Chapter 37 The Little Lion
Chapter 37 The Little Lion
The pursuers arrived faster than Zhao Chen had anticipated.
Not long after Zhao Chen left the crime scene that day, three powerful auras appeared behind him—all at the mid-stage of the third-generation divine body, no weaker than the previous one. They didn't rush to give chase, but instead formed a fan shape to encircle him, clearly conducting an organized search.
"That was a quick reaction."
With a cold laugh, Zhao Chen activated his Golden Crow Escape Light and flew towards a nearby inhabited planet.
This was a grayish-green planet, its surface covered with dense primeval forests, with rolling mountains and swirling clouds. The planet wasn't large, but it was well-hidden. Zhao Chen passed through the atmosphere and landed deep within a dense forest.
After landing, he concealed all his presence, leaned against a giant tree, and waited quietly.
The pursuers' presence swept across the planet, circled for a while, found nothing amiss, and gradually disappeared into the distance.
"We're safe for now."
Relieved, Zhao Chen began to look around.
This is a primeval forest. The trees are hundreds of feet tall, blocking out the sun, and the ground is covered with a thick layer of fallen leaves. The air is filled with a damp smell, and the occasional roar of a beast can be heard in the distance.
Just as he was looking for a place to stay, a series of soft sounds reached Zhao Chen's ears.
It wasn't the lurking sound of an adult wild beast, but rather... some clumsy, ill-concealed noise.
Slightly tilting his head, Zhao Chen glanced in the direction the sound came from—a furry head was peeking out from behind a bush about twenty feet away.
It is a young animal.
The lion's head, with its sparse, ungrown mane, was covered in mud and leaves. The cub tried to curl itself into a ball, unaware that its tail was peeking out from behind the bushes.
Zhao Chen walked over, picked up the little guy, and placed him at his feet. He didn't say anything, just watched quietly.
The little lion seemed to realize that it had been exposed, hesitated for a while, and then opened its eyes.
He was so thin he was skin and bones, with several scabbed wounds on his body, but his eyes were surprisingly bright, his pupils piercing and full of energy, showing no fear, only vigilance and curiosity.
"You... are not a monster."
The voice was young and slightly hoarse, as if the speaker didn't speak often.
Zhao Chen looked at him but did not answer.
The little lion took a step forward, his nose twitching as he sniffed hard. Then he froze, a look of surprise flashing in his eyes.
"You smell so strongly of blood. Have you killed many wild animals?"
Zhao Chen remained silent.
The little lion suddenly came up to him, circled him twice, its tail swishing behind it, then raised its head and looked at him with bright, sparkling eyes.
Teach me how to hunt.
Zhao Chen: "..."
He looked at the skinny, dirty little lion with a matter-of-fact expression and found it a bit funny.
Why should I teach you?
The little lion said somewhat self-righteously, "Because you've killed so many prey. I want to be a hunter too. You teach me, and I'll help you hunt. We'll share half the prey with you from now on."
Zhao Chen couldn't help but laugh.
This little rascal is quite interesting.
"What's your name?" Zhao Chen asked.
The little lion puffed out his chest, though it was so thin you could count his ribs: "Rengar. A flesh-toothed beastman."
Zhao Chen was suddenly taken aback.
Who? Rengar? The legendary poodle?
That name... it's a household name.
In my past life, I had memories of playing League of Legends in internet cafes. There was a champion called "The Pride Hunter," and that was his name. He was a Vastayan, a lion-like race, who lived by hunting down the strong, and he was sworn enemies with a Void creature named Kha'Zix.
However, while this hero is undeniably cool, Zhao Chen felt he really didn't know how to use his skills. He felt it was far less fun than his nemesis, Kha'Zix.
Looking down at the skinny little lion in front of him, Zhao Chen suddenly felt a little uneasy.
It turns out this little brat will grow up to be a hunter that strikes fear into the hearts of countless people.
How old are you?
Rengar thought for a moment: "About... three rainy seasons?"
Zhao Chen raised an eyebrow. Three rainy seasons, so he'd only be about three years old. Abandoned at such a young age, it's a good thing he was weaned before being chased away! ~ To survive all that and still manage to get here, he's got a tough life.
"Don't your family members contact you?"
Rengar waved his hand dismissively: "Just throw me away. They said I'm too weak to survive. It's fine, I can live on my own."
He spoke casually, but Zhao Chen could tell from his pitiful, almost tearful expression that the little rascal actually cared a lot.
Looking down at Rengar, with his thin body and filthy hair, he had a pair of surprisingly bright eyes.
The future hunter of pride is now crouching in front of him, eagerly waiting for him to nod.
That's interesting. I felt his skills were too weak in my past life. The hero's profile says he learned all his skills from a hunter, and even a legendary hunter is still just a mortal. I don't know how he managed to fight Kha'Zix to a standstill.
Thinking about how strong he would become if he taught him these skills, Zhao Chen was really looking forward to it!
"Alright." He turned and walked into the woods. "Follow me."
Rengar paused for a moment, then a big smile spread across his face, and he scrambled after him.
"Big brother! You're my big brother now, right!"
Zhao Chen didn't turn around, but the corners of his mouth turned up slightly.
This little brat is quite informal.
-
Three days later, in a secluded valley.
Rengar sat cross-legged on the ground, mimicking Zhao Chen, closing his eyes and trying to sense the moon in the sky.
Fifteen minutes later, he opened his eyes, his face full of dejection.
"Big brother, it's not working. I can't feel anything."
Zhao Chen raised an eyebrow: "Try to touch the moon with your spirit, not with your eyes."
Rengar closed his eyes again, his face flushed, and strained to "look" at the sky. Fifteen minutes later, he collapsed to the ground, gasping for breath.
"Big brother... my head hurts... there's nothing there..."
Zhao Chen looked at him, seemingly lost in thought.
This little brat is only three years old, and his spiritual power hasn't developed yet. It's impossible for him to control the moonlight on his own. With his current soul strength, even if he could recite the method perfectly, it would be useless.
"come over."
Rengar got up and eagerly went over.
Zhao Chen reached out and placed his hand on Rengar's head, closed his eyes, and withdrew the fire of the sun, a faint wisp of spiritual energy probed into Rengar's body. The little guy's meridians were pitifully thin, but they were pure and free of impurities.
"Don't move."
He whispered, then separated a wisp of his spiritual power, transforming it into an invisible thread, and reached towards the moon in the sky.
The moonlight, cool and clear, slowly descended along that silken thread.
Zhao Chen did not introduce it into his own body, but instead guided the energy to seep into Rengar's brow little by little.
Rengar shuddered, his eyes widening in shock.
"Big brother! Something's come in! It's cold!"
"Quiet down, concentrate," Zhao Chen whispered.
Rengar immediately shut his mouth and clumsily guided the cool energy through his body using the breathing technique he had been taught. Although he stumbled along, he did manage to absorb a small amount of that energy.
Fifteen minutes later, Zhao Chen withdrew his hand.
Rengar opened his eyes, his face beaming with excitement: "Big brother! I can feel it! My mind is so clear! I feel so much more energetic!"
Zhao Chen nodded: "Yes, once a day, take it slow."
Rengar leaned closer, his eyes sparkling: "Big brother, how did you do that? Why couldn't I do it myself?"
"You're too young now, your mental strength isn't enough," Zhao Chen said calmly. "Once you're older, you'll be able to come by yourself."
Rengar nodded thoughtfully, then suddenly hugged Zhao Chen's leg, tilted his head back, and smiled so hard his eyes narrowed into slits.
"My older brother is the best to me!"
Zhao Chen looked down at him and pushed him away with disgust.
"Go practice."
"Okay!"
Rengar scurried back to his original spot and sat cross-legged again. Although he still couldn't pull it, he was already savoring the cool feeling he had just experienced.
Zhao Chen leaned against a rock not far away, closed his eyes to rest, and the corners of his mouth turned up slightly.
This little brat knows how to get things done.
The pursuers outside are probably still searching. But he's not in a hurry. With so many planets, hiding for a year or two shouldn't be a problem.
Perfect timing, let's raise this future little hunter.
