Chapter 1382: Power, Responsibility, and Peace ( 1382 )
Chapter 1382: Power, Responsibility, and Peace ( 1382 )
Both Harran and Fayrene were taken aback for a moment, exchanging a glance before Fayrene’s lips curled into a teasing smile."Ara~ I thought you were going to wish for more beautiful women in your life, or perhaps wealth, or even ultimate power. Most people, given the chance for a granted wish, would ask for immortality or something grand."
Javier smirked, glancing up at the shimmering sky.
"I already have beautiful girls in my life, more than I ever wished or hoped for. Girls I never would have had a chance with in my old world. Devoted, loyal, loving, the kind of women who would stand by their man no matter what."
He chuckled softly, shaking his head.
"The girl I’ve wanted since the day I was reborn into this world, Liana, was already more than enough for me. But somehow, I ended up with a whole harem. So no, I don’t need more women. I have enough on my plate with six future wives, it’s giving me a headache just thinking about it."
Javier turned his head, glancing at Fayrene before continuing.
"A wish for power? Please~ no." He made a face, wrinkling his nose in clear dislike. "More power just means more responsibility. Some people think power is the answer to everything, but they forget that with great power comes great expectations, greater enemies, and an even greater burden."
He paused, shoving his hands deeper into his pockets.
"I’ve already told you, I’m lazy. I just want an easy life. I want to enjoy my freedom, spend time with my girls and my family, inventing things I love, and living peacefully. Look at my father. According to you two, he’s the First Chosen Hero of the world, the strongest being in existence. And yet, he’s always busy, always planning, always carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders. He rarely has time to just relax and enjoy life."
He let out a soft chuckle.
"But I feel lucky to have a father like him. Even though he’s the strongest, he never uses his power to bully or oppress others. He uses it to protect. He silences his enemies without crushing the innocent. He leads with wisdom, not with fear. That’s the kind of man I respect. But that’s also the kind of life I don’t want for myself. I’d rather be the one supporting from the shadows than the one standing in the spotlight."
Harran rubbed his chin with a thoughtful smile as Javier continued, his expression turning serious.
"Don’t even joke about immortality," Javier said, his voice firm. "That’s the worst wish anyone could ever ask for. Living a long life is one thing, but living forever? That’s a curse disguised as a blessing."
He met their gazes, his voice dropping into a firm, measured tone.
"Immortality might seem like the ultimate prize, but in truth, it’s the ultimate prison. You watch everyone you love grow old and die while you remain unchanged. You lose the meaning of time, of relationships, of life itself."
He paused, his eyes narrowing.
"Every world created has its own laws, its own equilibrium, following a fundamental law of balance. The cycle of life and death, the flow of time, the rise and fall of civilizations, the light and shadow, they all exist to maintain order. To disrupt that balance with a wish as reckless as immortality would not only bring ruin upon the one who wishes for it, but upon the world itself."
He raised his palm, turning it over as he smiled softly.
"Just like my Hand of Creation talent. It might look like I can create something from nothing, but the truth is, I can’t. Creation without material is impossible. I can only rearrange, reshape, and repurpose what already exists. I’m manipulating existing matter, rearranging atoms and mana into a new form. I take what already exists and reshape it into something else, but I never truly create from a void."
He clenched his fist gently.
"Unlike a True Creator, who can will something into existence from absolute nothingness, my power is bound by the laws of the world I live in."
Javier smiled toward both of them, his expression softening.
"Some might say I could wish for us to be together forever, for my family to never part, for all of us to live eternally side by side."
He paused, shaking his head gently.
"But in reality... that’s just another form of selfishness disguised as love. Even if we all lived forever, the world around us would still change. People’s hearts would still change. The very meaning of ’forever’ would become a burden. We would see empires rise and fall, kingdoms turn to dust, landscapes shift beyond recognition, and we would be left as relics in a world that has moved on without us."
He shook his head gently.
"True happiness isn’t in defying death. It’s about cherishing the time you have, making every moment count, and letting go when the time comes. Even if I could freeze time and keep everyone I love by my side forever, would that truly make them happy? Or would they eventually feel trapped in a moment that never ends?"
He let out a soft breath, his smile turning wistful.
"That’s why I said ’as long as possible.’ Not forever. Just... long enough. Long enough for us to create memories, to laugh together, to grow together, and for her and my father to see their grandchildren grow up. When the time finally comes for everyone to leave, I want to be able to let go with a smile, knowing we had the best time we could have had. I’d rather cherish the time I have with them now, than cling to an eternity that would eventually become a cage for both them and myself."
He tilted his head, his tone lightening.
"Some might say I’m overthinking. That I’m too young to be worrying about these things. But I’ve lived two lives now. In my first life, I saw people waste years chasing things that didn’t matter. They worked themselves to the bone, accumulating wealth they never enjoyed, power they never used for good, status that faded the moment they were gone. I promised myself that if I ever got a second chance, I would live differently."
He tapped his chest lightly.
"I would live with purpose. Not a grand, world-saving purpose like my father, but a smaller, more meaningful one. I would love deeply, laugh often, build things that bring joy, and protect the people who matter most to me. And when my time comes, I’ll go with no regrets."
He looked up at the shimmering sky, a peaceful smile on his lips.
"So my wish isn’t to change the nature of existence. My wish is to stretch the time I have just a little longer. Not forever. Just enough. Because even a few extra years together would be worth more to me than an eternity of empty power."
