Chapter 30 New Equipment
Chapter 30 New Equipment
Chapter 30 New Equipment
It was another beautiful day. Peter Parker finished his day of study and celebrated his victory at the Detective Agency—the agency had successfully helped Spider-Man capture the thief, which made Peter feel much better after being scolded by Aunt May all night.
Then, Spider-Man arrived at Avengers Tower once again. The last rays of sunlight on the horizon refracted a golden-red light onto the building's glass facade, dazzlingly beautiful, just like his mood at that moment.
Although the two terrifying battles had practically ruined both of his uniforms, he had no choice but to find the parts that were still relatively intact and put them back on.
"Stop, soldier. If you go any further, you'll be within the warning zone."
Iron Man mimicked Captain America's serious voice, then his visor popped open, revealing Tony Stark's signature teasing smile. He chuckled and patted Peter on the shoulder: "You know what? Captain America always thought you were no good, that you were just a kid, that you'd be impulsive and all that. But you've proven yourself, haven't you? The idea of overload detonating the horror weapon was absolutely brilliant."
Peter laughed too, noticing that Tony Stark was wearing armor.
"Mr. Stark, what is the Avengers' mission?"
"Oh, right, we need to go to Africa to catch a smuggler named Ulysses Klaue. He has a huge amount of vibranium weapons." After saying that, Tony realized that Peter might not know who Ulysses Klaue was, so he added, "Captain's shield uses vibranium. He's supporting the Wakanda civil war so he can plunder local assets. We have to bring him back. The Krono Fighter has already taken off."
Peter did know Ulysses Klaue, the guy who lost an arm to Ultron in Avengers: Age of Ultron. In the comics, he's a supervillain called "Noise," and he also appeared in Black Panther. His weapon was a vibranium-powered noise generator attached to his severed arm, which he described as less thrilling than scary.
The Avengers' mission is probably not simply to arrest a smuggler; it's most likely related to vibranium and Wakanda, but that's beyond their control.
"We're going on a business trip anyway, and we won't be home. And coincidentally, I thought someone could help me look after this place." Tony said, leading Peter into Avengers Tower while picking up a pre-prepared card from the bar: "Avengers protect the world, and friendly neighbors protect New York. Your Avenger ID card, kid."
"Is this saying...?"
"Don't overthink it, kid. You're just a reserve at best," Tony laughed. "You still have a few more years to work on. Okay, take care of New York while we're gone. With this ID card, you can use all the facilities in Avengers Tower. Oh, and to prevent you from abusing it, you have to swipe your card every time you come in, and we'll know what you've been doing."
"I understand, Mr. Stark." Peter took the ID card, examined it closely, and then made his first request: "Could I use the technology here to make a uniform? My current suit, well, it offers no protection whatsoever, and it's all tattered."
"I told you, son, you can use all the devices."
Tony put on his visor as he spoke: "Ask Jarvis if you don't understand. I have to go catch up with the captain—"
"Um, there's one more thing, Mr. Stark."
Tony, who had already activated the thrusters and was preparing for takeoff, stopped and looked at Peter: "What?"
"I met someone who claimed to be a prophet, able to see my future, know my identity, and possess spider-like abilities similar to mine." To avoid interfering with the Avengers' mission, Peter summarized his experience in the simplest way possible: "She said that on the same day as me, another person gained spider-like abilities. This person is crucial because I will be traveling through the multiverse in the future, and I need this person as a beacon to return."
"Wow." Iron Man was stunned for a full three seconds before he could process all of this. "This is really... unusual. Regardless of whether it's true or not, if there's any possibility of another Spider-Man, the Avengers will investigate carefully."
Peter actually had a pretty good idea of who that person was. Speaking of the person who received their powers from the same spider as Peter Parker, it should be Cindy Moon, the "Spider Silk".
But here's the problem: whatever Cindy Moon is doing now, she's definitely not a student at Midtown Middle School; if she were, Peter would have been paying attention by now. At the same time, the possibility that it's not her needs to be considered, so after much thought, it's best to leave this matter to the Avengers.
Tony Stark's thoughts were quite simple—six months had passed, and there was still no news of the other Spider-Man user?
Needless to say, just find Nick Fury.
After watching Iron Man leave, Peter put away his Avengers ID card and then asked the entire house, "Where should I go to make a suit of armor?"
"The 3D printer is in the lab on the fifth floor, Mr. Parker."
Peter nodded and muttered to himself.
"Isn't five stories a bit too short for a building that only has a few floors at the top to house the Avengers?"
"Actually, the Avengers only consider the top five floors as the living quarters, Mr. Parker."
Peter chuckled. He needed to test out the new equipment so he could properly upgrade his suit.
"This is your new equipment, Mr. Snellyakov."
Dmitry Snergakov, codenamed Chameleon, is a former Russian Foreign Intelligence Service agent who defected to the United States after stealing camouflage equipment from the former Soviet Union. After spending all his CIA pay, he chose to use the camouflage technology to work for various underground organizations. Now, he has accepted Kingpin's invitation to an abandoned warehouse to test the gadgets Kingpin has prepared for him.
Dmitri squinted, clutching the tiny, probably three-centimeter-long sphere in his hand, and looked at Kingpin standing to the side: "Is this thing really as amazing as you say, Mr. Wesker?"
"Let my staff tell you about him. This is Quentin Baker, formerly one of Hollywood's best special effects artists."
Quentin Baker, a timid and thin man, kept nodding, as if agreeing with something. Quentin walked up to Dimitri, and after thinking for a while about how to explain the function of the object in his hand, he decided not to explain it and instead directly explained its usage.
"Press the middle button, then drop it on the ground, that's how it's used."
After Dimitri did as instructed, a miracle occurred, and a lifelike scene appeared before them. The warehouse, which had previously housed only a handful of people, now contained countless workers at work, and from any angle, there was no obvious trace of a projection.
"This is a light particle distortion technology, which is still imperfect. It can only be programmed and matched to the environment; it cannot operate in any location yet..."
Dimitri didn't want to hear this pointless scientific nonsense.
"What is the projection area?"
"A sphere with a radius of 100 meters, but it can only play pre-arranged images, and it must be projected within an appropriate range."
That's enough. Enough to deal with Spider-Man. Within a radius of 100 meters, he can easily impersonate Spider-Man and commit all sorts of crimes, ruining Spider-Man's reputation—sometimes defeating a superhero doesn't require actually defeating or killing him; making everyone think he's a criminal and a villain is also a way.
This was not difficult for the chameleon, who was already very familiar with it.
"Once the right setting is set up, I can get started. I'll ruin Spider-Man's reputation first, then lure him into a trap. The rest is up to you."
After finishing his sentence, Dimitri asked with some interest, "But I still want to ask, have you chosen a location yet?"
"I'm already looking for a suitable grave for Spider-Man."
Kingpin lit a cigar: "I've hired the best detective in all of New York, Mr. McDonald Gagan, and he'll choose the most suitable place to end Spider-Man's life."
