Chapter 400: Still Fleeting

Chapter 400: Still Fleeting
It can only be said that the Black Order truly deserves to be Thanos's reliable backbone and core confidants; their efficiency in doing things is much higher than that of other ordinary, incompetent henchmen.
Putting everything else aside, even their speed in courting death is unparalleled.
Joey had initially agreed to Gamora's request, intending to collect all the Infinity Stones before even lifting a finger to help her resolve the situation.
Unexpectedly, these people dared to come to him on their own initiative. Since that's the case, it's just a matter of incident for Joey.
The superstar broke his long-standing agreement, barging into the minds of these ruthless teammates and sending a message to Corvus Glaive from afar: "Watch out, Corvus Glaive, your blade—"
This undoubtedly incurred Corvus Glaive's displeasure, after all, he was a person who valued his privacy highly: "I've told you many times, don't talk to me like that—get out of my mind!"
Supergiant, expelled from Corvus Glaive's mind by the powerful feedback, could only watch in despair as Corvus Glaive confidently slashed his blade at Superman.
Corvus Glaive swung his blade down, a cruel smile already appearing on his face. His opponent was unable to move due to Ebony Maw's telekinetic suppression, making him a perfect practice target.
The blade in his hand is a demonic weapon capable of draining life and severing souls; no one can survive a solid cut from it.
Just like when they first met, he felt he had the victory in his grasp.
But reality will soon make him understand why Earthlings always habitually refer to Superman as "Man of Steel".
This time, his demonic blade performed even worse than before; when it struck Joey's outer bio-field, it could not advance any further.
Moreover, because this type of attack had already been documented, the bio-force field originating from the energy that destroyed Japan even briefly evolved a similar but opposite mechanism.
Inspired by the demonic blade's ability to draw upon life and soul energy, a portion of the bio-field's energy began to flow back along the contact area.
As a general who has his soul residing within the Demon Blade, when he slashes at the bio-field, it is equivalent to directly contacting the bio-field with his own soul.
This time, the ominous demonic blade did not shatter, but instead began to burn fiercely, along with the soul of the Corvus Glaive General.
This process manifests physically as his supposedly immortal skeletal body igniting with blazing flames; anyone unaware of the situation might mistake him for an impending Ghost Rider transformation.
Joey didn't even move; the bio-field automatically helped him kill Corvus Glaive.
Joey's eyes glowed red, helping Corvus Glaive speed up the process. Less than a second later, the burned bones and blades crashed to the ground, shattering into a pile of charred black residue.
All of this happened so fast that there was no time for the superstar to give any further warnings before Corvus Glaive was already dead.
"Superstar actually dislikes her killing-obsessed colleagues to no end, but her powerful mental abilities make her physically extremely vulnerable. Without anyone else in front of her, her death would be imminent."
What she saw were things that had already happened. In Superman's memory, Corvus Glaive had already been reduced to ashes by him once before.
The opponent knew perfectly well that Corvus Glaive could resurrect infinitely, and that his weakness lay in that demonic blade. Yet, Superman once again used the same trick and easily defeated him.
My own reminder turned into a synchronized death sentence.
"Proxima Midnight, beware of his eyes—"
While reminding Corvus Glaive, the white giant star is also trying to remind other teammates, such as Proxima Midnight, which is the closest star to Superman besides Corvus Glaive.
Unsurprisingly, the same answer came: "Get out of my head!"
In less than a second, almost at the same time that Corvus Glaive began to die, Proxima Midnight, wielding a spear said to be "comparable to Gungnir," entered Joey's line of sight.
Before she could even throw the gun tip, a beam of heat followed Joey's gaze and sent heat out, instantly igniting her head into a human-shaped torch.
"Ahhhhh!"
The screams of Proxima Midnight and the agony of her head being burned alive were transmitted in that instant, making even the supergiant regret having the ability to communicate telepathically.
Just like Corvus Glaive, the same way he had seen die in Superman's memories had also come true for Proxima Midnight, and this time it was just as long and painful.
Superman didn't even move an inch after doing all of this.
The incredibly strong Black Dwarf entered his battle range just as Proxima Midnight was ignited. He passed by Proxima Midnight, who was already on the verge of death, and leaped behind Superman.
Believing he was out of Joey's sight, he brandished his battle axe and charged at Superman with a roar: "Die!"
As Joey's thoughts began to surface naturally in his mind, for the white giant star whose consciousness had not yet left, this was a kind of preview for the next episode.
"Watch out, he might use that spear from Proxima Midnight!"
The white giant desperately channeled its consciousness into the black dwarf's brain, but to no avail.
With a simple turn, Joey shattered the psychic confinement space around him. Ebony Maw's psychic blockade was no more devastating to him than a Kryptonian's fist.
Just as the white giant star reminded the black dwarf, he reached out and picked up the spear that Proxima Midnight had dropped in front of him, turned around and threw it. The spear tip pierced through his body, and the spear pinned the black dwarf to the floor.
"You know us very well, and you must also know our master, the Mad Titan Thanos. Perhaps we can make another deal and end this conflict here, what do you say?"
Ebony Maw feigned composure, but in reality, he was already preparing his killing move: "If you are magnanimous enough to release the rest of us, I can go back and persuade my master Thanos to be equally magnanimous and not retaliate against you or your Earth. That way, no one else will die!"
As soon as the word "death" was uttered, a psychic spike, fueled by Ebony Maw's accumulated power, burst forth from the void, heading straight for Superman's forehead.
Ebony Maw's impromptu plan was quite sophisticated. By invoking Thanos's name to blackmail the other party, everyone in the universe would have to be cautious.
This gave him the opportunity to unleash this precise killing move.
This won't work—the white giant star muttered to himself.
She has now lost the courage to help her teammates, and she offered no warning to Ebony Maw.
She was already terrified, and this wasn't something that just started happening now, but rather from the very beginning.
Ebony Maw's reckless and ignorant sneak attack served no purpose other than to make her death even more gruesome.
Superman knew the other party's plan from the very beginning.
She could tell at first glance that this superman was not like the moral guardians they had encountered when they slaughtered one civilization after another; he made no attempt to hide his malice.
Mentioning their master Thanos is utterly meaningless; the Superman before them would never be intimidated by that name for even a second.
Even though these disappointing teammates of the White Giant Star had died twice in her memory and experience, they were not as shocking as the memory she saw at the beginning.
Even the "Great Thanos," the mad Titan they spoke of, was, in Superman's eyes, nothing more than a boastful, fleeting madman.
However, Ebony Maw's words weren't entirely useless; at least Joey was prepared to spare his life for the time being: "You've reminded me of that."
With his super vision activated, Joey easily located Ebony Maw's brain and other connective tissues in his body that housed the neurons that drove his telekinesis.
His eyes glowed red, as if these neurons had been precisely burned away by the thermal vision.
Ebony Maw, who had been using his telekinesis to maintain his levitation, crashed to the ground with a thud. Only then did disbelief and terror show in his eyes. He was about to say something when he found that his usually bewitching voice could only produce a whimper: "Woo woo woo—"
Since Ebony Maw was Thanos's most trusted mouthpiece, Joey also burned his vocal cords as well.
"You can write, after all, right? Go back and tell your master—"
'
Looking down at Ebony Maw, who was temporarily unable to move, Joey realized that he seemed to be getting into more and more trouble.
But rather than letting Thanos roam the universe frantically searching for him or the Infinity Stones he possesses, it's better to have him deliver them to his doorstep: "The Infinity Stones will all be in my hands. If he wants to come to Earth to claim them—remember to make an appointment in advance or get a Mickey Mouse fast pass." Earth is already overflowing with people.
Joey originally thought this place would be more peaceful and tranquil, but he never expected that Earth would be experiencing some kind of cosmic chaos. Just like the lame joke that Ebony Maw had given to Thanos earlier said, all the troubles are so numerous that no matter who comes to Earth, they have to wait in line.
After sparing Ebony Maw's life, Joey turned to leave, but was stopped by the trembling White Giant Star: "What about me?"
Without turning his head, Joey shook his head and left, watching the white giant star, whose mental state was on the verge of collapse and whose eyes were beginning to glaze over. "Too late."
Joey's three-word reply did not reach White Dwarf's ears, because at this moment she had become a vegetative person whose consciousness had been extinguished and whose only physical life force remained.
Her consciousness blurred for a moment, and the world in her eyes turned upside down. She was no longer inside the spaceship she had just been in, but in a barren Gobi desert.
It was nighttime, and all around was silent. With a sense of foreboding, Bai Juxing looked up at the sky and saw only two moons, one large and one small, hanging in the air.
She shouldn't have known, but now she did—this was Krypton's night.
She had stayed in Superman's mental world for too long, long enough to slowly sink down, sinking to the very edge of Joey's heart.
She learned more of Joey Joseph Kent's secrets, but at the cost of facing the beast within Kal'El unguarded in this lifeless Kryptonian wasteland.
Throughout Krypton's ancient history, no species in the Kryptonian ecosystem has ever survived the hunt of this ferocious beast.
