Chapter 105 : Power of the pack Part 2
As the black dogs drew closer Medusa took a leap forward and activated her trait which paralyzed a dog on the spot. The poor cryptid was so scared it couldn't move from its spot and was dealt a swift death by the huntress who then kept jumping and dashing all over the place as if she wanted to prevent her companions from fighting at all.
Sam kept himself busy too and, much to Uriel's surprise, he was actually quite powerful. His trait enhanced his sight to the point where dodging by a hair's breadth was an easy feat. Many dogs attempted to bite at him, some even thought they got him, but Sam turned out to be a dodging prodigy.
Uriel did kill a couple black dogs, though he wasn't actively seeking for them. He only attacked in self defense as he was too busy trying to understand the fighting prowess of his companions.
In the meantime, Luna kept herself busy dissecting the corpses of the fallen cryptids. This time, instead of scolding her, they allowed her to indulge on her obsession as she was also extracting the flux orbs from their corpses. Luna's eyes glinted in burning passion and she let out all of her desires into cutting flesh and bone while laughing softly but maniacally.
The look of this tiny person with a scalpel on hand acting like that managed not only to creep out her companions, but even the cryptids were too scared to go anywhere near her and didn't even attempt to attack her.
"Is this Luna's trait?' Uriel asked himself. Though even if it was something out of the usual, it wasn't related to a trait. It was just the natural reaction of a beast watching a creature doing something they couldn't understand.
The black dogs would rather get killed by Medusa than being subjected to whatever it was Luna was doing. Death was a simple concept even animals could grasp, but Luna's actions didn't make sense to any of them.
The hunting party ended up being surrounded on all sides by enemies, but it would take a lot more than that to even make them flinch. The black dog's numbers were decreasing at a rapid pace and the fight was heavily tilted towards the hunters. By the looks of it, it would be a quick battle and the spoils would be great.
Over six wolves had already been defeated and most of the remaining ones were wounded, yet none of them retreated. It was as though they were waiting for something to happen, something that could turn the tides on their favor.
"Now!" Uriel shouted as he jumped forward with his revolver in hand. He could have taken the shot from his previous position as his target wasn't that far, but he didn't want to miss the shot and be embarrassed in front of everyone.
The coordinated attack was a success and now there was a single enemy.
"There's one missing!" Sam shouted in fright as he scanned his surroundings. There were six dogs, each of them killed one at roughly the same time which should have left two black dogs still standing, and yet... "I can't see it anywhere!"
Everyone retreated until they were back to back again. Medusa took the chance to activate her trait trying to scare the remaining black dog, but it didn't work.
"This can't be possible, a beast rank cryptid shouldn't be able to withstand my petrifying glare!"
"Keep it together! We're still fine and there's only one left!" Uriel tried to lift everyone's morale thinking the missing dog had fled.
As if on queue, the black dog in front of the party barked. It was the first time they heard a bark like that and they were taken aback by the powerful sound that hurt their eardrums. Everyone but Uriel covered their ears. His regeneration prevented him from suffering any damage from the ominous bark and also, he was more accustomed to pain than his companions.
Then, something strange happened. Uriel could feel the presence of Nika creeping out of his shadow, it was the same disturbing feeling he was already used to, and he turned towards his shadow with the intention to scold her.
"What are you doing here Nika, I told you to stay in the city!" Much to Uriel's shock, it wasn't Nika the one coming out from his shadow but the missing black dog itself. "Watch out!" Uriel shouted trying to warn his companions, but no one could hear him as they were still recovering from the deafening bark.
