Chapter 190 Devoured
Chapter 190 Devoured
The second wave of cryptids forebode a bitter ending for the whole party. Even with a heavenly rank hunter like Nika, defeating an entity level cryptid was no easy feat and even if it was weak to wood like its minions, nothing assured them a win.
Instinctively, everyone in their party hurdled together back to back and started their retreat, everyone but Nika and Uriel that is. While Nika felt confident in her ability to jump between shadows and had no issues getting swarmed by weak enemies Uriel was desperately trying to find anything made of wood nearby to try and cover their retreat.
His Dash skill should be enough to outrun the enemies and Water warlock's blessing gave him enough confidence to survive even against the entity in front of them, but everything pointed towards the inevitable death of at least some of his companions.@@@@
Uriel took a glance at them, they were tired, covered in small wounds and their wooden stakes were about to break. What use was a regeneration ability when he could do nothing to save his friends, what was the point of exploring the dungeon if he ended up alone in the world like before meeting them.
"I forgot to mention this before, but that cryptid was at the cathedral that day and when I looked it in the eye I lost time." Sam told Uriel at a distance.
"That's it! The cathedral! go there, now!" Uriel shouted and everyone ran as the cryptids were getting closer.
Janett's and Luna's condition was awful and they did their best to keep the pace, but even though their wounds weren't severe, they hindered their movement. Noticing this, Medusa went back, then picked Luna in a princess carry and threw Janett over her back like a sack of potatoes but it wasn't enough.
The enemies were far too many for Nika and Uriel to hold them off by themselves and the presence of the entity level cryptid made things more difficult. If that cryptid had the same absurd regeneration ability the smaller vampires had, defeating it would be near impossible.
It was time to fight.
Uriel closed his eyes and tried to focus on his mystical sense. At first, he was able to sense many weak cryptids, but then a bone chilling sensation stunned him. Contrary to his expectations, it didn't come from the Alamo, but from the cathedral. Stay connected with My Virtual Library Empire
"The statues!" Uriel gasped. Albeit unknowingly, he might have sent his friends to a certain death. But that was no use either, Nika was the only one nearby and the only one he could help right now. The situation was bad, but now he was free to fight however he wanted. He closed his eyes again, only this time he entered his museum and grabbed the jaguar figurine.
Then he activated his newly acquired tier 2 battery which was among the supplies sent by Samuel song. "Fetch Nika!"
At Uriel's command, the jaguar spirit rushed amidst the blinding dust and disappeared with a roar. Although the jaguar spirit was capable of eating through Uriel's flux energy too fast for his liking, by using a battery pack the effect was reduced.
"What the fuck!" was heard at a distance signalling that Nika had been found and was healthy, at least enough to curse like she always did. But there was no time for relief as Uriel saw a couple of dark figures appearing nearby.
Because of the dust he had just a second to react but that was enough to dodge the first and kick the other in the chest. The cracked ribcage sounded like a dry leaf being stepped on, but the cryptid regenerated instantly and attempted to bite his leg. Uriel quickly took a step backwards, only to be tackled from the side as another vampire made its appearance.
He rolled on the ground and somehow managed to stand back up before the next one came, but even after kicking them or punching them they would heal immediately. Soon, he was surrounded by four vampires who crawled at him at every chance. If it wasn't for the fact that his blood dripped on the street and two of them crouched to lick it, he might have been torn to shreds already.
Uriel didn't know what to do and thinking was difficult while dodging, the only thing he could do was to give up. That's precisely why he decided to stop dodging and instead dropped on the ground and let the vampires bite him to their heart's content.
