Chapter 157 Rocky road Part 2
Chapter 157 Rocky road Part 2
It was only after managing to climb out of the pit that Uriel realized he missed something important. He didn't have a rope to help the others escape from the pit and, more importantly, the pickup truck was nowhere to be seen which meant they didn't have any means to going back to the city either.
"At least there's no bugs nearby." Uriel tried to comfort himself as the way back threatened to be long and difficult. A group of hunters going back on foot from an intermediate hunting zone wasn't anywhere near an ideal scenario by itself, but going back alone and under the continued rain only made things more difficult and dangerous. "If only I had something to pull them out... the souvenir shop!"
Uriel closed his eyes and entered his museum which immediately made him feel better. He really wanted to go check on the Comanche war bonnet that should be in the ancient era exhibit, but there wasn't any time for that at the moment. Although the place was dry and seemed comfortable, it was only his ethereal presence the one inside of his trait and his body remained under the merciless rain.
Uriel headed directly to the souvenir shop in the pre apocalyptic era exhibition and mindlessly grabbed the catalog and turned the pages.
"Home section, cookware, garden..." Uriel muttered as he looked up for the right section on the catalog. "Camping!"
There were several tents, gear, impermeable clothes and, given the amount of products, it took him a long while to find a rope similar to the one they previously had. He placed a few coins on the counter while focusing on the exact model of rope he wanted and it appeared immediately.
"So convenient..." He said as he took the rope out of his trait and proceeded to tie it to the same tree Rocky used for the same purpose before. He then let the rope fall on to the pit and the members started climbing up one by one.
"Thank you so much!" Amy, the last one to climb up, said as soon as she composed herself. She then proceeded to pull the rope to retrieve their backpacks that were tied to the end of the rope.
"Bloobloo!" The driver cried and fell to his knees in front of where his vehicle should have been. "Damn you Rocky, I'll make you pay for this!"
Both ascended flanked the creature from the sides, taking advantage of the fact that it could only attack to the front, while the evolved stood by in case someone fell. The crab attempted to turn by rapidly moving its incredibly long legs, but the ascended hunters were even faster and adjusted their position constantly.
Although their hits were powerful enough to bring down a regular beast rank cryptid in a single blow, the mud crab not only possessed a thick exoskeleton, it was also a monster rank cryptid.
The battle was fierce and a single mistake could mean the end of the ascended hunters that faced the creature. It took all of their combined efforts to take down the immense cryptid after a long and tiresome battle.
Both Amy and Connor were left kneeling on the ground exhausted. They were soaking wet to the bones and their steel weapons were bent in an awkward angle which made them useless, but the cryptid was dead.
On the way back they followed the tracks left by the stolen pickup truck thinking that, if Rocky already passed that place, it should be more or less safe for them now. But nightfall didn't wait for anyone and, soon enough, the group was going to be out in the open in the middle of hunter's lane.
"So, what does the hunting manual say about camping in the wilderness?" Uriel asked Amy intrigued by the contents of the book she always carried. She took out the book like usual, but it was wet and muddy and all the pages were stuck together in one lump of paper.
"It says we should avoid it at all costs." Amy replied after giving up on trying to read the manual. She then threw it as far as she could and sighed. "The manual has been helpful and has saved our lives more times than I can count, but at the end of the day it's just a book."
"Hey Sage, there's something I wanted to ask you. You claim that skinwalkers are weak to silver, but where did you learn that?" Connor asked with curiosity.
"I read that in a book." Uriel replied at the same time the last beams of daylight hit his face.
