Chapter 186 Outpost Part 2

Chapter 186 Outpost Part 2

The rest of the cryptids were easily dealt with once everyone gathered near the watchtower and the rangers proceeded to recover the flux orbs that were lying in the surroundings. Although the law stated that hunters would be entitled to the flux orbs they killed, that wasn't applicable in this situation given that if it wasn't for the rangers the whole caravan would have been in danger.

Jon hurried inside the watchtower to prevent drawing any more cryptids with his immense energy signature while the rest of the caravan remained outside basking in the sun. Even something as insignificant as that was a luxury for those who lived within the tall city walls.

Uriel scanned his surroundings and noticed the presence of someone he didn't expect among the soldiers that came along.

"Shaker?"

"You're that little guy!" Shaker replied with a warm smile. He seemed a lot nicer than the last time they met. "I thought you wouldn't last this long."

"It hasn't been a stroll in the park, but I'm fine."

"Hey Shaker, how's it going?" Medusa asked the huge soldier with a friendly tone of voice.

"Great, actually. I'm a lieutenant now, just like Miss Dragonfang."

"And your wife?" Although things used to be tense between them, after their incursion Medusa kept in touch with him and she found out he was married and had two kids. Because of that, she was now on good terms with him and he became a lot softer around her.

Now that the three factions were reunited outside city walls it was of the utmost importance to keep things cordial, especially considering that if a fight broke out it wouldn't be good for any of them.

Thankfully, the horde of beasts that pursued them served as a reminder that while inside the city they belonged opposing interests and grudges to hold, out in the wilderness they were all 'team humanity' and their very survival was on the line.

"Uri, you made it! I was so worried about you!" Tina ran towards him so fast it seemed like she wanted to pounce on him, but she was greeted with the cold glare of Medusa.

Uriel was forced to share a room with Janett and Nika because the watchtower wasn't spacious enough to accommodate so many people, something he deeply lamented. Janett was startled after every gunshot and Nika was so drunk she snored loudly while scratching her belly.

In spite of what it seemed, It was actually the calm before the storm because the closer they got to the lost city, the stronger the cryptids would get.

The next morning they were woken up by the sound of heavy artillery and flak cannons being fired and Uriel hurried outside to confirm it was nothing short of a warzone. The reason for this was a small vehicle heading towards the watchtower at high speed, followed by a massive horde of beast rank cryptids.

The engine roared as Sam throttled up to the max speed the bike could endure, in fact, there was already some smoke coming out of it. Right behind him on the passenger seat there was a small girl, seemingly a child, clinging to his waist.

"My baby!" Nika cried, though Uriel couldn't tell if she referred to Luna or the bike Sam borrowed.

Uriel didn't waste any time and took out his revolver and took a stance. He knew his aim wasn't that reliable, but he felt more confident given the amount of enemies that were drawing closer with each second.

He started gunning them down with his magnum and soon Nika joined in with a handgun, then a booming sound next to them announced the presence of Charlie.

"That's a big gun you got there kid!" Charlie joked.

"Leave him alone, he's all mine!" Nika scolded and then Medusa butted in.

"Keep firing you moron! They're going to get him!"

Although it was, indeed, a difficult situation Sam turned out to be a much better driver than Nika. He swiftly balanced the weight of the bike and took last second turns to confuse the cryptids, he also made the most of the small slopes he found and jumped in the air at every occasion he could and soon, the bike drifted and both Sam and Luna jumped out.

"You guys made it!" Uriel smiled at Sam with awe. He was nothing like the cowardly student he met during their first incursion, or so he thought.

"I almost shit my pants like three times on the way here, all because of this moron who couldn't be bothered to check her phone!" Sam dropped the helmet and angrily stormed inside the watchtower.
