Chapter 58 You're such a bad kid

Chapter 58 You're such a bad kid

Chu Sheng almost jumped out of Amber's arms.

Amber placed one hand on the back of his neck, not with much force, but it firmly pressed him back down, and Chu Sheng's head sank into that soft warmth again.

Chu Sheng blinked.

"Don't move." Amber lowered her eyes, looking at Chu Sheng in her arms. "Be quiet for a while."

"Your Majesty, please don't worry about me." Chu Sheng looked up with difficulty. "You just said three years ago?"

"Um."

"Veronica?"

"Um."

"That Veronica, the strongest in modern times?"

Amber paused for a moment: "She's still the strongest in modern times?"

"Yes, it's officially recognized by the Empire."

Amber chuckled softly, her exaggeratedly ample bosom swaying slightly. The morning light filtered through her dress, illuminating her magnificent silhouette with exceptional clarity.

She looked down at Chu Sheng, her skirt collar stretched taut with a heavy, tight feel.

"But that's not right." Chu Sheng was unsettled and hadn't had time to appreciate the beautiful scenery. "Since I am the [Hero], then the previous [Hero] should be dead, right? That's what the Empire says, that's what Arthur says, and that's what Veronica's biography says too."

He raised his hand and gestured: "Isn't the rule that the previous administration sends it, and the next administration only refreshes it?"

Amber looked down at him: "Who told you that's necessarily the rule?"

Chu Sheng was stunned.

"Your human lifespans are too short, and you often mistake the result for the cause when recording things," she said softly. "After each generation of 'Heroes' appears, the previous generation never returns, so the Empire assumes that the previous 'Hero' is dead. Over time, this statement has become a so-called ironclad rule."

Chu Sheng's expression changed: "So Veronica was still alive three years ago?"

"At least when I saw her, she was alive." Amber's fingers slid from Chu Sheng's forehead to the side of his face and gently pinched his ear.

Chu Sheng shuddered as he was being squeezed: "Your Majesty, so what exactly happened three years ago?"

Amber helped Chu Sheng up and let him lean against her side. She didn't let go of his hand; she still held it. With just a gentle squeeze, she could envelop his entire hand in her palm.

She gently tapped his palm with her fingertips, as if recalling: "Three years ago, in late spring, Veronica and her companions came to the Sacred Tree Forest."

"She did not send a message in advance, nor did she follow the official route of an imperial envoy. When the guards found her, she was sitting on an old tree outside the royal court, drinking."

Chu Sheng imagined the scene: "It fits the way a strong person makes their entrance."

"How is her biography written?" Amber asked in return.

"The strongest and only anomaly hero in modern times, he gave up after searching for the Hero's Sword for over a year."

Amber shook her head: "She never gave up."

Chu Sheng's eyes narrowed.

Amber continued, "When I met her, she was carrying three maps with her. One was from the Imperial Knights, one from the Mage Tower, and the third had half of it burned off, and the writing on it was something I had never seen before."

"The first thing she asked me was, 'Has a sword ever appeared in the Sacred Tree Forest?'"

Chu Sheng sat up a little straighter: "The Sword of the Warrior?"

"Yes. Veronica was only a guest at the Royal Court for one day."

"In one day, she asked me many questions about the ancient legends of the Sacred Tree Forest. Where there was once a bottomless lake, where there are trees that never lose their leaves, and where ancient stone tablets from the spirits are buried."

"Her obsession with the sword of the hero far exceeds what you have described in the biography."

Chu Sheng frowned: "But even Arthur said she gave up after searching for a little over a year."

"That's the version the Empire wants to believe," Amber said calmly. "Veronica herself probably wouldn't agree with that."

Amber noticed his unease and gently ruffled his hair. "Scared?"

"It's normal for me to be scared, right?" Chu Sheng gave a wry smile. "The strongest in modern times has been searched for decades and they still haven't found him, let alone someone like me who just came out of the beginner's village."

"And what about her companion?" he steered the conversation back on track. "You mean she didn't come alone?"

"Yes." Amber nodded. "She brought two companions with her."

"One of them was a female soldier, over three meters tall, who had to bend over to enter the banquet hall."

Chu Sheng immediately pictured a muscular, fierce woman: "Over three meters tall? Is she a giant?"

"Maybe, but giants probably aren't that beautiful," Amber recalled. "She had darker skin, broad shoulders, a narrow waist, and carried a giant axe that was much taller than you. She couldn't sit on the chairs provided by the royal court and had to sit on the ground."

"She's very quiet when she eats, but she can drink a lot."

"How wonderful?" Chu Sheng asked with great interest.

"She drank a third of the royal wine collection."

Chu Sheng was filled with awe.

Amber added, "She respected Veronica, but it wasn't the kind of respect a subordinate showed to a superior. It was more like..."

"friend?"

Amber thought for a moment: "Pretty much."

Chu Sheng understood; this was Veronica's own hero squad!

"The second companion was a magician. She was covered from head to toe in a cloak, so I couldn't see what she looked like, and even her hands were covered in black gloves. She neither ate nor drank anything."

Amber's expression turned serious: "She sat in the corner all night without moving, but I could sense that she was very strong, with a dark aura about her."

Chu Sheng's heart skipped a beat: "The undead race?"

"She doesn't seem like one," Amber shook her head, "but she doesn't seem like an ordinary magician either. She was carrying a book with a black cover, but there were no words on its spine."

Chu Sheng subconsciously touched his chest. The strategy manual remained silent, showing no reaction.

Amber noticed his movement and her gaze fell on his chest: "You have a book too."

Chu Sheng knew he couldn't hide the fact that he was secretly looking at the strategy guide from her, so he coughed lightly and said, "A man needs some personal privacy when he's out and about."

Amber smiled, reached out and pinched Chu Sheng's chin, making him raise his head.

She leaned closer, her long, pale golden hair cascading down her shoulders and brushing against Chu Sheng's chest. The shadow cast by her voluptuous, mature figure completely enveloped him, and Chu Sheng could only see her bright, sparkling eyes.

"Then I'll ask now," she said softly, "Will you tell me?"

Chu Sheng swallowed hard and said softly, "I'll tell you when I've figured it out."

Amber looked at him for a moment, then released his grip: "Okay."

As she straightened up, her heavy, soft breasts swayed slightly, but she didn't seem to care: "Have you seen enough?"

"No." As soon as the words left his mouth, Chu Sheng wanted to slap himself.

Damn it, why did you have to say what was on your mind?

"Chu Sheng," Amber's voice laced with laughter, "you're such a naughty boy."

After she finished laughing, she continued with the important matter: "That magician rarely spoke, but she asked me a question before she left."

Chu Sheng immediately cleared his mind of distractions: "What's the problem?"

She asked me, "In all your years, have you ever seen two 'Heroes' at the same time?"

Amber said slowly, "I answered no at the time. In my thousands of years of memories, I have indeed never seen two heroes at the same time, and the Elven race does not know the secret of the [Hero] path. After hearing this, the mage said, 'Is that so?'"

Chu Sheng frowned.

Is that so?

What does this mean?
