"Heh, talk is cheap," a woman scoffed at Yang Qi. "Young Master Chen has money, but it doesn’t grow on trees. Why should he get a bigger private room just for you? Do you have any idea what the average cost per person is here? Over a thousand!" She continued relentlessly, "But we can switch if you want—you can pay for the difference!"

This woman was Qin Shuang. She had been the closest to Chen Chong during university, and though they never got together, she still harbored dreams of climbing the social ladder.

"Qin Shuang, stop talking nonsense. Don’t you know Yang Qi went bankrupt? Asking him to pay is the same as asking him to die," Chen Chong said, shaking his head. It sounded like he was defending Yang Qi, but his words were dripping with sarcasm.

"It’s fine. I have money. Worst-case scenario, I’ll treat everyone today. No need for Young Master Chen to spend a dime," Yang Qi said with a smile.

"You have money?" Chen Chong laughed. "I’m well aware of your situation. There will be dozens of our classmates here today. At an average of a thousand per person, that’s tens of thousands. Can you afford that? You might have, back when you had your company, but you’re bankrupt now. Stop pretending, will you?"

"Is Yang Qi really bankrupt?" Qin Shuang asked with feigned curiosity. It was obviously a deliberate jab.

Chen Chong chuckled. "Bankrupt is putting it lightly. I heard his woman cheated on him and ran off with another man. Man, his life is a complete failure."

"Hahaha, and to think back in university, the teachers all said Yang Qi had a promising future, always first in every subject. I can’t believe he’s ended up so pathetic!"

"Exactly! He didn’t even stop to consider his own standing before trying to start a business like other people. He deserved to go bankrupt!"

"If I were his woman, I’d have run off too!"

Yang Qi frowned. "Can’t you show a little decency when you speak? As far as I recall, I’ve never offended any of you. I’m not asking for your help or your sympathy. Just don’t kick a man when he’s down. We were all classmates; do you have to be so cruel?"

Qin Shuang sneered, "You’re blaming us for being cruel? Then grow a spine. I look down on you, so what? Are you going to bite me?"

Chen Chong also laughed. "This will get interesting when Miao Yue arrives. Back in university, Miao Yue had a crush on Yang Qi, but he rejected her, and they went their separate ways."

"I think Miao Yue is incredibly lucky. Thank goodness she didn’t get saddled with a guy like that, otherwise her life would have been miserable."

"Hahaha, you’re so right!"

Qin Shuang grew even more animated. "If Miao Yue knew she once chased a man like that, wouldn’t she be sick to her stomach? I’m suddenly thinking whoever invited Yang Qi to this reunion is a genius. This is going to be fun!"

The crowd roared with laughter.

"You’ve all gone too far," a timid voice suddenly interjected. It was a girl in glasses, their former class president, Yao Qing. In university, Yao Qing hadn’t been like this at all; she had been incredibly assertive. But after graduation, she had faced one setback after another, losing her confidence along the way. It took a great deal of courage for her to speak up for Yang Qi now.

"Yang Qi is still our classmate. We should be offering him our sympathy and comfort for what he’s been through. The way you’re all acting is truly awful," Yao Qing said, biting her lip.

Chen Chong smiled. "Well, this is no fun. Our great class president has spoken, so we’ll drop it. It was just a joke, no big deal." He gave a dismissive wave. "Alright, alright, that’s enough. Since Yang Qi is here, let him stay. It’s just a matter of adding a chair. However, Yang Qi, I have to remind you that I’m treating everyone, but that doesn’t include you. You’ll have to pay for your own share. You weren’t part of the plan, so there’s nothing to be done."

Qin Shuang sneered, "Yang Qi, Young Master Chen is treating all of us, but you have to pay for yourself. That’ll be at least one or two thousand, so try not to let it sting too much."

"Cut the crap. I can afford one or two thousand." Yang Qi frowned. How had I never realized before just how obnoxious Qin Shuang is?

"Haha, you’re right. Even a beggar can scrape together one or two thousand these days. But, ah, the seating is just perfect right now. If we’re adding a seat, I’m afraid you’ll have to be inconvenienced. There’s a little table by the door, why don’t you sit there? Consider it your own personal VIP seat," Chen Chong chuckled.

"Whatever. I didn’t come here for any of you anyway." Yang Qi gave a cold laugh, then waved a waiter over, took a chair, and sat down at the small table.

"I’ll sit with you!" Yao Qing declared.

Back in university, Yao Qing was always looking out for everyone. She was a truly good person. It’s a shame I barely interacted with her. Seeing her again now, I can see what a great girl she is.

"Yao Qing, think carefully," Chen Chong said coldly. "I was originally going to help you sort out your job situation. If you dare sit over there, don’t blame me for what happens next."

Yao Qing gritted her teeth. "Don’t think I don’t know! You’ve been sabotaging my career behind my back for years. All because I wouldn’t sleep with you back in university, right? Because I wasn’t as accommodating as Qin Shuang? Well, don’t ever expect me to give in. If worst comes to worst, I’ll just leave Thunder City!"

With that said, she walked over and sat down beside Yang Qi.

"Good! Very good! Yao Qing, you’ll regret this!" Chen Chong glared at her, his eyes filled with ice.

As she sat down, Yao Qing’s face fell. Saying she didn’t care was impossible; the girl was on the verge of tears.

Yang Qi glanced at her and said, "Don’t cry. Your crown will fall. Why waste tears on scum like him? Perhaps after this reunion, your luck is about to change."

"You don’t have to comfort me. I’m already prepared to leave Thunder City," Yao Qing sighed. "I love this city, but I have no choice. That guy Chen Chong has forced me out. My performance at the company is there for all to see. By rights, I should have been promoted with a raise long ago, but I’m still just an ordinary employee."

"I used to think it was just bad luck, but then I accidentally found out Chen Chong was sabotaging me behind the scenes. His family has a certain amount of influence in Thunder City."

Yang Qi handed Yao Qing a tissue and smiled. "Listen to me, you won’t regret it. You’ve met your lucky star here at this reunion. A smile broke through Yao Qing’s tears. "You really know how to comfort someone. But how would a person like me ever qualify for Qifei Group?"

"That’s not necessarily true," Yang Qi said with a mysterious smile.

Meanwhile, at the large table, the conversation had shifted to other topics.

"Young Master Chen, I heard you recently closed a huge deal, worth over a hundred million, right?" Qin Shuang couldn’t help but ask.
