It was a joke, but it made Violet blush.
"We're a good match, what? We're just...we're just..."
"What do you mean?"
Saint Karina asked the question she already knew the answer to.
"N-nothing. You must have misheard me."
She wanted to say that nothing of the sort happened, but Violet couldn't bring herself to lie.
In her heart, she didn't entirely consider Saint Karina a friend.
At least, her feelings for Santa Karina were completely different from her feelings for Phoebe.
"I just wanted to ask, are we going back soon? We've only been out for a short while."
Seeing Saint Karina's enigmatic smile, as if she saw through her thoughts but deliberately didn't expose her, Violet quickly changed the subject. She was trying to bring back the word "talent" to justify her statement.
She didn't want to go back to the shop just like that. Saint Karina noticed Violet's thoughts, so she suggested:
"Why not go for a walk in the forest? Just treat it as a picnic and you'll be in a good mood. You don't need to do anything."
"Well, that's okay too."
Vera did not refuse.
So they were once again surrounded by rustling grass and bushes, and neither of them objected.
The two people, strolling leisurely through the forest with the mindset of a date, could immerse themselves in a certain ambiguous atmosphere even without speaking to each other.
They walked on like this until it got dark. Saint Karina had spatial magic and other magical abilities, so she started a fire and prepared a picnic for Vera.
"taste good."
After finishing the meal, Violet sincerely praised it.
"As long as you like it."
Saint Karina smiled slightly. She was responsible for putting out the fire afterward, washing the kitchen utensils and dishes, drying them with wind magic, and putting them back into her space.
"I'm so sorry, Lina, I always have to rely on you to take care of me. I can't even help you with something as small as this."
"What does it matter? We're friends. Even if you can't help me now, I'm sure you'll help me when I need you."
"Yes. I can promise, I will."
Vera nodded earnestly, like a chick pecking at rice. She thought that as long as it was Saint Karina's request, Vera would definitely do it if she asked.
"Then, shall we go back? It's getting late..."
Just as Vera said that the day would end like this, bringing the beautiful day to a close, suddenly, a woman's scream pierced the air.
"Ahhhhhhhhh!"
A high-pitched scream came from a distance of a little while away from the two of them.
It sounded like they had been attacked. The two looked at each other and initially judged that the distance was no more than a kilometer. If they rushed over now, they should still be able to make it in time.
The decibel level was quite high, indicating that the person had been extremely frightened.
"Lina, um..."
Violet wanted to get involved. Human life was at stake, and as someone who aspired to become a hero, she couldn't ignore it.
"Then go ahead."
Saint Karina did not stop it.
Perhaps she might meddle in other people's business depending on her mood. But since Vera wants to, she certainly won't stop her.
"Thank you."
Vera thanked him, grabbed the Hero's Sword, and rushed towards the direction of the sound. Saint Karina, of course, followed.
Perhaps this is one of Violet's admirable qualities. Her body spontaneously takes action when someone is in trouble.
She had already drawn her sword from its sheath; the blade was silvery-white and sharp, gleaming coldly in the moonlight.
She couldn't foresee what would happen, but she knew she couldn't stand idly by. It was that simple, pure of thought. She drew her weapon to protect herself and to save others in time.
then……
They saw a strange person. Or rather, is it appropriate to define him as human?
Upon closer inspection, they would clearly see that the woman had goat-like horns on her head.
If you know a little about the biographies in the mainland, you will know that there was once a powerful monster in history - the Sheep Demon. It had an anthropomorphic upper body, which was almost indistinguishable from a human, but it had horns on its head.
The lower body might have human legs or deer legs, but the feet would definitely be goat feet. They also have a tail, usually a long, thin tail like a scorpion's, with a green flame at the pointed end, making them look like monsters from hell. The eerie flames are captivating and terrifying.
In Cthulhu mythos, Shub Nicholas is known as the "Black Goat who bore millions of offspring." This goat-headed demon, Baphomet, is also infamous.
In biographical stories, sheep are portrayed as honest, but there is a distinction between sheep and goats.
Legend has it that goats can seduce people and lead them to commit crimes.
Therefore, the identity of the girl before them is quite clear. She is not human, but a demon, specifically a succubus who feeds on human sexual fluids.
Of course, there are differences among succubi. For example, some succubi only have sex with women and refuse men. Others are omnivorous.
In short, she shouldn't be here, in this forest. Lanos is a human city, not a demon city.
The fact that a demon is not staying in the Demon King's territory, but in this place, is suspicious enough.
And then there's her situation.
The succubus lay on the ground, bound by thorny plants. Then, just then, a slime appeared out of nowhere. As a result, most of her clothes were dissolved, leaving her lying on her side on the grass, unable to move, with only a few pieces of fabric remaining as tattered armor.
The incident must have happened recently, judging from the timing of the sound and the fact that the slime hasn't made any further progress.
The slime, still trying to dissolve the clothes and reach out to kiss the young girl, was pink. This stirred up Violet's memories.
She had heard Saint Karina's explanation of slimes. Slimes are usually asexual and come in blue, green, and colorless transparent colors, these being the most common. Of course, there are other colors, but only pink can definitively prove that this slime is female.
However, unlike the one with Violet, this slime does not yet have the ability to transform into human form. It should be a newborn slime, which has just been gestating in the forest.
I don’t know if it’s because Violet killed that slime girl not long ago, but the forest’s absorption of magic energy does indeed cause the same or similar monsters to be bred again, allowing them to hatch and be born anew.
"..."
Violet was clearly dumbfounded. She had assumed it was a human girl encountering a wild beast, a monster, or even human bandits trying to rob her of her money and virtue; she could imagine it all. But she hadn't anticipated... this situation, and that the girl wasn't even human...
If she were of another race, I could help her, but she happens to be a demon.
The farmer and the snake. Violet surely understands this principle.
Humans are spreading rumors about the evil of the demon race. Perhaps there are good demons among the race, but to humans, these demons are unlikely to be good.
