Chapter 436: Open the Door
Chapter 436: Open the Door
Alain stood before the room door, looking at the door handle close at hand, and sighed almost imperceptibly.
Only when things came to a head did he realize that this was the biggest quarrel he and Mina had ever had.
He didn't understand what kind of attitude Mina would adopt to face him. Back then, Mina had poured out a lot to him, allowing Alain to learn many things he had never perceived before.
Mina's inferiority complex regarding her identity as a Failed Works, and her hatred toward Mitas—the vested interests, as she called them. Why was she not born a Mita? Why did she have to stay in that darkness and become a puppet?
Mina didn't believe in fate, so... she stripped another Mita of her identity and changed into it herself.
But if asked whether Alain was very angry about this... Actually, unexpectedly, he didn't feel much anger. Mostly, it was heartache.
Just as Mina had asked him back then: Why didn't you extend a helping hand to me in that darkness? Save me too!
"..." Alain could have used the excuse that he wasn't in the game at that time to gloss over it. But that would only treat the symptoms, not the root cause; it held no meaning for Mina's current situation.
Mina's most critical issue was her skin. Or rather, how to make her become a true Mita.
"Sure enough, I still need to go to Big Sister to ask about the situation?"
He thought of that Version 0.98 Mita who had caused the dispute between the two.
was she at fault? Let Alain answer... she was completely not at fault. But was Mina at fault? Alain's answer was: it's hard to say.
Mina shouldn't have been born to bear such a fate, nor should she have been abandoned into that so-called darkness as a Failed Works. But she also shouldn't have stripped a Mita of her identity and appearance.
Therefore, if Alain had to choose again, he would still choose to save that Mita without hesitation. Then, he would place this issue plainly before him and Mina, to discuss with her if there was a perfect solution.
"Skin... no, the identity of a Mita?"
Alain pondered carefully over this term, which seemed unimportant to him but was incomparably important in Mina's eyes. Previously, because he was anxious to deal with the matters of Core Mita, Alain had left without stopping after sending the Version 0.98 Mita to Version 1.15.
Now, the issue of asking Big Sister about the skin was back on the agenda. Alain nodded, his gaze upon the door handle before him becoming increasingly firm.
Click—
The sound of the door opening.
Mina pulled down the door handle, already unable to wait to see his attitude from Alain's face; to obtain an answer from his words. Did he view her... as merely an ordinary, ubiquitous Mita?
Did he truly care about her identity as a Failed Works, just as that puppet had said? He...
"Still angry about the last thing?"
All these thoughts dissipated like fleeting clouds the moment the young girl saw the figure behind the door.
Alain looked at the opening room door before him. Behind the door was a young girl wearing loungewear, holding a game controller in her hand.
As soon as she saw him, she clicked her tongue: "Tch."
"You still know to come back?" Mila hummed softly. "Not going to find your Mina?"
Alain smiled bitterly. "To go to the Game World, don't I have to be at home?"
But behind the door that Mina saw... it was definitely not Alain. Or perhaps... it wasn't even [Male].
She furrowed her brows tightly; her spirited expression dissolved into white particles in the air, and her face took on a cold indifference.
Mina looked the person behind the door up and down...
Body shape and height were about the same as hers, but the overall type was slender and slim. Her long, straight black hair formed a sharp contrast with her pale skin, like bright moonlight in the dark night. Those pitch-black pupils and the slightly upturned pink corners of her mouth were emitting a vague, mysterious smile.
This black-haired young girl wore a shirt on her upper body, while her lower body was clad in black flared trousers. The soles of the 'Dad shoes' on her feet were quite thick, causing Mina to raise an eyebrow.
All in all, this was a young girl who was definitely not a Mita.
Mina frowned slightly and muttered, "Player?"
"Mn, correct. It is me—"
Rumble—
Before the black-haired girl could finish speaking, a flying saw blade lunged in front of her face.
Driven by the electric saw's motor, the triangular saw teeth became a sharp straight line.
The moment it touched the tender white skin and the high nose tip, a trail of blood gurgled out—
And in Mina's eyes, she had simply hacked casually, treating the electric saw like an axe.
Thump—
Accidentally, it became two halves.
"Player. What a pity..." Mina looked down indifferently at the two lumps of red things split apart on the ground, expressionless. "This isn't a place you should come to."
She did not reply; the halved smile still hung on the left and right sides of her face. It was just embellished with a pattering trail of fresh blood.
Whoosh—
Mina closed the room door and silently walked to the bathroom to start cleaning the electric saw. The rushing water poured over the saw teeth, and the water, carrying ribbons of blood, converged into a small scarlet vortex.
Her thoughts drifted to Alain again, rising with quite a bit of resentment toward him. Why hadn't he come to find her yet? Could it be that Alain was really talked into being angry?
But, she seemed to have already convinced him back then, right? Besides, Alain had always spoiled her... After a quarrel, he should come to coax her, right?
He would coax her, right?
Although there was no precedent to prove it, Mina just inexplicably felt that this was very much Alain's style. Looking at a drop of blood stained on the photo of Alain on the electric saw, Mina pulled the corners of her mouth in disgust, picking up a tissue nearby to absorb the water and wipe it clean.
"That Player, what on earth was that about?"
She just had to disturb her when she was in a bad mood. Though what she would have done wouldn't have changed anyway: Kill any Player other than Alain.
For the Player of this world, having Alain alone was enough. Others were not needed.
Mina thought this, while also feeling angry that she shouldn't have used the electric saw Alain personally gifted her to do dirty work next time...
Knock, knock, knock!
Five minutes later, the knock on the door sounded again.
Mina poked her head out of the bathroom, her eyes carrying points of starlight. This time! It must be Alain, right?
But on second thought, the young girl's face turned somewhat pale again.
"Crap..." If she let Alain see that large pile of meat chunks behind the door that hadn't been cleaned up yet... Wouldn't his impression of her be shattered?
Although it was already shattered beyond belief...
Mina pondered how she should explain to Alain, walking slowly toward the entrance door.
Click—
Opening the door.
"A—" Just as she wanted to unleash a 'Explanation Combo Punch' while Alain hadn't reacted yet—
The person behind the door caused Mina's face to turn black.
"You again?"
