Chapter 45 Counterfeit Scrolls
Chapter 45 Counterfeit Scrolls
Boruto and his three friends sat around a campfire, with several fish that had just been caught from the stream skewered on top of it.
"The second exam has been going on for four days now," Boruto remarked with a sigh.
“Yes,” Sakura nodded in agreement.
Sasuke frowned slightly, thought for a moment, and then said, "The exam starts around 3 p.m., which means... there are only 25 to 26 hours left until the exam ends." His tone was somewhat heavy.
Boruto sighed and said helplessly, "So much happened in the two days before the exam that we didn't have time to look for the scroll. Luckily, we found something yesterday."
"Otherwise, I really don't know what to do."
Sakura also looked worried: "Several teams should have passed the test by now, right? That means..."
While everyone was struggling with how to pass the difficult Chunin Exams, Naruto sat alone to the side.
His eyes were fixed on the roasting fish over the fire, and he thought to himself: It should be almost done, right? I'll take the biggest one... Alright!
Sasuke pulled all the scrolls out of his pocket, a troubled look on his face, and muttered to himself, "Maybe it really is no use. Right now we only have one [Book of Heaven] and two [Books of Earth]."
Boruto suddenly stood up and suggested, "This whole thing started because of me. We only needed to get the three scrolls to pass. I'll go apologize to Examiner Anko, and maybe she can get us back to the mission objective."
Sasuke shook his head and said, "You said it yourself, it's not certain. We might as well think about how to get our hands on the last scroll."
Looking at the three scrolls on the ground, Sakura couldn't help but think pessimistically, "Perhaps... there are no more Heavenly Scrolls left?"
Upon hearing this, Boruto immediately asked, "Why do you say that?"
Sakura explained helplessly, "Because the second exam only has a five-day deadline, and four days have already passed."
"Eighty percent of the total exam time has passed. There are 78 participants in 26 groups. There are only 13 Heaven and Earth Scrolls each, so at most only 13 groups can pass."
Upon hearing this, Boruto immediately thought of the Heavenly Scroll that Orochimaru had previously taken: "Orochimaru destroyed a Heavenly Scroll in front of us, so we are missing one Heavenly Scroll."
Sasuke continued, "Besides the one we have, we can't guarantee that the remaining eleven Heavenly Scrolls will be safe, can we?"
Boruto and Sakura nodded.
"From now on, we must extend our operational range. In any case, the next enemy we encounter will be our last chance."
Sasuke slowly stood up and said, "I'll go get some water to drink." After eating, he turned and left.
This was Naruto, who, having eaten and drunk his fill, saw the three scrolls on the ground and had a wicked idea. He picked up one of the scrolls at random and said...
"Um... I have a good way to avoid fighting the enemy."
"Oh, what's the method?" Boruto immediately became interested.
Naruto smiled mysteriously and took out many scrolls from his ninja tool bag.
Sakura, standing nearby, immediately understood his intention: "You mean...?"
Naruto nodded and said, "That's right! We can imitate these scrolls and create new Heavenly Scrolls. As for scrolls, I have plenty here."
Boruto frowned and said, "Even if you do that, you won't know what's written inside. If the examiner finds out, you'll be exposed immediately."
Sakura said, "Besides, we don't even know what's written inside, you idiot!"
Naruto picked up a Heaven Scroll from the ground and said, "Look, isn't there one right here? And we don't even need to use the Earth Scroll to deduce what's written on the Heaven Scroll."
Boruto exclaimed in shock, "Are you going to open this scroll? Didn't we say we absolutely couldn't open it to see its contents before reaching the central tower?"
Naruto said, "Don't you want to see what's inside?" As he spoke, Naruto was about to open the scroll.
"Wait a minute!" Just as Naruto was about to open the scroll, Boruto stopped him, saying, "What if it contains some kind of ninjutsu?"
Boruto then threatened Naruto, saying, "Or maybe there's an examiner hidden inside. When you open the scroll, he might suddenly jump out and say you're not qualified."
Hearing Boruto's threat, Naruto's hand, which was about to open the scroll, trembled involuntarily: "No...no way?"
At this moment, Kabuto Yakushi suddenly appeared and said, "That's right. Although it's not as outrageous as Boruto said, those who ignore the rules will definitely be forced to give up the exam."
“Every year during the exams, someone would look at the scroll halfway through and fall under the hypnotic spell written inside, remaining in this forest until the exams were over.”
At this moment, Sasuke, who had gone out to fetch water, returned and, upon seeing Kabuto, assumed he was trying to steal his scroll.
Sasuke immediately threw down the water he had just scooped up and rushed to Boruto and the others.
After some explanation, Sasuke realized that Naruto had come up with a bad idea and was about to open the scroll, which made Sasuke glare at Naruto fiercely.
Naruto felt Sasuke's gaze and lowered his head apologetically, "I'm sorry..."
Sasuke looked at Kabuto with suspicion and asked, "By the way, you're Kabuto, right? Why are you wandering around here alone?"
When faced with Sasuke's questioning, Kabuto Yakushi did not show any obvious emotion: "I didn't mean to steal your scrolls."
“I think so too. If you wanted to snatch it, you might not even be able to beat them,” Sasuke said, glancing at Boruto beside him.
Are you also looking for the [Book of Heaven]?
Kabuto Yakushi pulled out two scrolls from behind his back and said, "No, it's because I've already collected them all. Look, I've completed the mission."
As he spoke, Kabuto held up the Book of Heaven and the Book of Earth and waved them in front of them.
"What!" Sasuke's eyes were fixed on the [Book of Heaven] in his hand.
“A lot has happened. I’m on my way to the tower to meet up with my lost companions. Well then, I’ll take my leave now.”
Noticing the intense gazes of the four of them, Kabuto put away the scroll in his hand and took his leave.
"Wait a minute," Sasuke called out to Kabuto Yakushi.
"Oh? Is there anything else?" Kabuto Yakushi stopped in his tracks as he was about to leave and asked Sasuke.
Sasuke looked at Kabuto Yakushi and said, word by word, "Let's settle this once and for all."
Boruto felt sorry for Kabuto, but there was no other way for the time being, so this was the only option.
If they miss this opportunity, they don't know if they will be able to pass the Chunin Exams.
