his way towards the captive human forces with wide strides. He had a fixed goal in mind. Meanwhile, Adhara was left aghast before she quickly ran after him.

She was stumbling in her steps, not fully healed from her battle wounds yet.

"Wait a minute-! Didn't you promise Giana and Prof. K that you would help Humanity?!"

"I did, and I would do it after I kill the army"

"No, you can't do that. What about President Sebrof and the Awakened he brought? What do you think they would think when you do something like this? Surely their effort to help you is worth something—and their opinions on you matter!"

"All of them are in a high position of power, they know that sacrifices need to be made"

Despite Adhara's attempt to dissuade him, it falls short.

Even though she understands that the army consists of extremists loyal to the Fifthborn, her conscience still feels heavy—if she lets Rex massacre these humans who had already waved a white flag in surrender.

Some may have been coerced into joining, making the situation even more distressing.

It didn't take long for Rex to reach the captive human forces.

Flunra and the other Supernatural generals were there, watching over the humans with sharp eyes, expecting that some of them would still try to retaliate. But their focus was pulled when Rex reached them from the side.

Upon seeing him recovering quickly, their eyes flashed in excitement.

Knowing the grief he was feeling, all of them were prepared to stay longer if needed.

But it seems there was no need as Rex already got a grip on himself.

Soon enough, they saw the troubled expression Adhara was wearing as she tried to stop Rex by grabbing his arm, which was completely futile. All of them raised their eyebrows confused—yet it seemed there was a problem.

"How about Edward? I'm sure if he was here, he's going to disapprove this," Adhara added.

Instead of the earlier ones, this time, Rex stopped and turned to face her.

Just from the looks of it—bringing Edward's name irked Rex, "Listen to me carefully. I know that we ended up winning the battle, it ended up in our favor, but did you ever stop to think about what would happen if we lost? If I couldn't defeat the Fifthborn?"

"Go on, try and think what the situation would be if we lost" He added with a fierce tone.

Adhara was tongue-tied when she heard this.

Had the Fifthborn come out as the victor—then it was obvious that he would command all of the human forces, to wipe out the remaining Supernaturals. Even if some of them, refused to do that, which was quite a fantasy, they wouldn't be able to disobey the Fifthborn's order.

Eventually, they were forced to kill to preserve their own lives.

Seeing that she wasn't able to muster any answer, Rex proceeded to point at the humans.

"Look at them, look at each one of their fucking faces."

"All of these bastards—these bastards! Only wore these sad—and depressing faces not for a fraction of regret of what they are trying to do, no, they are like this merely because they lost the battle. Had the tables been turned, they would've laughed and killed us without mercy,"

Regardless of how sharp Rex's tongue was, Adhara couldn't refute his words.

It was true that things wouldn't be all pretty if the tables were turned.

Because of the commotion from their argument, all eyes went on them without exception.

Amongst them were President Sebrof and Giana.

Despite not being wounded too severely, only needing to dispel the excessive foreign energy inside of them—the two alongside the other ninth-rank realm Awakened stayed behind when they heard that there was a possibility that the captive human forces would've let go.

Such a thing was surprising, considering that these people attempted genocide.

Evidently, his answer was depicted on his troubled face.

Knowing that there was hope that Rex wouldn't resort to such violence, Evelyn continued.

"We might not know fully what you were like in the past—but I'm sure you turned out the way you were back then because there was nobody who could help you. Now, their circumstance is different, they have you to lead and guide them,"

"If anything, they wouldn't end up way better than you were in the past," She added firmly.

A final nail to the coffin that dissuades Rex from his decision.

Under those persuasions, his decision swayed to the other side—changing his conclusion.

Pausing for a moment, Rex turned and made eye contact with Evelyn.

Both of them stayed like that for several seconds.

Evelyn discerned a newfound intensity in Rex's gaze—a new light as though his perception of her had shifted, right under her gaze. While she didn't know what exactly changed, she knew that Rex had reached a decisive conclusion.

Regardless of the change, at the very least, Rex would give them a second chance.

Showcasing a smile and a nod, giving the last push for Rex to be the bigger heart in this hard scenario, he finally sighed and darted his attention back to the human forces viciously. "All of you should be thankful, and kiss their feet for saving your lives. If it weren't for them—I would not give any of you pathetic fools a second chance,"

"Be better, and know that I'm always watching," He added finally and turned around.

Despite his anger, he kept it at bay and turned around to leave.

Upon hearing the words that came out of Rex's mouth—every single individual around could not hide their surprised emotion. None of them—expected that Rex would spare the humans who essentially aimed to destroy him and his pack members.

It was a shocking revelation, the notoriously brutal Rex Silverstar showed mercy for once.

Even the human forces themselves had their eyes widened in surprise.

All of them had accepted death, but it seemed fate decided to prolong their lives.

Striding away from the human forces, after declaring his decision—Evelyn grabbed Rex's arm lightly, stopping him when he was about to walk past her. Without turning to face him, Evelyn murmured softly, "Thank you."

Rex remained silent and didn't answer.

As opposed to saying anything to her, he turned to Kyran, "Kyran, come with me,"

Not even asking the reason for calling him—Kyran swiftly assisted Evelyn in lowering herself onto the ground while gesturing for Adhara to lend her help. Then—he hastened to catch up with Rex, who had already walked away without waiting for him.

Moments later, Evelyn turned and saw Kyran headed back towards her.

He talked with Rex about something, and it seemed serious, for a couple of minutes or so.

"What did he say?" She asked questioningly.

Upon hearing this, Kyran waved his hand, signaling that it was nothing.

"Never mind that, I have a question that has been bugging me. Can I ask you about it?"

"A question? Sure, what is it?"

"I was in deep slumber because of the Ice and Snow Moon—but not too long ago I regained my consciousness albeit I still couldn't move my body. I was fully aware of my surroundings, and I felt the pain was coming from you. Was that something the Executor did to you?"

Kyran wanted to ask this, but he didn't have the moment to ask.

Now that the battle was over, he opted to ask Evelyn about this as it had been bugging him.

But this made Evelyn knit her eyebrows, trying to remember what Kyran meant.

"Pain?" She murmured in contemplation.

Eventually, her eyes flickered as she recalled what happened.

"Oh! I had some trouble with the newly awakened Dark Elves, but it's alright now,"

"The Dark... Elves...?"
