Xu Su changed out of her wrinkled loungewear, picked out a navy blue denim shirt dress, and quickly headed out the door.
Under the bright sun, she sped along in a bright red Ferrari, finally arriving at the Zhou Real Estate building.
Xu Su wasn’t wearing a mask. She walked through the main entrance and headed straight for the CEO’s private elevator, only to be promptly stopped by the diligent receptionist.
"Hello, ma’am. May I ask who you’re looking for?"
Xu Su: "..."
The momentum she had so carefully built up to chase after her man was instantly broken. Xu Su felt as if she’d been brought crashing back down to earth.
Somehow, the name "Zhou Mochen" just wouldn’t come out...
As she and the receptionist stared at each other, a hesitant voice came from behind her.
"Miss Xu?"
Xu Su turned at the sound of her name, her eyes brightening. ’An acquaintance!’
"I thought I was mistaken. I can’t believe it’s really you."
Li Li paused, then bowed slightly. "Are you here to see Mr. Zhou? He’s gone to the construction site in Lingdong District."
Xu Su knew a little about the Lingdong District project. It was a new resort. In her past life, not long after it was finished, Zhou Mochen had taken her there for a while.
The resort was far from the city, nestled by mountains and water, and even had a natural hot spring. It covered a vast area that included a horse-riding track. Upon completion, it became a members-only private resort. The average person couldn’t get in; its main selling points were privacy, an escape from the bustling city, and a return to nature.
Right now, however, it was just a construction site.
Xu Su wasn’t a great driver, so she didn’t dare to speed. To make matters worse, she had trouble following the GPS directions, which led to her taking an unnecessary detour. After driving for several hours, it was already evening when she finally arrived.
When she finally made it, she parked her car outside the construction site and prepared to walk in.
However, the old man guarding the gate saw a young woman like her and assumed she was just a curious onlooker. He stubbornly blocked her way, refusing to let her in.
"Go on, shoo," the old man said, waving his hand dismissively. "Do you even know what this place is? How dare you try to barge in?"
Xu Su pressed her palms together in a pleading gesture. "I know it’s a construction site. I’m just looking for someone. Please, Uncle, just let me in."
"If you know it’s a construction site, then you should be leaving! Do you have any idea what you’ll find the most of on a site like this? Men. Young men, at that, most of whom barely finished school."
The old man raised his eyelids and looked her up and down. "Places with this many men are a mess. A girl like you walks in there... they might not be able to control themselves. Whether they break the law or not..."
As if to prove his point, a group of workers suddenly emerged from a side gate. They were all shirtless, chatting and laughing boisterously. When a few of them glanced over and saw Xu Su, their eyes practically popped out of their heads.
"Holy crap, where’d this girl come from? Never seen her around here before."
"She’s here for Old Man Sun. Think she’s a relative of his?"
"Have you forgotten? Old Man Sun is a lifelong bachelor. We’ve never seen him with any relatives."
"She must be a fairy who fell from heaven. What’s she doing in a place like this?"
"I’ve never seen a girl this beautiful in my entire life. She puts movie stars to shame."
"Maybe she’s some boss’s mistress?"
Construction workers tend to have loud voices. They thought they were whispering, but Xu Su heard every single word.
She wasn’t wearing a mask, and her form-fitting denim dress, which ended above her knees, accentuated her figure. Xu Su could feel the four or five men in front of her shamelessly raking their eyes over her body, especially her exposed thighs. The intensity of their stares made her skin crawl.
She took a subtle step back, trying to decide whether she should run back to her car or run inside to find Zhou Mochen.
Li Li had said Zhou Mochen was here, but she had been delayed for hours. ’Would he really have stayed this long?’
’If Zhou Mochen isn’t in there...’
Xu Su made up her mind instantly. She turned to head back to her car, but as she did, she saw another man standing there. He wore a red hard hat, unlike the others.
When the man saw her turn, he was clearly stunned by her beauty. After a moment of shock, he smiled amicably. "Miss, what brings you to our site?"
"I’m looking for Zhou Mochen—your Mr. Zhou," Xu Su said. Seeing that his attire was different from the laborers’, she figured he must be a supervisor and relaxed a little. "He came this afternoon. Is he still here?"
"He is, hasn’t left yet. A group from management came to inspect the site this afternoon," the man in the red hat nodded, pointing toward the side gate. "Come with me. I’ll take you to him."
"Thank you." Xu Su’s eyes lit up, and she started to follow him. But as she moved, her gaze swept past Uncle Sun at the gate. She saw him frantically trying to signal her with his eyes. Her heart lurched, and she froze in her tracks.
"What’s wrong?" The man in the red hat turned back and urged, "Come on, this way..."
Xu Su glanced around. The four or five laborers were all staring at her with wide, hungry eyes. It was then she understood just how terrifying her situation was. As panic flared, she heard the old man beside her shout, "Run!"
’But where can I run?’
Xu Su couldn’t think. Before the men could react, she spotted an opening and bolted, breaking through their circle. Her body, normally unaccustomed to exercise, summoned a surprising burst of speed in the face of danger.
The men behind her hurled curses at the old gatekeeper as they took off after Xu Su.
If they missed this chance, they might never see a woman this beautiful again in their lives. As for committing a crime?
To die after being with a beauty like that... it would be worth it.
To hold a goddess like her for just one night... forget breaking the law, they’d willingly give up ten years of their lives for it.
Xu Su was thankful she’d worn flat white sneakers for driving. But even so, she started to slow down after running for less than two minutes.
She realized the opening she’d dashed through had led her deeper into the construction site!
She had walked right into a trap!

Panicked and sweating, Xu Su fumbled for the phone in her dress pocket as she ran. Before she could even unlock it, a hand shot out from behind her, snatched it away, and smashed it on the ground.
The limited-edition, rose-gold phone from Shen Chen shattered into pieces on the dusty, gravel-strewn dirt.
The next second, a hand seized her arm. A man’s vicious voice came from behind her. "Weren’t you looking for someone? I’ll take you to him. What are you running for?"
"Zhou Mochen! Zhou Mochen!"
The pull from behind was too strong. Xu Su struggled desperately, screaming Zhou Mochen’s name over and over, but no one came.
"Calling for your lover boy?" the man in the red hat sneered. "There’s no Zhou Mochen here."
Xu Su was terrified. "But you said people from Beijing came to inspect the site!"
"I didn’t lie. But this here is just a small, out-of-the-way corner of the site. It’s a huge place. You think the top brass are gonna come all the way out here to inspect under this blazing sun? So whether you’re really looking for someone or not, you can just give up that hope right now."
