Chapter 214 Treasure trove
Chapter 214 Treasure trove
Medusa had been paying close attention to Uriel long before he started acting in a strange way and the reason for that was beyond obvious. She was the heir to the Works family and had been a prominent figure her whole life, but that didn't change the fact that she was also a girl.
Whenever she acted as a member of the Works family she was overbearing, arrogant even, but when she was close to Uriel she was just a regular shy girl. She never had friends before meeting him, let alone a boyfriend, but she was always the target of male attention either for her social standing or for her eye catching figure.
Perhaps because of that, she was swept off her feet when Uriel treated her with kindness and respect.
She was absolutely certain he was the love of her life and nothing could change her mind. she was as stubborn as she was determined but on that day she hesitated for the first time.
She saw how the usually cool and serene Uriel turned into a mess of emotions, but that was nothing compared to his reaction when he laid eyes upon the female statue on the pond.
She always thought he didn't respond to her flirting because he was shy, something she didn't mind at all. Then, she noticed how cold Uriel grew towards everyone, not just her, and she started thinking that maybe, he was either incapable of falling in love or he showed it in a different way but, no.
Just watching how he looked at the statue she came to the realization that none of that was the truth. He was in love, just not with her.
The water reached Uriel's waist and his neck remained craned up all the way until he reached the sculpture of the unknown woman, then he extended his arm and whispered something. Tears trickled down his cheeks, though a loving smile appeared on his face.
"Dearest one."
When the stone mechanism was activated, everyone retreated a few steps in anticipation of the trap that was set off by Uriel. Everyone but Medusa who rushed in and held on tightly to Uriel's back. Even if he didn't love her, even if he was incapable of loving her, she couldn't fathom her life without him anymore. Then, a platform arose from bellow the water and a stone vault was revealed.
Uriel himself didn't know if it was the sight of the treasures in front of him or the warm soft feeling of Medusa pressing her chest tightly on his back what snapped him out of his reverie, but he was back to normal.
"Does that mean you agree?" Nika lifted a brow with distrust.
"She's technically my boss now, even if I didn't I can't go against her wishes."
Now that it was decided that Uriel's party would take the first claim to the treasure, Uriel grabbed every artifact with the intention of testing if there was something he could store inside his museum under the guise of an attempt to categorize it.
Jon watched as Uriel piled the different artifacts while jotting down all the information he could while, at the same time, making an inventory of every single artifact. He nodded with a pleased expression from time to time as Uriel explained the possible uses and cultural nuances of the different artifacts.
Uriel went through all the items trying to hide an unsightly grin as he handled the valuable orichalcum objects until he took out the last item from the vault.
It was an old looking book, with tattered pages and unintelligible scriptures written on it. It was nothing out of the ordinary, but Uriel knew its value as soon as he realized he would be able to store it inside his museum.
"I'll take this." He said with a smirk.
[System notice] Book of the dead acquired.
Th sinister name of the book sent shivers down Uriel's spine, though that feeling was soon countered by the next message.
