Chapter 30 The Dwarf Shock
Chapter 30 The Dwarf Shock
Lorne used tongs to remove the crucible and poured the golden molten metal into the mold. White smoke rose, and a faint metallic smell filled the air.
After it cooled down, he tapped out the metal ingot. It was golden in color and had a soft luster on its surface, like amber that had been soaked in sunlight.
"It looks really beautiful," Amber couldn't help but exclaim.
As expected of a strong individual from a junior college, their control of the timing and intensity is absolutely perfect.
Lorne sighed.
He currently has no basic knowledge of alchemy, knows nothing about magic, can rely on a balance scale for proportions, but can only rely on intuition to control the heat. If he were to do it himself, he might have to do it several more times.
"Could you please check my magic penetration rate, senior?"
Amber returned a bright smile to her junior. Dwarves were straightforward and didn't have many ulterior motives. She was usually annoyed by the complicated etiquette of her human classmates in the academy, so she was quite impressed with Lorne's directness.
"Okay, let's test it."
She turned and walked towards the testing station, her steps neither fast nor slow.
But to be honest, she had no hope for Lorne.
After all, she had overheard the students talking at the entrance. This junior named Lorne had just enrolled and hadn't even taken an alchemy class yet; he was probably just here to have some fun.
Even with so many professional alchemists in the Alchemy Academy, so many top students in the Silver Academy, and even the alchemy masters of the dwarves, they couldn't find the correct formula. How could a freshman possibly concoct it?
Next to the testing station, several students who had just finished were resting, staring at their failed alchemy creations and racking their brains.
They all glanced at Lorne when they saw him come over.
"Junior, you've already figured it out so quickly? Let me see, copper and white copper, isn't that just brass? We've tried it, and the magic conductivity is less than forty percent."
"I tried this combination before, but it broke before I could even test it."
"They're freshmen, they always have to pay some tuition fees," someone muttered nearby.
Meow Leon was squatting next to the testing station, his legs not tightly clenched, his round pupils staring intently at the testing instrument, his ears standing straight up.
It's tense.
Twenty credits.
Senior Carol had also joined in at some point, glancing at Lorne, then at the brass ingot, a slight smile playing on his lips:
"Junior, don't be nervous. It's your first time. Failure is the mother of success."
Meow Leon glared at him disdainfully:
"Little zei, say that again?"
Carol ignored the silly cat that didn't know how to respect its senior and shook her head:
"After all, Junior Lorne has just entered the university. Don't have too high expectations for him. That would be a waste of his talent. Alchemy is something that can't be rushed."
Although Lorne's talent for elemental resonance is impressive, it at most only means that he has a special advantage in cultivating elemental magic.
Alchemy is not the same as elemental magic.
This thing requires a lot of effort and time to study, and even a substantial fortune. Most mages spend most of their lives just cultivating elemental magic, so they don't have time for this.
Not to mention that Lorne is just a freshman who has just come into contact with magic and probably hasn't even been exposed to the basic theory of elements. He's like a toddler who has just started school. How can you expect him to understand linear algebra?
Arabian Nights.
Senior Amber placed the brass on the testing platform, adjusted its position, and then raised her hand to activate the testing rune.
The runes lit up, and rings of pale yellow light emanated from the surface of the metal ingot.
This signifies that the magic conductivity rate has reached 20%. Each color change represents a 20% increase in the magic conductivity rate.
Several older students raised their eyebrows in surprise and looked at Lorne incredulously.
It's actually possible to reach 20%?
For a freshman with no alchemy background, this is already an incredible achievement.
The light began to change.
Pale yellow turns orange-yellow, and orange-yellow turns orange-red.
60%?!
No one spoke again, and several people's expressions changed drastically.
This result surpassed that of most of them. Many of those present were third-year students from the Fire or Earth Academy, specializing in forging and refining, and their magical skills had even reached the level of mid-level mages, though they had not yet obtained their degrees.
They have been immersed in the field of alchemy for a long time and are among the best of their generation, yet this is still the level they have reached.
But now? How is that possible?
How could a freshman have such profound magical skills?
However, amidst the increasingly distorted expressions on everyone's faces, the color continued to change!
The orange-red color deepened, turning into a dark red, and finally stabilized in a rich, intense glow that was somewhere between red and gold.
"This...this..."
Everyone's faces were stunned, almost wondering if they were dreaming.
"92% magic penetration rate!" Meow Leon shouted the result, his cat face beaming with a wide smile.
It's only two points worse than pure gold, which is negligible.
An eerie silence fell over the room as people instinctively glanced at the amber and the testing station, wondering if something was wrong with the device.
"I'll test it again." Amber switched to a different testing station and reactivated the runes.
The light shone again, its color gradually changing, eventually settling steadily within the same color range.
This time, no one dared to question it anymore, and they couldn't even find the words to express their feelings.
Their faces were all contorted with rage as they scrutinized Lorne repeatedly, some even suspecting that he might be some old monster disguised as a freshman to play tricks on them, showing no martial ethics.
Carol was also incredibly shocked, then looked at Lorne with shining eyes, as if she were looking at a rare treasure.
Amber's mouth agape, her freckled face filled with surprise, glanced back and forth between Brass and Lorne several times before finally managing to squeeze out a sentence:
"How did you do that?"
Before Lorne could answer, a dwarf apprentice beside him had already run into the inner chamber, shouting wildly:
"Special envoy! Old Hammer! Someone has measured the magic penetration rate at 92!"
A loud voice came from inside:
"What? Say it again?"
"Ninety-two! Copper and cupronickel!"
A chair fell to the ground with a thud, followed by a series of rapid, short footsteps, like several balls bouncing on the ground.
Two almost identical dwarves appeared in front of the testing table almost simultaneously, their four eyes fixed on the brass ingot as if they were looking at a saintly woman of breathtaking beauty.
Of course, they probably think this thing is more beautiful now.
"What about the costs?" Old Iron Hammer, the workshop owner, pressed.
Lorne didn't actually know the prices of copper and cupronickel, so he could only give a rough estimate of the ratio and process: "It's roughly a 40 to 60 ratio. You can calculate it yourselves."
An exaggerated expression appeared on both honest and kind faces at the same time.
Red metals are rare magical materials, while copper and white copper are not exactly common, but they are close enough.
His fairy mother became very wealthy.
"Airships! Arrange airships for me; I need to report to the Forge Sanctuary!"
The two dwarves excitedly turned and rushed out.
"Hey hey hey don't forget our credits!" Meow Leon shouted from behind.
