Chapter 272 Play with fire

Chapter 272 Play with fire

Sam followed Uriel's movements from the top of the Celes tower with mixed feelings. He tried to be as helpful as possible, but the many buildings covered his line of sight which prevented him from spotting at least half of the enemies, but it wasn't until the Slenderman showed up that he felt completely useless.

His friend didn't show even the intent to fight the tall cryptid and remained frozen in front of it which got Sam into a panicked state that ended once Uriel started fighting back but the rollercoaster of emotions was far from over.

"What the actual fuck!? Why is he doing that?" Sam gasped.

"What is he doing?" Luna asked worryingly over the phone, though her tone of voice remained monotonous.

"He's setting the lost city on fire!" Enjoy new adventures from My Virtual Library Empire

Uriel ran across the street laughing maniacally with a broken lantern on his hand as flames enveloped the nearby buildings. Buying flammable items from his souvenir shop came at a great monetary cost, but it was clearly worth it as the Slenderman was now trapped inside a wide circle of flames, cowering desperately inside one of the buildings to remain in the shadows.

"How do you like that, you bastard!?" Uriel shouted as he kept throwing bottles of 1k credits alcohol at the fire. Uriel figured that, just like serial killers, the Slenderman wouldn't enjoy being thrown into the light and the easiest and quickest way to provide a powerful source of light was to set everything on fire.

"So this is it? You play mind games and then vanish when your true face gets revealed? I won't let you go that easy." Uriel's merciless eyes shimmered in blue for a brief second as he beheaded the helpless cryptid, without a care for the flames that were now licking his back.

Now that the fight was over the only thing left to do was to return to the city, but as convenient as the flames were for his fight, they were also his biggest problem now. The huge city fire he lit up was like a beacon to all sorts of creatures, and while they wouldn't cross the fire, he needed to do it if he wanted to reunite with the jaguar.

This put him in quite a pinch as he still wanted to avoid using Water warlock's blessing as much as possible and it meant that he would most likely suffer a great deal of pain and also take a long time to recover.

"Maybe an orichalcum mask is not such a bad idea." He sighed as he grabbed Jon's fedora that was hanging from his backpack and put it on to keep his head from burning while he kept poking at the cryptid's corpse to find the flux orb.

Next, he darted out of the fire using Dash which helped him receive less damage, but also caused him to experience it at a much slower pace making his short trip through the flames seem like half a minute which almost made him regret using his skill.

Emma was still unconscious on the ground and the Jaguar remained by her side. Uriel looked at her with a mix of curiosity and hope, thinking that she may be related to him or that she may know something about his family.

"Mom?" She asked as she slowly opened her eyes trying to make sense of her circumstances.

"Try again." Uriel said as he punched her in the face, knocking her out again. There were many questions he needed to ask her, but that wasn't the time nor the place and carrying her while unconscious was much easier than explaining matters to her on the way back.
