Chapter 365: Chapter 365: Champion
Xiao Han was in the first group.
The first group had eight people. Xiao Han was in lane three. Today, Xiao Han still wore long pants and a long-sleeved shirt. In contrast, the other athletes were all dressed in professional running attire and spike shoes which greatly assisted in accelerating their speed. Xiao Han, however, wore very ordinary running shoes. Though he was behind in terms of equipment, Xiao Han was not worried at all.
“Take your positions!” the referee shouted loudly.
All eight athletes who were still loosening up their muscles promptly got ready.
Everyone crouched down, adopting a squatting start position. The venue fell silent, just waiting for the referee’s next command.
“Ready!” the referee raised the starting gun, ready to trigger it at any moment.
...
Whirrr...
All buttocks were cocked up, the right thighs stretched out stiff and rigid. Each person displayed extraordinary prowess. Their thigh muscles were very firm. These individuals had been selected through the preliminaries and semi-finals, so their abilities were indeed very prominent.
Bang!
At the sound of the gun, everyone surged forward with all their might.
Tao Jun rushed out like an unleashed beast, and Xiao Han swiftly followed after adjusting his breathing and stepping forward.
However, after running just over ten meters, Xiao Han stepped down and instantly his soles wobbled. He clearly stepped on something amiss. Xiao Han instantly became unstable. He was thrown forward. If it were anyone else, they probably would have fallen face down. But this was Xiao Han confronting this situation; he didn’t panic but instead stabilized himself, leaped forward, and quickly surged ahead. Originally unstable, this leap immediately helped him maintain stability.
Nevertheless, after that disruption, Xiao Han was now second to last in his group, with Tao Jun almost five meters ahead of him. In a hundred-meter race, this was already a considerable distance. If Xiao Han didn’t hurry to catch up, he would not be able to.
They were about to cover a fifty-meter distance, and seeing this, Xiao Han gritted his teeth and pursued.
Five meters wasn’t far, but Tao Jun was, after all, the sprint king.
“It’s over, Xiao Han has no chance,” Zhang Feng said with a despondent face.
“No, there must still be hope,” Zhang Dagou quickly shook his head, saying, “Don’t you all remember? Xiao Han is someone who excels at creating miracles. You should hold onto hope for him. He can definitely catch up.”
“Right, right!” Zhang Feng nodded.
Lan Yudie was dressed very conservatively today, in stark contrast to her low-cut, hip-hugging mini skirt from the day before. Today, wrapped in a gray tracksuit, identical in color to Xiao Han’s, she resembled the guise of a couple.
She stood on the cheerleading platform, her heart trembling, watching Xiao Han almost lose his balance and fall. Her heart nearly leapt out of her throat.
Lan Yudie shouted loudly, “Xiao Han, keep going! Xiao Han, keep going!”
The cheerleading team behind her also crazily shouted, “Xiao Han, keep going!”
At that moment, the students from the Finance Department formed a wave of voices, one louder than the next. They all cheered for Xiao Han from the Finance Department. Although he was behind at that moment, they believed that Xiao Han could catch up, because he had already defeated Tao Jun in yesterday’s race. Hence, today’s Xiao Han was a top contender for the champion of the hundred-meter event.
“Kid, you’ve got quite the big mouth!” Tao Jun glared at Xiao Han, “You think just because you beat me, you’re invincible? How ignorant and ridiculous!”
“The ignorant one is you, the ridiculous one is also you!” Xiao Han chuckled, “A fair competition, yet you had to resort to conspiracies and tricks. Don’t you feel ashamed that you lost like this? If I were you, I’d want to crawl into a hole and hide. Or wish the other guy dead, for that matter!”
“You!” Tao Jun was furious, and he snapped, “I don’t know what you’re blabbering about. Just don’t think I’ll fall for your tricks.”
“Enough,” Xiao Han shook his head, “I couldn’t care less about you, loser!”
“Damn!” Tao Jun couldn’t contain his anger. He suddenly swung a fist hard at Xiao Han.
Bang! Bang!
However, Xiao Han kicked sideways, landing a blow on Tao Jun’s abdomen. Caught off guard, Tao Jun immediately fell to the ground, kneeling with both hands clutching his stomach and screaming in pain.
“I warned you, don’t just start flinging your arms around, or else, I’ll let you know my true power!” Xiao Han sneered coldly.
“Xiao Han, what are you doing!” Teacher Liu noticed what was happening and quickly ran over.
“Teacher Liu, he started it,” Xiao Han chuckled, then said, “I’m sure you saw it. As a physical education teacher, you should understand the principle of fairness and integrity. So, I hope you’ll handle this justly—since he was the one who threw the first punch, see what kind of punishment he should get!”
This was a classic case of playing the victim after gaining an advantage.
Though Tao Jun had thrown the first punch, Xiao Han’s retaliatory kicks had almost shattered the man’s internal organs. Yet, he even wanted Teacher Liu to punish Tao Jun. This was somewhat excessive. Teacher Liu was also furious but had nowhere to vent.
At that moment, Yudie hurried down from the stands and then said, “Xiao Han, that’s enough, let’s go.”
“Fine, for Teacher Lan’s sake, I won’t pursue this any further,” Xiao Han sneered coldly, then turned around and left with Yudie.
“This is killing me,” Teacher Liu fumed.
“Damn it, how could our prestigious Physical Education Department be humiliated like this?” A few other teachers were equally angry. But truthfully, they couldn’t compete with them—in sprinting or fighting—so it was a huge blow to the reputation of the Physical Education Department.
“Old Liu, we’ve got to turn things around no matter what!” Tiemu Khan’s wrestling coach clenched his teeth and said.
“Just bear with it for now,” Teacher Liu’s face turned beet red as he gritted his teeth, “We’ll settle the score with that kid later. I refuse to believe we can’t handle him.”
“Right!” Everyone nodded in agreement.
They really were at their wits’ end with Xiao Han. They had tried everything, but this kid just wouldn’t lose. They had even scattered beans on the track; he had stepped on them and nearly fell, yet somehow he didn’t go down, which made them feel incredibly frustrated and depressed. Thus, they just had to find another way to deal with Xiao Han, for the situation had already developed to this point and indeed made them feel helpless.
After winning the 100 meters event championship, Xiao Han quickly participated in other competitions, such as the 400 meters sprint.
