Chapter 38 Tony Enters the Game
Chapter 38 Tony Enters the Game
When the Holy Lord left the meeting room, the humility on his face vanished instantly.
The Holy Lord arrived at an empty room, took out his communicator, and dialed Tony's number.
"Mr. Stark, do you have a moment? Chief Fury needs to speak with you."
Tony's provocative voice came from the other end of the communicator: "Looks like you've joined S.H.I.E.L.D. now. I thought you wouldn't join this organization until it collapsed."
Shendu remained silent for a while, not responding. Tony had just mentioned the collapse of S.H.I.E.L.D., and he knew that Tony was now laughing at him.
"Don't joke around, Mr. Stark. Based on the information I currently have and S.H.I.E.L.D.'s network in this world, there is no organization that can dismantle S.H.I.E.L.D."
Tony's tone became defiant on the other end of the communicator: "Who knows? If we can't take down S.H.I.E.L.D. from the outside, who knows if there won't be problems within S.H.I.E.L.D.?"
Tony didn't wait for Shendu to continue and continued, "I already know about what Fury did at the board meeting, and I also know why he contacted me. My tampering with the facilities at S.H.I.E.L.D. last time probably already displeased him."
"So what are you planning to do, knowing there's a problem, yet still coming here?" The Holy Lord's tone was unreadable.
"Fury must be under psychological manipulation. Even if I go there now, there's not much he can do to me. After all, most of the equipment in S.H.I.E.L.D. is supplied by Stark Industries."
Tony paused as if thinking about something, then finally laughed and said, "With Fury's current abilities, he wouldn't dare to touch me. You're not here to persuade me, are you? I advise you not to waste your time."
"Also, I know he's using the Mind Stone to control you, but that trick won't work on me. I don't have a 'mind'."
After the call ended, the Holy Lord smiled. Tony was too clever. Clever people often die because of their own cleverness. They always think they have seen through everything, but they don't know that some traps are tailor-made for them.
Fury stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, looking down at the city below. New York's various roads were like knives, slicing the city open for him to enjoy.
A knock came at the door.
"Come in."
Coulson walked into the conference room, a stack of documents in his hand, his eyes revealing worry: "Director, regarding the two missile launches, the military sent an inquiry message saying they didn't receive any request for us to submit a request..."
"Burn it." Fury didn't take it to heart.
Coulson was stunned for a moment: "What?!"
Fury turned around, a cold glint in his single eye: "I said burn it, and then tell the military that SHIELD's internal affairs are none of their concern."
Coulson stood there, stunned, and did not immediately comply.
"Chief."
Coulson pondered the meaning behind Fury's words: "According to procedure, we do need to submit a report to the military. Skipping this step could trigger..."
"Coulson," Fury interrupted him, "how many years have you been with me?"
"Twelve years," Coulson replied after a moment's thought.
“Twelve years,” Fury repeated Coulson’s answer: “You should know from those twelve years that I’ve never needed anyone else to question my decisions.”
Coulson lowered his head and didn't reply; Fury in front of him felt like a stranger.
"I understand, I'll take care of it right away." Coulson closed the file, took a step back, and turned to leave.
"etc."
Colson stopped.
Fury's voice came from behind him: "Is Hill investigating something?"
Coulson stiffened: "She's just taking stock of resources, Chief."
"yes."
Fury walked over to Coulson and patted him on the shoulder: "Then tell her that's enough of the inventory. I'll be personally allocating the resources within SHIELD from now on, and she doesn't need to worry about it."
At the same time, at Stark Industries Building.
Tony stood in front of the worktable, the phone in his hand hovering in mid-air, not falling.
"Jarvis, access S.H.I.E.L.D.'s public communications records."
"Searching, sir."
Jarvis's voice echoed through the hall: "In the past 24 hours, S.H.I.E.L.D.'s communications with the military have dropped by 80%, while communications with the federal government have been completely shut down."
Tony frowned slightly: "Is Fury still blinded by the power of the Mind Stone?"
"Do you need me to hack into S.H.I.E.L.D.'s network system?" Jarvis asked.
Tony shook his head: "No need. Monitoring them too frequently will only attract Fury's attention."
Shortly after, Tony received another call from S.H.I.E.L.D. This time it was Coulson calling him: "Mr. Stark, I'm downstairs at Stark Industries. Director Fury has been waiting for a long time and sent me to pick you up."
Tony got into Coulson's car and joked, "So eager? Valon just called me, and you're already here to pick me up."
Coulson did not respond; he didn't know what Fury was thinking, nor how to answer.
The two remained silent the entire way, awkwardly arriving at the foot of S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters.
Tony entered S.H.I.E.L.D. with his hands in his pockets, tapping his right index finger lightly twice in his pocket, and heard Jarvis's voice in his ear.
"Signal normal, sir. There are 32 vital signs around you, most of which are concentrated around the corner in front of you."
Thirty-two.
Tony whistled, turned the corner, and saw Fury's office door wide open. Fury was sitting behind his desk, his hands crossed on the table.
Fury lowered his voice, looking quietly at Tony with his one eye, and said in a deep voice, "You've come."
"Of course I'm here," Tony said, walking into the office and looking around. "Where's Valon? Wasn't it that guy who called me? Why is he gone now?"
Fury stood up, walked around the desk, and headed towards Tony.
"He has other missions," Fury stopped in front of Tony. "Tony, I've called you here to discuss something with you."
Tony raised an eyebrow, feigning confusion: "What is it?"
"Hand over Stark Industries' new energy technology to S.H.I.E.L.D." Fury's words were very direct.
Tony was taken aback. He had thought Fury had called him here to ask him to explain the Stark Industries malfunction within S.H.I.E.L.D.
Tony couldn't help but laugh, a truly unrestrained laugh: "Do you know what you're saying?"
Fury stared intently at Tony: "Hand over the technology. Stark Industries doesn't need such a powerful energy source; it's a waste. But at S.H.I.E.L.D., this technology can protect the world."
"What if I refuse?" Tony's voice turned cold.
Fury clapped his hands, and the office door closed without warning. Jarvis's urgent voice rang in Tony's ears.
"Sir, thirty-two vital signs in the corridor are moving toward you. We advise you to flee immediately."
Tony felt someone pat him on the shoulder from behind, and Valon's voice reached his ears.
"It's nice to see you again, Mr. Stark."
