Chapter 222 Extra 1
Chapter 222 Extra 1
A little girl played silently with a doll in a spacious room lit only by a fireplace. The room was richly furnished and there were several shelves filled with expensive looking books and two green couches facing the fire hinted that the place was meant as a reading room.
Rain poured outside violently hitting the glass panes of the window, encompassed from time to time by a distant thunder. It was just another lonely evening for a seven years old Winona, until two men entered the room.
"Grampa!" Winona's face lit up immediately.
"Dear Winnie! What are you doing here?" Walter smiled squinting his eyes and crouching to hold her granddaughter in his arms.
The man who followed him hung his wet coat, along with his fedora hat on the perch and sat on the couch.
"Father said it was time for homework, but I'm tired so I sneaked here to play. Will you tell on me?" The girl said pulling her 'puppy eyes' that would never fail to melt her grampa's heart.
"Well, I won't tell, but in return you'll have to keep anything you hear today a secret." Walter winked at the little girl who agreed on the spot and continued playing with her doll.
"Are you sure it's ok for me to stay here? I don't want to impose."@@@@
"Nonsense, my friend, You can stay here all you want until you get better"
"How does one get better from losing wife and child at the same time?" Jon looked at the old man with bloodshot eyes, but his voice was calm.
"You never recover from that, you only learn to live with that."
Ever since they met, Jon would come visit Winona at every chance he got. He would never see his son again, he would never speak to his wife again, but he watched that little girl grow. He accompanied her into her extra curricular activities, birthdays and some holidays. He became the always cheerful uncle that could never be taken seriously that would never miss any of her milestones.
On the other hand, she filled the void in the heart of a grieving man and even developed a bit of a crush on him. For an instant, the figure of Uriel handing her a crucifix overlapped with the memory of Jon and she slowly opened her eyes.

"Good morning sunshine." Uriel said jokingly, he was by the side of the bed peeling an apple with his Swiss army knife.
"What is this place?" She asked, still numb after being in an induced comma for so many days.
"This is what they call a hospital, you know, the place for injured and sick people." He said as he skillfully sliced the apple and put them on a plate.
Medusa's hand poked the control of the hospital bed to lift her position and make speaking with Uriel more comfortable. She had the strangest dream, but couldn't remember what it was about for the life of her.
Her own father asked Ethan to kill her, but that wasn't anything new. She expected something like that to happen as soon as he found out she wasn't planning on marrying Sam and she had only herself to blame for being careless. Still, she was in good company and couldn't be happier.
"Thanks for coming by and for bringing me fruit." Medusa said blushingly as she reached for the dish, but Uriel swiftly took it away.
"What!? This is mine." He said as he started munching on the fruit in front of her with complete disregard for her feelings. "This things are damn expensive."
"Didn't you bring that for me? I'm in a hospital, recovering from severe injuries, it's only natural you bring me some fruit."
"I'm at a hospital too, if you want apples you can buy your own," A faint smile appeared on Uriel's face. "with the huge payout from our new orichalcum vein."
