Chapter 45 Flitwick's Heart Flutter
Chapter 45 Flitwick's Heart Flutter
Xilun truly felt that staying at school for the holiday was the right decision.
It was as if the troll knew it was Christmas Day and gave him a little surprise before nightfall.
The fusion spell has lost its effect, which means that the troll's spine has truly become a usable staff core.
Although it still looks a bit big, it doesn't matter. Xilun had already anticipated this situation and specially prepared a staff with a shaft of over two feet, just the same size as the core.
I thought I would have to make some changes, but it doesn't need to now.
Next, it's time to officially begin making the wand.
But it was too late, and at Hagrid's insistence, Siren could only forcibly grasp the restless hand and leave the cabin, looking back every few steps.
Hagrid saw Siren out the door.
He didn't mind if Siron stayed, since the sound Siron made while making the wand was not as loud as Yaya's snores, and it wouldn't affect him at all.
But Professor McGonagall checks the dormitories at night.
There was no such rule before, but this year is a special case. After all, there are two Weasleys among those who stayed on campus, so Professor McGonagall has to pay more attention.
However, seeing Siren's reluctant expression, Hagrid hesitated and turned to look into the house.
A few minutes later, he put on the mole-skin coat and hurriedly chased after them.
Dinner was turkey sandwiches and toast with cranberry sauce, which tasted great and everyone enjoyed it.
Only Xilun was preoccupied with the staff body and core he had already completed, and didn't care at all what he had eaten.
At the teachers' table, Dumbledore fiddled with a brown wand, turning it over and over, while Professor McGonagall chuckled happily beside him.
"I tried it, and it's really great," Professor McGonagall couldn't help but glance at the dazed Siron. "Except for not being able to use it with my first wand, it's perfect in every way, like a new hand."
"Is hair-core really that amazing?" Dumbledore exclaimed in amazement.
Logically speaking, a wizard like Professor McGonagall shouldn't rely on wands as much anymore; she could even cast spells without a wand.
But Professor McGonagall was still happy all day, and Dumbledore noticed that she used magic much more often today, and even the small spells that she could usually do easily were done with the new wand that Celeste had given her.
"It's amazing," Professor McGonagall said. "It feels like part of the body, and even some of the simpler spells don't require incantations."
"A silent spell?" Professor Flitwick asked from the side. "That should be very simple for you."
"It's still different." Professor McGonagall shook her head. "It's not that you don't need to say the incantation, but that you don't. The magic is already complete when you have the thought in your mind."
"Really?" Professor Flitwick's eyes widened in surprise.
As a seasoned duelist, he instantly understood what Professor McGonagall meant.
The fact that no incantation is needed means that the spellcasting process can be completed instantly. If Professor McGonagall were to duel, she would definitely gain the upper hand and give her opponent no chance to retaliate.
As for Professor McGonagall's statement that only simple spells can ignore the spell's incantation... Professor Flitwick simply ignored it.
Even using only the simplest knockback spell, he was confident he could suppress his opponent until the end.
"If I pay for it, Mr. Ollivander shouldn't feel offended, right?" Professor Flitwick was somewhat tempted, but not quite sure what Siren was thinking.
The main reason was that he knew Garrick Ollivander when he was young and knew how stubborn that guy used to be, making wands only according to his mood and preferences... until he took over the wand shop in Diagon Alley.
"This..." Professor McGonagall stammered without answering.
Would Xilen feel offended? She didn't know and couldn't answer that.
But...
Professor McGonagall looked down and glanced casually at the top of Flitwick's head.
As is well known, Professor Flitwick has some fairy blood, and fairies usually don't have much hair.
I don't know if that's the reason, but Professor Flitwick's hair looks... well, not very thick.
Professor McGonagall wasn't entirely sure if they met the requirements for wand cores, after all, her wand was nearly twelve inches long.
On the other side, Dumbledore thoughtfully adjusted his glasses, only to spot an unexpected person peeking furtively from the Great Hall entrance.
"Hagrid?" Dumbledore exclaimed in surprise, and took the initiative to walk over and lead him in.
"I'm so glad you didn't refuse my invitation to dinner this time. Christmas is all about being together." Dumbledore smiled and pointed to an empty seat next to him, gesturing for Hagrid to sit down first.
That spot was supposed to be Snape's, but he didn't come today.
Hagrid was somewhat flustered. For some reason, he had been expelled from Hogwarts by the Ministry of Magic for "negligence in controlling dangerous creatures" and had his wand broken.
Only Dumbledore was willing to believe him and even gave him a job.
So Hagrid is usually reluctant to come to the castle, let alone dine with the professors... He doesn't want to cause trouble for Dumbledore.
He came to see Xilun and had no intention of staying for dinner.
Dumbledore was just too enthusiastic, and by the time Hagrid realized what was happening, he had already taken Snape's seat.
"What would you like to eat? How about a turkey sandwich? I must admit, the house-elves have really roasted far too many turkeys," Dumbledore said, mostly jokingly.
Hagrid naturally had no objections.
"You should come often; the gamekeeper is also a member of Hogwarts," Dumbledore continued. "You are qualified to dine in the Great Hall with everyone."
Hagrid pretended not to hear.
To reiterate, he didn't want to cause trouble for Dumbledore.
Moreover, he didn't really like crowded places. Wizards hated giants, and their attitude towards him, a half-giant, wasn't very good either. Most of the young wizards looked at him strangely and felt very uncomfortable.
Of course, Siren and Harry are different.
Hagrid sat next to Dumbledore and barely managed to finish his awkward dinner.
As soon as the food on the plate disappeared, he couldn't wait to say goodbye to Dumbledore, get up and leave, and as he passed by Sheron, he stuffed a brown paper bag into his arms.
"This is what you left with me. Don't forget it again next time," Hagrid said.
Siren didn't react for a moment. When he looked up, Hagrid was winking at him.
Hagrid is actually really bad at lying. His attempts to cover up his lies and his stiff tone were so obvious that even Harry could tell something was off.
However, Hagrid didn't give them a chance to ask questions. After handing the items to Siron, he left the Great Hall directly.
Xilun subconsciously opened the bag, and a familiar white color came into view...
"What's inside?" Ron asked curiously, peeking out.
"It's nothing." Xiren casually closed the bag. "I asked Hagrid for a few rock breads, but I forgot to take them when I came back."
"Rock-skin cake..." Ron couldn't help but frown, as if recalling some unpleasant experience. "That stuff is as hard as a rock, you can't bite into it at all, and you actually went out of your way to ask him for it?"
"Ah, yes, I recommend you try it, it's delicious," Xilun said absentmindedly.
"I think I'll pass." Ron covered his mouth, instantly losing interest in the bag.
