Chapter 10 Kraft, the Forgotten Savior
Chapter 10 Kraft, the Forgotten Savior
The central square of Grayate was covered with snow, and the cold wind swirled with ice shards.
Lynn tightened his collar and walked straight to the center of the square.
Nan Yong's statue stands there.
Unlike the elegant bronze statue in Fabel Village, the Southern Warrior statue here is carved from black rock with rough and rugged lines.
The statue depicts Nan Yong with his hands on his sword, leaning forward, maintaining a posture ready to charge.
Lynn stopped in front of the statue.
There weren't many people around; after all, in this awful weather, even stray dogs had hidden in the alley.
He placed his palm directly on the cold rock surface.
hum.
A familiar tremor shot up my arm and straight to the top of my head.
[Statue of "Hero of the South" detected, power resonance... Synchronization initiation...]
[Physical functions have been further enhanced.]
Dual-wielding style has been improved.
[Future vision has been improved]
[Current ability acquisition progress: 15%]
Lynn clenched his fist, his knuckles cracking.
The growth of power is not an explosive expansion, but a natural and gradual filling.
If the body was a piece of refined iron before, it has now been forged into something even more refined.
What's even more interesting is that new skill.
"call--"
Suddenly, a heavy sigh came from the side.
Lynn turned her head to the side.
On the other side of the statue, a tall, elven man dressed in a monk's robe is admiring the statue of Nan Yong.
Lynn recognized the face.
Kraft!
That ancient hero who was very likely from the same era as Celie.
"Young man, do you admire this guy with dual swords?"
I guess so.
Lynn withdrew his hand. "After all, he is the strongest hero."
"The strongest..."
Kraft touched the wooden pendant on his chest and exhaled a puff of white breath. "May the goddess bestow upon him the praise he deserves."
"Oh, right, I forgot to ask your surname?"
Lynn asked the question knowing the answer already.
Kraft.
Kraft replied, "And you?"
"Lynn".
"Mr. Kraft, are you also here to see the statue?" Lynn asked.
"It's on the way."
Claf brushed the snow off his clothes. "I originally came with a kid who has the title of 'Level 1 Mage,' but we got separated here because we took different routes."
"...But it's you."
Kraft looked Lynn up and down, his gaze lingering on the twin swords at Lynn's waist. "You have a nice scent."
"A pleasant smell? Or is it the smell of sweat?"
Lynn hadn't showered for days, and her sweat was sticking to her body.
"Ha, you have a really interesting way of talking."
Kraft grinned. "Since we've run into each other, how about we grab a drink?"
He pointed to a tavern by the square and said, "I was just worried about having no one to talk to. It's so cold here that my tongue is about to freeze."
"It's my treat."
Lynn laughed and thought to himself that he hadn't expected this guy to be a renegade monk like Haita.
"Very good."
Kraft didn't mince words, "I'm out of money."
So the two of them went together and pushed open the heavy wooden door of the tavern.
A wave of heat mixed with the noise of people hit me.
The tavern was filled with adventurers and soldiers, and the fire in the fireplace was burning brightly.
Lynn and Kraft found a corner to sit down and ordered two cups of hot ale and a plate of roast meat.
"You mean, you crossed the southern forest alone?"
Kraft took a big gulp of wine, exhaling a puff of hot air. "You've got guts. That forest hasn't been peaceful lately; I heard there's a powerful demon roaming around."
"Luckily, it's solved."
Lynn tore off a piece of roasted meat.
Kraft paused, "Resolved?"
"Um."
"That's interesting."
Kraft laughed. "No wonder I felt your aura was so solid. It seems your physical condition is quite good."
Just then, the tavern door was kicked open.
A hunter covered in blood stumbled in.
"Help! Help me!"
The hunter collapsed in front of the counter, roaring, "A lion boar! A giant lion boar! Near the mine in the north of the city! My companions... were all killed by it..."
The tavern fell silent instantly.
Giant lion-pig.
A ferocious monster unique to the northern plateau, it is huge, thick-skinned, and can easily smash through city walls when it goes berserk.
"That beast again."
The bartender wiped the glasses, frowning. "This is the third one this week. The guild's bounty has been up for three days, but no one dares to accept it."
In the corner, Kraft stuffed the last piece of meat into his mouth and patted the grease off his hands.
"Looks like my post-meal exercise plan is sorted out."
He looked at Lynn, "So? Interested in lending a hand? I happen to be short of travel expenses."
Lynn put down his wine glass.
Having just gained 15% of my abilities, I just need a target to practice on.
"Walk."
……
North of the city, abandoned mine shafts.
The snowstorm was even worse than in the city, and visibility was less than ten meters.
The ground was covered with messy hoof prints and dark red bloodstains.
Roar--
A deafening roar came from the depths of the snowstorm.
Immediately afterwards, the ground began to shake.
A colossal beast, as tall as a two-story building, burst forth from the snow.
It has the mane and claws of a lion, but the tusks and massive body of a wild boar.
"Is this a lion boar?"
Lynn stood on a boulder, watching the monster charging towards him.
It's bigger than I imagined.
"Stop daydreaming, Lynn!"
Kraft offered a reminder.
He carried no weapon; for this monk, his body was the strongest weapon.
The lion-boar lowered its head, its huge tusks like two spears, and stabbed fiercely at Kraft.
Kraft steadied himself, then swiftly reached out with both hands and precisely grabbed the two fangs.
boom!
The enormous impact propelled him dozens of meters across the snow, carving out two deep furrows.
But he stopped quickly.
He single-handedly managed to subdue the rampaging beast.
"Now's the time!"
Clough shouted.
Without needing to be reminded, Lynn's figure had already disappeared on the boulder.
He glided past the ground like a swift.
The two swords were drawn.
Clang!
The cold light drew a perfect cross in the air.
puff.
The sound of a sharp blade cutting into flesh was masked by the wind.
The lion-boar let out a painful howl and frantically shook its head, trying to fling Kraft away.
"Get down!"
Kraft's arm muscles bulged, and using the force of the lion-boar's head shake, he twisted and delivered a powerful knee strike to the lion-boar's jaw.
Click.
The sound of bone cracking was clearly audible.
The enormous beast collapsed with a crash, stirring up a cloud of snow dust.
Lynn landed lightly on a tree branch not far away, flicking the blood off the blade.
"Good teamwork."
Kraft rubbed his wrist, walked over to the lion-boar's carcass, and kicked it. "This pelt can fetch a good price."
"Also, that last slash was very fast."
Kraft paused, a nostalgic look on his face, "It reminds me of my younger self."
"You used to use a sword too?"
Lynn jumped down from the branch, recalling the hero statue that her stubborn mother-in-law had made Frilian clean.
The Kraft in the statue is a swordsman with a sword at his side.
"Um."
Kraft did not deny it.
"Lynn, where are you going next?"
"Head north, the target town is Tour."
Lynn answered.
"Tur..."
Kraft pondered for a moment, "Perfect timing, I'm going through that area too. There are a lot of monsters around here, it's too boring to travel alone. How about we team up?"
"I couldn't ask for more," Lynn said.
"Then it's settled, haha."
Kraft laughed loudly, hoisted the lion-boar onto his shoulder, and said, "Let's go back and collect the bounty."
The two walked side by side in the wind and snow.
