Chapter 80 Knowledge makes enemies
Chapter 80 Knowledge makes enemies
"The witch's power allowed her soul to change bodies, just like how we change clothes in our daily life." Said Ashok. He rose from the bed and began to slowly walked around.
The Duke, Cassius, and the Head Butler stood motionless, their frustration simmering beneath the surface. Yet, despite the tension, they had no choice but to listen.
"Now, just because we humans wear clothes to cover our bodies," he began, his tone casual but sharp, "does that mean we become one with the cloth? Or, to put it another way, do those few pieces of fabric become so entwined with our existence that we cannot live without them, once we've worn them?"
Ashok turned slowly, his gaze shifting from the Duke to Cassius and the Head Butler. He stood still for a moment, watching them, as if expecting some response but the three remained silent.
"How Boring?" muttered Ashok his breath before continuing, his voice louder and more deliberate.
"Well, the answer is obviously no. The clothes are necessities, yes, but do they become a part that defines our existence? Definitely not. We use them, we discard them, we change them at will. But we cannot throw away the body that wears the clothes.
In the same way, the witch's power allowed her to become a free soul, changing bodies like a simple necessity. But she couldn't change the reason for her existence—the body her soul was born with, her source, her original body.
Because it was the body that allowed her to manifest her supernatural power—the very trait that gave her strength, but also served as her weakness."
"What do you mean, body manifesting a soul-type supernatural?" asked the Head Butler, with a tone of disbelief.
He couldn't fathom the concept that Ashok had just laid out—that the witch could change bodies by manifesting her soul.
Until now, he had assumed that the soul merely transferred automatically after the witch killed someone, where killing served as a trigger, but this idea was entirely different, far beyond what he had believed possible.
"The body provides mana or aura and can help in manifesting elemental or physical soul traits. But how can it help with a power related to the soul? How can the body aid in manifesting the soul itself? It is simply... Not Possible."
He crossed his arms, a look of finality on his face as if he had already come to a conclusion.
"If you think of it that way," Ashok said, his tone playful, "then have you ever seen someone possessing a soul trait related to ice, wind, or earth elements when their body only has an affinity for fire?"
The Head Butler stood still, his mind racing as he tried to recall everything he knew about soul traits and elemental affinities.
His thoughts turned inward, searching for any instance, any case where someone could wield two different types of affinities—one through the body and one through the soul.
But no matter how hard he tried to dig through the vast knowledge he had accumulated over the years, he found nothing.
The Head Butler's eyes suddenly widened, a flicker of realization igniting within him. He stood frozen for a moment, as Ashok's words began to fall into place, unraveling the pieces of the puzzle in his mind.
"What's so hard about the question? The answer is simple. If you can't obtain something normally, you find another way to make it yours. The witch came here to serve as a link for another soul to possess your daughter's body." Said Ashok.
The Duke's face went pale, his heart pounding as the realization began to creep in. "Do you mean there is another witch inside my daughter's body?"
"No!" Ashok answered firmly, cutting through the Duke's rising panic.
The Duke's confusion only deepened as he looked at Ashok, his eyes filled with a mix of desperation and disbelief. He couldn't make sense of what the healer was implying—what game Ashok was playing with him.
"The witch used her powers as a link to connect another soul, but that soul didn't belong to any witch. Then why would the witch use her power for someone else?" asked the Duke's voice, his voice filled with confusion.
"Though I hate witches in general," Ashok continued, his tone shifting as he leaned back slightly, "I will admit, there is one specific quality they possess that sets them apart from most humans.
They don't have a thirst for power. Unlike humans, who are often driven by an insatiable hunger for more, witches are born with power. They don't need to chase it. Instead, they seek to master it, to understand it, and use it to its fullest potential."
"If they don't have a thirst for power, then why did they harm my daughter?" The Duke's voice trembled, his eyes narrowing with a mix of confusion and raw emotion.
"For the Ideal passed down by the Witch Queen, the witches possess power, but they are few in number. The meaning is simple—they already have quality, but they lack in quantity. Their strength is immense, but their numbers are limited, so they seek to increase that number in any way they can.
If another witch tried to possess your daughter's soul, their number would still remain the same. Because the witch who fully possessed her would lose her original body. The numbers wouldn't change. So, instead of trying to possess your daughter's soul themselves, they made a different choice.
Ashok turned toward the Duke's daughter, her frail form lying motionless under the blanket. The translucent curtains surrounding the bed swayed gently in the still air.
"They let something else - take over your daughter." declared Ashok.
"What do you mean something else?" The Duke couldn't help but ask, his voice trembling with unease, sensing the ominous weight behind Ashok's words.
