Chapter 9 Debate
Chapter 9 Debate
"Ms. Chloe?"
When she received no response for a long time, Navelette became somewhat uneasy.
In fact, Chloe was just taking the time to organize her thoughts.
After all, they had been pen pals for so long, so her understanding of Navelette was not bad, if not very deep.
This guy may seem reliable, calm, and all-powerful, but in reality, it's just because he's ridiculously naive. He has no idea what others are thinking, and naturally, he can't react to other people's thoughts.
But if she were to directly tell Navelai the criticisms he had received, he might be shocked at first, and then start to look for problems within himself, without realizing that it was just those people's malice.
Although the police force was just an excuse, Chloe didn't want to become the fuse that would damage Navelette's reputation, nor did she want Navelette to know about these sordid things.
Therefore, she simply said, "No, Lady Vilette. Pure White Lily of the Valley hasn't appeared during this time. I was just wondering if she had given up because she was afraid."
Navelette frowned disapprovingly: "Even so, we can't let our guard down. Perhaps she's just more patient than you think. If she wants to see me next time, you can have the security agency convey the message. I'll come to you instead of risking my life alone."
"Don't worry, I value my life a lot. I asked some security personnel to come with me," Chloe said cheerfully, trying to break the serious atmosphere. "I was just thinking that since the Pure White Lily of the Valley hasn't shown up, isn't it a waste to have so many security units? Perhaps you could transfer some of them?"
"Besides, no matter what, they're starting to affect my daily life. It's really unpleasant to see so many big guys standing outside my window," she casually made up.
Navelette didn't realize she was talking nonsense; in fact, she thought the question was very important.
In his view, humans are fragile beings, and their moods can also affect their physical condition.
If Chloe hadn't been injured by the Pure White Lily of the Valley, but instead fell ill from being cooped up by the security forces she had sent out, then that would have been putting the cart before the horse.
But he was uneasy about actually removing all the security forces.
After a brief moment of consideration, Navelette still chose to refuse: "I'm sorry, Ms. Chloe, but for your safety, could you please bear with me for a while?"
If one plan fails, Chloe has another.
However, since it was a backup plan that she never intended to use from the beginning, it did have a small flaw, specifically—well, it was a bit shameless.
Chloe, suppressing her shame, spoke the words she had prepared beforehand: "But I really can't stand it anymore, Lady Vilette. These past few days I've been stuck at home, surrounded by cold, impersonal guards. I feel so utterly alone. How I wish someone could come and keep me company!"
She deliberately spoke these words in a high-pitched voice, making them extremely affected and pretentious.
Villette's expression remained unchanged, only her eyes showed a slight bewilderment: "Ms. Chloe, is your throat feeling uncomfortable?"
His words successfully shut down what Chloe was about to say.
"Uh..." She was also at a loss.
Indeed, the methods used to deal with ordinary people cannot be applied to Vilette.
Chloe could only switch back to her normal voice and calmly finish what she hadn't said: "What I mean is, the security agencies are definitely not as reliable as human agents. Didn't we have that case before where someone wore a puffy beast costume to evade the security agencies and commit a crime?"
This incident was so outrageous that it even made it into the Steambird newspaper.
Villette's expression was indescribable, as if he wanted to explain something, but Chloe had no intention of giving him a chance to speak, and continued quickly, "Instead of wasting so many security agencies here, why not arrange for real people to help?"
"I have indeed redeployed some of the security forces to strengthen patrols in your area..."
"No, that's not what I meant." Chloe shook her head. "I meant it would be better to have a bodyguard stay at my house. Close protection would be much more reliable than the current method, and it would save a lot of manpower."
What she said made sense, so Villette followed her lead and began to consider who could possibly be competent for the task.
He thought of Clorind, the powerful dueling agent.
Before he could recommend it to Chloe, she took a few steps closer, almost pressing herself against him.
"Perhaps Lady Vilette would be willing to do me this favor?" To achieve her goal, Chloe suppressed the goosebumps rising on her arms and spoke in a teasing tone, "After all, the Pure White Lily of the Valley incident started because of you. I'm not satisfied with the way the security agency handled it; you should take responsibility and come to my house to help me. With your abilities, this should be a piece of cake, right?"
"By the way, my house only has one bedroom—"
At first, Violet didn't understand why she would suddenly bring up the number of bedrooms in her house. By the time he belatedly realized the hidden meaning in her words, Chloe was already tired of posing.
At this moment, she was trying her best to stand on tiptoe because of the significant height difference between the two.
She went to great lengths to maintain this posture, even secretly placing one hand on the table behind Villette for support.
This pose is extremely contorted and puts a lot of strain on her waist.
Chloe kept her hands on her chest while secretly rubbing her lower back with her other hand.
Fortunately, Navelette's reaction was quite good; she could clearly see that this usually expressionless man's face gradually turned red. However, the Supreme Judge's majesty remained, and apart from his flushed face, his voice was still calm and composed.
"I'm sorry, Ms. Chloe. The work at Moman Palace is very demanding, and I can't help you."
Although it was just an excuse, neither of them cared, since Chloe only wanted him to panic for a moment.
In her opinion, naive and inexperienced people like Navelette are the easiest to fool at times like this.
She feigned anger, raising her voice, "This isn't allowed, that isn't allowed. I'm the victim, don't I have the right to make even this small request?"
As Navelette expected, he was helpless when Chloe made a scene.
As the saying goes, if you know you'll be rejected for suggesting opening a window, suggest opening the roof instead; then people will settle for opening the window instead.
In addition to her reasoned arguments and Pure White Lily's recent low profile, Vilette indeed felt that the demand to remove the guard agency was quite reasonable.
"In that case, it will be as you say, Ms. Chloe. However, just in case, I will still leave one at your door."
He was still somewhat worried.
However, this result was much better than the initial one, and Chloe was quite satisfied, so she happily agreed.
