Chapter 48: Wake up, everyone!

Tonight is destined to be a sleepless night. Conan is also having trouble sleeping tonight, for no other reason than the person sleeping soundly next to him.

It was a stormy night. As mentioned earlier, Ran is usually a timid girl, so she slept in the same bed with Conan, claiming that she was worried Conan would be too scared to sleep by the thunder.

The more Conan thought about it, the less his mind worked, and his face turned so red that he didn't hear a thing outside the window.

It wasn't until Conan instinctively sensed something was wrong and looked to the side that he realized something was amiss.

A black-robed man, his face completely wrapped in bandages and wielding a giant axe, was about to strike with deadly force.

Conan quickly kicked Ran away, causing the bandaged man's axe to miss its target.

Ran Mouri has an enviable quality of sleep, especially among young people who have developed bad habits and can't sleep at night. She was kicked and her bed was overturned by an axe, but she still didn't wake up.

After failing in his first attack, the bandaged man tried to finish him off, but Conan, who was holding him around the waist, stopped him and prevented him from succeeding.

However, Conan, dressed in his pajamas, was no match for a corgi in terms of fighting ability. Even if he unleashed his power at this moment, it wouldn't change the fact that he was still a primary school student. He was thrown away by the bandaged monster with a wave of his hand.

However, Conan quickly noticed that Akutagawa Hiko was acting strangely.

Akutagawa Hiko turned his head, and Conan was startled. What kind of eyes were those? Pure white eyes with a holy aura, but the bulging veins around the eye sockets looked slightly ferocious.

He rubbed his eyes again, and everything had returned to normal. Akutagawa Hiko's voice was filled with exhaustion: "We can't catch up."

Ryoichi Takahashi suggested calling the police first, but there was no signal at all. Upon closer inspection, he realized the phone line had been cut. Ryoichi ran out of the house crying, "Waaaaah!"

Thinking of the bandaged stranger still lingering near the villa, everyone felt a bad premonition and hurried back to the second floor of the villa.

Ryoichi Takahashi shouted back, "There's someone at the window downstairs!!"

Everyone turned to look, and saw the bandaged man, whom they had all met once before, and Chikako Ikeda, with a terrified expression, flash past the window.

Before anyone could chase after them, the lights inside the villa suddenly flickered, and then everything went dark...
