Chapter 134 Course Selection, The Three-Headed Dog Grows Older
Chapter 135 Course Selection, The Three-Headed Dog Grows Older
Unlike the relaxed and enjoyable Christmas holidays, during the Easter holidays, professors seem to have piled up a century's worth of homework all at once.
Therefore, almost no one chose to go home for the holiday; everyone chose to stay at school.
And for second-grade students, there's another important matter this Easter: choosing their third-grade courses, a task many consider a serious matter.
For example, Hermione had been sketching on that parchment for two hours, unable to make up her mind, and there were always time conflicts with the courses she chose.
"If you take one less course, everything will be solved, right?" Ron pointed out the crux of the problem, but Hermione ignored him.
Ron shrugged and continued looking at his parchment.
"Divination, numerology, protecting magical creatures, ancient runes, Muggle research—"
"That's strange, why isn't there Potions class?" Harry asked. "I just want to give up Potions class, even if it means taking five more classes."
"Don't think about it anymore, you have to keep taking your old subjects," Hermione said, peeking to the other side. "Sirlen, what did you choose?"
Xilun casually pushed the parchment in front of him to her; it was already marked.
"Divination, Protecting Magical Creatures, Ancient Runes." Ron glanced at it and said in surprise, "Siron, why did you choose three courses? Did you make a mistake?"
Professor McGonagall said we only need to choose two of them.
"You need to choose at least two," Siren corrected. "And both 'occupying' and 'protecting magical creatures' are relatively easy courses."
Even if I choose all of them, it won't be tiring.
"An easy course—" Ron's eyes lit up, "Just like History of Magic?"
"It's not that easy either," Celen said.
The professor of the history of magic is a ghost. They can do other homework, play chess, or sleep in class, as long as they don't make a sound.
But Ron didn't care about any of that anymore and immediately marked the place to occupy and protect the magical creature.
He chose those two subjects.
Harry thought about it and made the same choice as Ron.
Hermione, on the other hand, simply chose all the courses.
"Are you crazy?" Ron's voice rose considerably. "I can accept anything else, but Muggle research? Excuse me for being blunt, didn't you figure it out before school started?"
"But from a wizard's perspective, it's a very interesting thing," Hermione said.
“That’s right.” Percy, who was acting as an advisor, nodded. “Wizards should have a comprehensive understanding of the non-magical world, especially those who want to work closely with Muggles.”
Only Hermione listened to those words.
Although Harry felt he would most likely find a similar job after graduation, he already knew a lot about Muggles.
There's no need for him to study any further. After all, his aunt and uncle are both Muggles.
To what extent? Harry thought that if Muggles studied this course and there were books, the Dursleys' picture could be printed on the cover as an illustration.
Xilun didn't care; he didn't need to find another job.
Moreover, while it was said to give wizards a comprehensive and thorough understanding of the non-magical world, in reality, the Muggle studies professors at Hogwarts knew absolutely nothing.
Professor Kerridine Boubagi, like Mr. Weasley, is merely a Muggle enthusiast. Only part of her knowledge of Muggles is true; the rest is just her own imagination.
Unlike Mr. Weasley, Professor Bubbage respects Muggle technology and knowledge and does not attempt to transform them into magical creations.
In addition, she is willing to learn about the Muggle world and is said to have obtained graduation certificates from three famous British universities. She has also published articles in the Daily Prophet opposing the theory of pure-blood superiority and emphasizing that wizards of Muggle origin are equally excellent.
Professor Bubbaje's professional abilities may not be as outstanding as Professor McGonagall's or Professor Flitwick's, but he is still the most suitable candidate.
Because she truly understood the Muggle world from a wizard's perspective, rather than simply introducing what the Muggle world was like and how to use those things—something Babuji considered a tour guide's job.
Of course, this still doesn't change the fact that Muggle Studies is the least popular course, ranking only ahead of Ancient Runes.
This was also the first course that Xilun excluded.
After lunch, Xilun went to visit Hagrid again, intending to stock up on suitable materials for the Easter holiday.
Hagrid initially didn't want to take Siren to the Forbidden Forest again; too many people stayed on campus during the Easter break, making it look like the school hadn't even had a holiday.
Unlike at Christmas, the entire castle was empty.
Hagrid only agreed when Siren suggested they could visit Lu Wei while they were there.
Cerberus has a strong ability to recover, and the whiskers that were plucked last time have already grown back. Siren didn't hold back either and plucked three more when Hagrid wasn't looking.
The three-headed dog, Luwei, didn't care. He was still thinking about having another delicious meal and treated Celen very well.
It's just plucking a whisker; it won't hurt a thick-skinned Cerberus.
"Hagrid, I feel like Luwei has grown even bigger." Celen asked, tilting his head back. "That's normal," Hagrid said. "Luwei is already two years old, which means he's entered the developmental stage. Recently, he's been eating a lot more, and the centaurs keep coming to me saying that Luwei has stolen their prey."
"They acted as if the Forbidden Forest belonged to them—"
Hagrid disliked centaurs because he considered the Forbidden Forest to be Hogwarts property, as it had been since the school's founding a thousand years ago.
Hagrid disliked the centaurs' bandit-like behavior, so he wouldn't care whether Luwe stole their prey.
"Developmental stage—." Xiren looked up at the three-headed dog, which was already nearly eighteen feet tall, and clicked his tongue, meaning that this thing could still grow longer.
Twenty feet? Or thirty feet? It can't possibly grow to fifty feet tall like a fire dragon, that would be too terrifying. Xilun stroked Lou Williams' chin and casually pulled off another whisker.
"Does it usually stay in the forbidden forest?"
"certainly."
"Is there enough food for it around here?" Xiren asked.
"You don't need to worry about that, there's plenty of food in the Forbidden Forest," Hagrid said. "I usually feed it some meat too."
"It's just that this nest seems a bit too small," Hagrid suddenly sighed. "It's becoming less and less fond of coming home. Every time I bring food, I have to call Ruggie back first."
"Can Louie hear you calling it?"
"Sometimes," Hagrid said, "but if it goes too far, I'll have to use the whistle."
"A whistle?" Xilun looked over curiously.
"This is it." Hagrid pulled a crudely made stone whistle from his pocket. It was obviously something he had made himself.
"When Luwei was a puppy, I often sang to him to sleep. He loved music, so I made this whistle."
"But it doesn't like it anymore, and it won't sleep when it hears music." Hagrid looked a little disappointed. "But it still recognizes the whistle, and it will come back when it hears the sound."
Xilun smiled awkwardly and said nothing more.
Lou Williams's inability to sleep when he hears music is largely due to him, but then again, this also helps Lou Williams overcome a weakness.
After staying there for a while and feeding all the moose meat they had brought, Hagrid took Siron back.
"Hagrid, have you seen any other professors lately?" Celen asked casually as they walked along the forest path.
"Professor Sprout came by yesterday," Hagrid said. "She was going to collect some plants and then gather some bento-like fertilizer from the Moonfoxes."
"What about the other professors?" Siron continued, "like Professor McGonagall."
"No, not at all." Hagrid shook his head without hesitation. "Actually, apart from Professor Sprout and Professor Snape, other professors rarely come to the Forbidden Forest. What's wrong? Do you need her for something?"
"No, I was just asking," Xilun said, sounding somewhat disappointed.
He was hoping to find the bottle through Hagrid, but it seemed Professor McGonagall already knew about his relationship with Hagrid and didn't give him that chance.
