To entertain the guests, the Liang family prepared an especially lavish meal. At the table were mother and father Liang, Liang Rong and her husband, Shen Meng and her husband, along with Wang Shuyue, making a total of seven people seated. However, there were a total of nine meat and vegetable dishes on the table, along with two soups, making it a perfect ten-course meal.
Shen Meng glanced at the dishes and couldn’t help but wonder how the servants of the household arranged the meal. None of the dishes seemed to suit her taste.
She could understand why, being an outsider, the person responsible for arranging the meal might not know her preferences. But the fact that all the dishes were ones Liang Jue disliked was puzzling.
Considering how favored Liang Jue was in the household, such a mistake seemed unlikely.
At that moment, Shen Meng recalled the scene when Liang Rong urged Liang Jue to remarry in her previous life. Perhaps Liang Jue received less attention in the household than she had thought. For some reason, this made her feel uncomfortable.@@@@
She surveyed the dishes and found one that suited her taste, “Golden Harvest,” and scooped some into Liang Jue’s bowl. Liang Jue responded with a sweet smile, silently eating the food Shen Meng served him and reciprocating by serving her some dishes in return.
It was strange how they didn’t often eat together at the same table in the house, yet Liang Jue always knew her taste preferences. He always prepared dishes she liked and served her with care. Their tastes were remarkably similar, making them rare dining companions.
If it weren’t for what she pursued, she wouldn’t have chosen to give up Liang Jue. No one could deny that Liang Jue was an impeccable husband. That’s why she initially chose the most gentle way to divorce and left him some dignity in every aspect.
Recalling Liang Jue’s expression when he learned she wanted to divorce him, Shen Meng’s originally cheerful expression suddenly stiffened on her face.
Liang Jue, who had been paying attention to her, quietly asked, “What’s wrong? Is this dish not tasty?” The servants at home arranged the dishes according to his taste, and almost all the dishes placed beside him were ones he liked.
Perhaps feeling irritated by Shen Meng’s quick snatch of their son, the Liang family mother and daughter made her drink quite a bit of alcohol at the dining table. Although Shen Meng had a decent tolerance for alcohol, after drinking so much, she felt a bit tipsy and decided to take a nap in the room where Liang Jue used to stay.
Before she fell asleep, Liang Jue was by her side, but when she woke up, the sky outside had already darkened, and Liang Jue was nowhere to be found in the room.
She got up, dressed, and opened the door, only to see a servant who had been receiving them today standing at the door. She casually asked about Liang Jue’s whereabouts.
The servant replied, “Master has gone out for some matters.”
His manner of speaking seemed somewhat flustered, as if afraid Shen Meng might learn something. Shen Meng then asked a few more questions, “Where did he go?”
At first, the servant was evasive, claiming ignorance, but under Shen Meng’s sharp gaze, he finally spoke the truth, “Master should be in the garden at this time. I don’t know anything else.”
After saying this, he hurriedly left.
Shen Meng stared at the servant’s departing figure, thoughtful. His demeanor was overly exaggerated and artificial. His previous flustered attitude was a complete contrast to his natural and generous demeanor when they were received earlier. Moreover, when she asked, he initially insisted he knew nothing, only changing his tune after she stared at him for a while.
Clearly, someone deliberately wanted to lure her over. Though aware it was a trap, Shen Meng’s intuition told her that Liang Jue must indeed be in the garden. It was just that some people wanted her to see something she wouldn’t be pleased to see.
Shen Meng casually asked a servant for the garden’s location, crossed the winding corridors, and sure enough, found Liang Jue. However, Liang Jue was not alone in the garden; there was another person beside him, and they were embracing intimately. It wasn’t someone else but Wang Shuyue, who had been infatuated with him for many years.
