Megure gritted his teeth, suppressing his anger, and turned to look at Conan.
"Are there any other witnesses?"
Chapter 229 I'm an Expert
“Mr. Nakajima should have seen it too.” Conan looked at someone behind him. “Mr. Nakajima, do you remember the man in black who bumped into you in the corridor?”
"Bumped into me?" Nakajima's expression changed drastically, but he immediately denied it, saying, "I've never seen someone like that before."
"who are they?"
Seeing the change in Nakajima's expression, Matsuda immediately knew that there must be something wrong, and secretly asked Megure, who was standing next to him.
"The three of them were the witnesses at the scene of the explosion. Like Conan, they were the people who were closest to the scene at the time."
Megure adjusted his hat, suppressing his displeasure with Matsuda, and answered in a low voice.
"They are all members of the development department of Mantian Games Company, named Hideaki Nakajima, Koji Ueda, and Hironobu Takeshita respectively."
So, these three people are the key figures in this explosion?
Matsuda looked at them with pity. Of all people to associate with, they had to get involved with Conan, the Grim Reaper. It would be strange if a case didn't occur!
"By the way," Matsuda swallowed the last bite of rice ball, "Conan, how did you know the victim was from Kansai?"
"Because that uncle said some strange things in the toilet."
"Like something like 'Why can't I put it in?' or 'Oh, it's not closed properly,'"
Conan explained,
"I think he must be referring to the toilet door."
Is it the toilet door?
Matsuda entered the exploded toilet, searching for the source of the explosion.
"Officer, could you please excuse me?"
Just then, a fat man with a sleazy appearance poked his head out from outside.
"I am Ishikawa, the president of Mantendo University."
As the fat man spoke, he walked up to Megure and took an envelope from his briefcase.
“Someone sent this strange letter three days ago.”
"A strange letter?"
Megure picked it up casually, glanced at it, and then read it aloud in surprise.
"Cancel the press conference, or we will take necessary measures! Is this a threatening letter?"
He immediately raised his head and angrily questioned Ishikawa.
"Why weren't we notified the police after receiving such a letter?"
"I thought someone was just trying to scare me," Ishikawa said, sounding a little unsure. "I never expected something like this to happen."
"I have to say, your awareness of prevention is really lacking," Matsuda complained. "If you had notified the police earlier, this might not have happened today."
"Yes, it's our fault," Ishikawa said with a forced smile, wiping the sweat from his forehead.
"By the way, President Ishikawa, what is this?"
Matsuda waved a curved, round piece of metal with a red "M" printed on it in his hand.
"This looks like the same logo as the one on the suitcase you're carrying."
“Oh, that’s our company logo,” President Ishikawa replied, holding up his briefcase.
"That's it."
Matsuda hesitated for a moment, then said to Megure,
"Immediately check the briefcases of all their employees; that will clarify some things."
"What is it? Matsuda, do you know who the murderer is?" Inspector Megure asked expectantly.
"It's hard to say yet, these are just some guesses."
Matsuda gave Inspector Megure a perfunctory answer, then bent down and asked Conan with a smile,
"Little brat, tell your uncle, did the victim bring in a briefcase that is unique to President Ishikawa's company?"
"Yes!"
Conan grinned, then, feigning a mischievous look, asked in a strange voice,
"Uncle Matsuda! How did you know?"
Strange, I shouldn't have told Matsuda about this, right?
Conan was somewhat surprised.
"Do you need to tell me? Of course, that's what I saw."
Matsuda put the bent Mantek emblem he found at the scene into his bag and casually handed it over to the forensics department.
Then, he pulled out a leather shoe. He pointed to the sole.
"As a criminal investigator, you often encounter stalkers and eavesdroppers, right?"
I watched as Matsuda put the leather shoes into the evidence bag and had the forensic team take them away.
Conan could only manage a couple of dry laughs. There were marks on the sole of the shoe where a listening device had been inserted.
Matsuda's words were clearly a warning to Conan.
"Matsuda, what did you say about a stalker? Is there something else going on in this incident?" Megure asked, puzzled.
"No, I just made it up." Matsuda waved his hand. "By the way, judging from what Mr. Nakajima said, he didn't seem to know the victim?"
"Then why would the victim be carrying a briefcase from the Full Paradise Company? And why would they go to a secluded place like the toilet?"
"Well..." Inspector Megure pondered for a moment, "Could he be making some kind of deal with someone?"
"It seems possible that he was blown to pieces by the box he received after the deal," Matsuda replied.
"Impossible!" Conan immediately retorted, "He was clearly killed by a bomb planted behind the toilet door..."
At this point, Conan suddenly stopped, the two sentences that person said before he died flashing through his mind.
Why can't I put it in?
"Oh, it wasn't closed!" he immediately realized. "So, he wasn't talking about the toilet door before he died, but about the box he was holding?"
“That’s right,” Matsuda nodded. “Hehe, that’s why you said to check all the staff’s briefcases, because one of the murderer’s briefcases was torn to pieces along with the victim’s!”
Conan immediately understood Matsuda's purpose in asking Megure to inspect the briefcases of the Mantendo Company employees.
hateful!
While I was desperately searching for clues, this guy had already narrowed down the suspect's range!
"I see, Brother Matsuda, I'll take care of it right away."
After hearing Conan's explanation, Inspector Megure hurriedly searched the briefcase.
After he left, Conan, taking advantage of the fact that no one was paying attention, approached Matsuda and was about to kick him when...
But he kicked at nothing and almost fell down himself.
hateful!
I knew running into Matsuda would never end well!
Conan muttered to himself before finally asking the question.
"Hey, how did you know? Don't play dumb with me! You know what I'm asking."
"Please, you haven't forgotten, have you? I used to be the ace of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team of the Security Department's Mobile Unit?"
Matsuda said irritably,
"Even though it was in such a small space, I can tell whether the source of the explosion was at the toilet entrance or inside the toilet with just a glance."
Damn it, I forgot, this guy used to be a bomb disposal expert!
Conan, unusually humbled, asked, "In this situation, how do we determine the source of the explosion?"
“It’s very simple,” Matsuda explained casually. “If the explosion was caused by pushing open the toilet door, then the shock wave from the explosion would definitely push the victim in the opposite direction.”
Chapter 230 Taking advantage of the situation
"But at the scene, only so much flesh was left, which clearly indicates that the explosion occurred right next to the victims."
"As for how I guessed it was a box, don't forget, the victim said, 'Why couldn't it be put in?'"
"Given his situation at the time, he couldn't possibly be planning to put something in the toilet, could he?"
Matsuda chuckled and said something, then took out another key.
"This is what I found at the scene. It should be the key that came with the suitcase that the victim received after the transaction."
"Look closely at this badge. Doesn't it have a noticeable curve?"
As Matsuda spoke, he handed the key to Conan.
"Heh, so that's how it is..." Conan curled his lip in dissatisfaction. "If I could find the key, I could find all of this too."
"So now, by simply checking each of their suitcases, we can find out who made the deal with the victim. And that person is very likely the murderer."
Matsuda frowned, but he still felt that things weren't that simple.
"But if the transaction involves an organization like the one you described, then the person making the transaction probably wouldn't have the guts to kill someone during the transaction, would they?"
"Besides, it's his own company. Even if he's confident the police won't find out, isn't he afraid of retaliation from the Black Organization?"
"That's right, there are indeed many doubts when you put it that way."
Conan nodded in agreement.
and many more!
